Not what we expected
Huge hassle, confusion, and expense to get to hotel from airport. No one from hotel available to greet us upon arrival. Person who checked us in was quite unfriendly...don't think she smiled once. Turned out to be a Bizarre stay...was it a farm, hotel, B&B, or residence? Mimo (the chef) was extremely wonderful, helpful, and kind...he was the only good thing about the stay. Got eaten alive by mosquitos. Just happy it was for one night. Should have slept at the airport, honestly.

Not near the airport
We ended up not staying here for the final night of our Italy trip because we were quoted 60 euro cab fare from theairport to the hotel and none of the taxi drivers knew where it was. So we canceled and walked to the Hilton.

nothing like the picture on the email the taxi driver had no idea where to go neither did any of the others cab drivers, it cost more to go to and from the venue than the cost of the hotel if you can call it that , it was not well sign posted , and down a beaten track , I would never recommend this venue to any one

Quiet, Country Retreat
I was surprised to find a country retreat type location so close to Rome airporto stayed the night prior to flying out. Dinner was prepared by the farmhouse resident a trained chef who whipped up a dish from farm fresh ingredients. the settings are rustic with upgraded amenities. Wifi is limited to close proximity to the office. Overall, would stay again, a nice quiet get away

Perfect for the airport
Not what you expect when you arrive - it's an agriturismo which I don't remember seeing in the advert and not what you expect inside - nice and very clean. No shower curtain is a pain but we stayed two nights in the two room apartment which was very comfortable. Breakfast is just ok. A bit disappointed we had to pay 10 euros a night for our little yorkie for the extra cleaning which took about 5 minutes on the first morning. If you are in to pets there are some very friendly cats, dogs, horses, rabbits and a goat. 40 minutes into Rome with one change for the Metro arriving at the Coliseum. Brilliant for the airport only 15 minutes away and would recommend it.

Beautiful country setting, very peaceful and quiet
We loved this place. Within walking distance to the castle and ancient ruins, and restaurants. The host was very accomodating, and since we were leaving very early in the morning, she gave us a care package for the breakfast we were going to miss. The only concern was she spoke no English, so we had a little trouble communicating, and the price of dinner I think was 30 euros per person which was out of our price range.

Friendly, family feel:)
Well I actually booked this place because I thought it was really close to the airport and we could save on transportation, but we actually had to spend more to get a taxi there. However, this place was so cute! Very friendly staff and an amazing dinner prepared for us by them! Since we had to leave very early in the morning they gave us a breakfast basket:) I would recommend that anyone who stays here have a car to get around. I is probably a great place for families that want to have space and let the kids run around.

Charming cottage/hotel in the woods
This place is in the middle of the woods and was not captured by my GPS navigator, which led me to a wrong location.Thankfully, a friendly pizza delivery guy allowed me to follow him in his car to the correct location. We drove through an unpaved road through the woods before reaching the hotel. The office to the reception desk was closed, so we were greeted by the chef and he gave me the keys to my room. The rooms were beautiful. The bathroom was spotless with a lovely large bathtub and all essential amenities. The nights were very comfortable, tranquil and quiet until the rooster wakes you up at six am! Outside of the hotel are various farm animals including a pig, several horses, cats, and a very friendly dog. My 4-year old son and I loved this place so much that we wanted to stay there a few days longer. The backyard also includes a play structure with a swing and see-saw which is perfect for toddlers. The best experience at the hotel were the dinners provided by chef. I have been to the best restaurants in California, and this chef definitely ranks with the best. The cons: Driving through this town is a horrible experience. I recommend leaving the car at the hotel, walking a mile to the train station, and taking the metro train to Rome. Unfortunately, the hotel is in the middle of the woods, so exiting into the streets is about a mile walk. Overall, if you love nature and the comfort of a great hotel in the middle of the woods, this is a great place!

Far from Rome city, VERY close to old Rome ruins
While we were a little worried driving up (dirt, pothole filled road, older buildings) the inside was clean and filled with antiques! Very well maintained inside, rooms very conveniently laid out. We stayed in the 3 bed, which was actually split into 2 rooms with a private bath.

