Nice cheap hotel very close to the VaticanPosted Nov 17, 2015
Hotel staff were very helpful. We requested 2 single beds and were put in a suite looking over the courtyard, two bedrooms and a bathroom. One room had a double bed and the other a double and a single. Only downsides to the room was that the TVs were rather outdated, and there was no shower, just a bath with a shower attachment, no wall fixing. No wifi in the room either. The hotel is large over 4 floors with a central courtyard with plenty of outside seating. We were brought complementary nibbles with our cocktails, including peanuts/crisps and some deep fried bitesized items. Only major downside to the Expedia holiday experience was the shared transfer to the hotel from the airport, the mini bus turned up an hour after the flight landed, even though they said the driver would be waiting outside the airport for us.

On The Door Step Of The VaticanPosted Nov 10, 2015
Pros: Location for Vatican City. Staff. Room.
Cons: Bathroom needs renovating.
Location: As above.
The hotel is wonderfully situated by Vatican City - in my top floor front facing window I could look left and see Saint Peter's which Looked amazing at dawn! I visited in November and although busy by day - Saint Peter's Square was very quiet by night and so the road outside the hotel is very quiet in the evening. Even in the day the double-windows provided a good buffer from any noise outside. My double room was very large but was very stark in its décor- almost monastic, which when looking out at Saint Peter's felt right! The room and bathroom were immaculately clean. The bathroom - all worked fine - was in need of renovation but was very clean. There is no tea/coffee in the room. I did not use the breakfast room but it looked very nice - as did all the public areas. Free wifi was very good. I walked to most attractions - some further away than others, but evenings in the piazza's having food etc was only a 15 min walk away. Staff were very helpful and arranged airport transport.

Great position, in need of renovation.Posted Sep 28, 2015
Pros: Welcome and position.
Cons: Basic comfort in room, new mattresses and working air conditioning
Location: On main road leading to St. Peters 2 minute walk to square and basillica. Ideal for beating the queues in the morning.
Warm welcome, position very good for early start in Vatican ideal for beating the queues. Room decor very tired, mattresses needed replacing. Air conditioning ineffective.

Excellent location, probably this bestPosted Sep 22, 2015
Pros: I liked most of the hotel, beautiful fresco look a likes, and paintings. the main dining area was nice but got let down by the breakfast area
Cons: Bed furniture was dirty, bathroom was small and old (crack in sink) all the carpets very dirty and worn. Not really a 4 star.
Probably the best location, not to noisy, just out town centre but on the doorstep of the vatican :) Great 18th century hotel , so don't expect a modern room and furniture, as I did. A bit disappointed, for the money I expected more, kettle in room, better breakfast (no hot food) unless you paid extra for room service. Generally ok :)

Gute Lage am vaticanPosted Aug 23, 2015
Pros: Lage zu vatican
Städtereisen in Rom. Man muss bei den Restaurants aufpassen. Man versucht ein ständig übers Ohr zu hauen.

good location-historical charmPosted Aug 22, 2015 on Hotels
Our room was a little too cramped and the air conditioning wasn't sufficient for the extreme hot weather conditions in Rome. However apart from these small problems, Hotel Columbus staff were helpful and friendly. The historical charm of the building added a sense of awe to this hotel experience. On my next return to Rome, I would stay at Hotel Columbus because of its fascinating charm and excellent location, close to major sites which are within easy walking distance from the hotel.

Marvellous historic building with decor to reflectPosted Aug 18, 2015
Great hotel, great and friendly staff who were always keen to assist. Great location for the Vatican (get up early and you won't queue to get in) Great place to return to after visiting Rome to relax in the terrace with a good selection of wine's and beers. Rooms were in keeping with the history of the building and location. If you want fast wifi and mod cons, go else where as you won't appreciate what this place is offering you.