A great & interesting find for family of 6
We are a family of 6 from Australia and were just finishing a month-long holiday in Italy and the UK. We had an overnight stop-off in Rome en route from London. We had already seen the sites of Rome early in the holiday and wanted somewhere to stay reasonably close to the airport (FCO) that could take us all. We can sleep all in one room but prefer to have separate. The approach to the hotel is down a potholed road past fields (with poppies and horses). The buildings looked very quiet as we approached and we initially wondered if we were at the right place. We were quickly welcomed however and were really pleased we chose this. The buildiings are very rural on the outside but our "suite" was enormous with 2 double bedrooms (one with the requested cot) and two more singles downstairs. Beds were very comfortable and the bath/shower good. We had a fabulous full evening meal with all the couses (antipasti with the best mozzarella all trip) and wine in pottery mugs. Breakfast was pastries, sandwiches, cereals, juice and coffee with very attentive service. It felt very rustic and very far from the sameness of big hotel chains (it wouldn't be a natural choice for business trips though). We would have loved to stay longer to explore the grounds and nearby archeological sites of Ostia Antica but needed to catch our plane. A good find and we felt we'd managed to have another taste of Italy before we left

decent place but its on country side
Stay was good and reception and staff is very nice. They helped me alot even if we had difficulty in communicating in English. But just a caution its not actually a hotel its like a country side resort/stay. So dont be surprised if you dont find some service you are expecting from Hotel in City side. The room I got was lavish and more like 4 star stay. It was very clean and had all the amenities i needed. But there was no wi fi connectivity.

Overnight stay close to the airport
We were looking for a place to stay outside of Rome and close to the airport, so that we would not be caught in traffic for our late morning flight. The room is inside to old city which feels very medieval. It is a very nice experience. We got there late in the afternoon, and I would recommend to arrive earlier and to go out to explore the site and the Roman ruins nearby. The room interior is very special and is not a luxury room by any means. There are mosquitoes in the area and the nets are a bit torn, so be prepared. The landlady and the breakfast are in another location, and you need a car or 10-15 mins walk to go there.

Handy for the airport & Ostia antiquities
The room was on its own in the castle area - very quaint and charming. We wanted to be by the airport because we were leaving the next day - the downside was that planes flew overhead every 3 minutes! Luckily, they stopped during the night. The place had character and the small town and nearby antiquites were worth seeing - and we wouldn't have seen them if we hadn't stayed at this hotel. All in all - I'd go back - its convenient when arriving/leaving Fuilminico airport but I would not choose it as a base for visiting Rome.

Amazingly good experience
Getting there and finding the place was a little difficult and we were not sure how the stay would work out. It was one our best stays. The rooms were clean and located in this amazing old castle grounds. There was a wonderful neighborhood grocer where we bought 1eu a bottle good wine! We ate at the mom and pop restaurant in the alley- the food was superb. It would have been nice if the rooms were better lit and the bathroom a little newer. On the whole the place was charming and Moana the lady at the reception was very helpful. The breakfast room is not very accessible.

Wonderful slice of real small-town Italy
This is a wonderful place, but it is very important that you know what to expect and you need to have a little pluck to make it work. This is NOT a traditional hotel, but a family inn with working farm, do not expect Marriot. There are several different buildings throughout Ostia, so there is not always someone at desk; plus very little English. One set of stone buildings is the "country" rooms at the farm, this is at the 18 Via Rainaldo address. The other buildings are in the medieval village in town next to the main castle. The office is at the farm so if you have rooms in the medieval village, go to the farm and someone will drive you to your rooms. We stayed at medieval village. Rooms are like mini-suites; all different. Ostia archeological site is 5-min walk around the corner, perfectly placed. Do have dinner at La Cucina, the hotel's restaurant. Owner/son will pick you up at room and drive you. When we dined there we were only couple, they opened the restaurant just for us and cooked us the best 7-course meal I've ever had. Many ingredients grown on farm + cook was sophisticated gourmet who know's what he is doing. Fixed-price meal was 30 euros/person, including bottle of wine. Family is very into personal travel experience rooted in local culture; they do lots of courses, breed rare local horses on farm, etc. Wonderful experience of REAL Italy. Do print out their webpage with map and cell # to show cab driver so they can find it!

A must for Rome visitors
It was an incredible experience staying in a small house in the Borge - the old walled city, with its 15th Century castle, all a short walk from the Roman ruins. Advice: First, the Borge location is just inside the gate. It's associated with the restaurant (not always open) just outside the gate and with the Country location about a mile away. Phone ahead so someone will meet you at the old city gate. Second, the ancient ruins are vast. Allow at least four hours, more if possible. The time flies. Bottom line: the folks at Rodrigo de Vivar are wonderful, the Borge is magic and the ruins are incredible.

Romantic Rome
Located in a small town on the outskirts of Rome, this rustic retreat offers a feel for history and romance. Rooms are available in a rural setting or within the city walls. Although comfortable, the rooms are authentic to their history. Do not expect a full service hotel. However, you may expect personal attention. The location is within walking distance of the archeological site of Ostia Antica and a short train ride to the center of Rome. Make sure that they are aware of your arrival time since there is not someone on duty 24 hours a day. Also in walking distance are good restaurants and taverns with warm hospitality and good food. This place is recommended only for the romantic!

Rustic with a great restaurant and wonderful manager
We were worried about finding the Inn because having been traveling for a while in Europe you learn to not take anything for granted. The metro line that takes you there from Rome was out of order and our cab driver got us lost on a rained out dirt road. We showed up exhausted, starving and irritated. The hotel manager (jacopo) was so sweet and accommodating that we cheered up pretty quickly. We walked into town (about 10 minutes from the Inn) to eat but everything was closed. One kind woman saw us walking around looking hungry and opened up her restaurant to serve us some delicious antipasto and lasagne. That night we went to the restaurant at the Inn (Kuchina) and our manager also was our waiter! The food and service were fantastic and we complemented the chef and waiter many many times in our broken Italian. We would both go back.

The property is well maintained and the people very nice but it is NOT near the airport and while they will "arrange a shuttle" for you, you must pay 30 euros each way to the airport making the hotel cost an additional 60 E. Our room, in the village was nice but very noisy (right on a busy corner) and if you left the windows open, the cats would come in. That said, if you want to see Roman Ruins showing how everyday people lived, this is extremely convenient to Ostica Antiqua.

Unfriendly, inaccessible, expensive Italians only
Located on a dirt road too far away from transportation or any other services, we were interrogated about our reservations and put in a suite underneath which a birthday party raged for four hours. Hotel is a mile from the nearest train and is surrounded by animal pens and cropland. Advertises itself upon arrival as agritourism. Only restaurant does not post prices until it is time to checkout and is very expensive. Our reservations were for two rooms and they claimed they were booked up. In the middle of the four hour party they offered to move us, so they did have other rooms. Very little English spoken, they are not used to non-Italian visitors. No air conditioning, too far from Rome to see any sights. Very disappointed. The internet advertisement is misleading and says nothing about agritourism and country approach. Van driver had never heard of it. Reccomend travelers stay in the city of Rome. At least with the noise you have restaurants and services.

shabby and noisey
I had booked a room in the countryside. The one I received was in the village, shabby with old worn Louis the 14th gold painted chairs, a camp table in the middle of the room and a peeling huge mirror over a buffet table, a door lock with four dead bolts as you would find in a bank vault, a king size bed too large for the bedroom, a 2 ft tub area where you could slid about, mosquitos as their wasn't enough screens on the barred windows, a broken up sidewalk as the entry where you could park a car after going over the curb, and breakfast was served out at the ranch house which was over a half mile away. The noise came from the buses passing by and the chatter behind the room in a courtyard. Very difficult to sleep. Other folks must have had a different room then I did, but I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RIP OFF TO ANYONE.

Location without service
Great location -- no service. We were dropped off by taxi at the address given and found out (via a note taped to their door) that we had to walk a half-mile on a dirt road with our bags to check in. Once checked in -- we were driven back to the original location. Our clerk agreed to get a taxi for us the next morning (we confirmed several times) The taxi never came. We had to engage the help of some local people -- and barely made our flight. It was a frustrating end to our trip. If you don't care about service -- the location is great -- a midevil village -- very charming.

True countryside
The hotel and its countryside building are 800 meters apart. If you are staying there for the sake of being close to the airport and saving some money on the commute, don't bother, taxi charge is about the same to/from Rome and to/from this hotel, although distances are vastly different. The place is located inside the ancient/ archeological/ historical town. The ancient village is very small but very cute and offers two nice local restaurants. We had to kill half a day near Rome and it was a perfect spot. It is a true countryside because it is located among chicken farms and other fields and smells like it, but in a very nice, authentic way. I think they have lots of different types of rooms. Ours was in a countryside and upgraded, so we had two floors. It is an actual apartment set up with two additional small beds downstairs and a kitchen. It is a lovely place. My husband thought it was "funky." And we ate better food than in Rome.

Rodrigo de Vivar--close to airport
This is advertised as being close to the airport. While it actually only is a few miles, the only transportation we could get was a taxi and for less than 5 miles, that cost us $50. Upon arriving, there was no clear indication exactly where the hotel was located. It was not clearly marked. We had to search until we found the entrance. Then that was locked and there was a small sign indicating they were in the country and would be back shortly. We waited 1 hour and someone still did not arrive. We needed to make an international phone call to the hotel and then someone came. Apparently they have 2 locations; a "city" one and a "country" one. We were assigned to the country one yet we did not have a car. We had to walk over 1 mile the next morning to a bus stop in order to be able to get transportation back to the airport. The hotel in the country had a sense of quaintness and intrigue about it, but we felt isolated from being able to get something to eat or transportation anywhere. They do provide meals throughout the day, but that was a significant additional cost. It ended up fine and a good story, but the hotel needs to be much more clearly marked and staff continuously at both locations. If we would have needed anything, there was no one around. If we had arrived even 30 minutes later to the hotel it would have been closed for the night and we would have been completely stuck, even though this was NOT at all advertised on the website or through hotels.com.

Extra effort
We had a good experience. They gave us an upgraded room. The Delphine apt was very nice. Being there in the winter however, it was a little cold. The staff went waaay out of their way to get a space heater for us, and that was much appreciated. A couple of hints: it is NOT a U.S. or even a European city experience. It's charming and you couldn't be closer to the ruins (which are fabulous) but don't expect a Sheraton. Second, call ahead to make sure someone is there when you are planning to arrive. There are two offices, one in town and one in the country and I don't think they realize that someone arriving may not know that there are two offices, or which one to go to, and if you sit around waiting for them to just arrive (like the sign suggests) you may be waiting a long while. If you arrive in town and the office is closed, just call the second number on the sign right away.

Don't stay at this hotel
When we were shown our room, my husband and I noticed that it looked lived in.Food in the refrigerator and an unlocked adjoining door so I asked the man who had carried our luggage for a key. He said "You can't lock the door, I need to use the kitchen."It was his apartment and evidently we were expected to sublet from him.I explained to him that this was not going to happen. That I had a confirmed reservation for a private hotel room. The manager at first insisted they were full but then finally found a room. The next day a different person was in the office and we told her what happened. She was suprised because she sd they had several vacant rooms.Bed was so hard that the floor probably would have slept better. It was very cold and there was not heat. Ran out of hot water every time I showered. The light was out in the bathroom and was never repaired. We were miserable. This was the beginning of a cruise trip and I had also booked a night at this hotel after the cruise before our flight home.I cancelled it and rebooked at a different hotel.

I was not pleased with this accommodation. It in my opinion is not a four star facility but perhaps a two star. One bathroom being shared by three rooms is not my idea of a good place to be. There is not a shuttle service to and from the airport as stated on the website and requires 60 Euros for a round trip by taxi. There is a one kilometer ride to get breakfast in the morning whereby the facility will shuttle you to breakfast at either eight or nine o'clock. We spent one month in Italy and this place was one of lesser quality places we stayed and the price was not cheap at this facility.

Good escape from the everyday
I didn't know exactly what to expect when booking this hotel because of the varied reviews. I was under the impression that I was getting a small cabin in the woods or something very private as I opted for the country rooms. The description made it seem like I would be staying at a cottage or something old and romantic What is actually there is a rectangular building that's been turned into a duplex. You enter through a main door, have a center room with tv and couch, and each room has their own door to the left and the right. The actual room was very spacious and was clean. There is no ac and the windows stay open for ventilation so there is a bit of a musty smell I guess, but not like you're in a cellar or anything. Some of the other reviews were a bit too critical on that. It's an old house so the smells are on par with that. The only real gripe I would make is that the bed should be upgraded. It's seen its fare share of use and is a bit springy feeling. Oh, and there wasn't a stand up shower, just a tub with a handheld showerhead so anticipate that. I also had to throw a towel over the bathroom window as it just had a doily over it and you could clearly see inside from the parking area. Ok, as for finding it...as the other reviews say, none of the taxi drivers know about it for some reason and the taxi drivers in Italy will take any fare as long as they think they can find it so bring a map. If you don't have a map, just remember to tell them that it's across the street from Ostia Antica. They should all know where that is. Oh, and yes, expect to pay between 30 and 40 euro for a trip to or from the airport. I asked for a taxi to the airport and they arranged one to pick me and my wife up. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit rundown. There is graffiti everywhere but it seems to be the case everywhere around Rome. The country rooms are at least a ways from the town so I doubt if it really was a shady area that anybody would bother going down there. I was suppose to rent a car but after seeing the insurance fees I opted out. I thought I was going to be stuck in the hotel but it turns out there is a metro station just a few blocks away. This was an great plus for the location. It was about a 15 minute walk from our country room down the dirt road and then across the town. The hotel staff is not really brushed up on their english but they at least make an effort. There was one girl there that spoke well but she wasn't there all the time. If you stay here, expect it to be a getaway from all things modern. Do not go expecting internet, phone, TV, or other modern niceties. If you go expecting some country resort, then you will be disappointed. If you go expecting a old worldy experience that's next to an ancient city and is reasonably priced, then you'll be pleased.

We did not stay in the main part of this lovely old hotel, but rather a room in the Country-Side ( by choice.) We were "escorted" there by a gentleman from the hotel, but prior to our going - we were provided with a basket of breakfast items that we could take to our room. So nice since were were leaving early in the morning prior to breakfast. The old farm house and accomodations were Wonderful,. The room was much larger than I expected, comfortable and clean. Horses, chickens, gardening on the grounds. A short walk to a restaurant where we had the BEST meal in all of Italy!! The Chef was the host, waiter, and of course cook.....What a Wonderful first nite in Italy!!! I would go back in a heartbeat and recommend it highly.

Hidden Jewel right near Rome's Fiumicino Airport
This was a great stay for us! We chose it because of the close proximity to the airport for our last night in Italy. That aspect was great...in 10 minutes, we were at the airport. But...we didn't expect such cozy and charming accomodations!! We were staying with friends, so booked 2 countryside rooms (the main hotel was full). I am so glad we did! We had two adjoining rooms (suites really) that shared a living room with a fireplace. It was nice and cool at night when we were there(early October), but the cottages DO NOT have air conditioning, which may not be so great in July or August. (There was a fan in the room). They were like cozy cottages...wish we had more time there. Each side had its own separate bedroom and bathroom. The bathrooms were super-modern and clean. There was even a little refrigerator in each room, stocked with beverages (available for a fee). Beds were comfy, although a little hard. Breakfast was very good: pastries, cappucino, fresh fruit...not a whole lot, but it was good. Some cautions: DO NOT try to find this hotel in the dark...it is very hard to find, even in the day. The countryside rooms are best for those with a car, as they are literally down a country road and away from any restaurants etc. Also note...chickens and roosters next door! Great if you want to get up early, probably not so great if you don't. It is RIGHT NEXT TO the CASTLE Gulio...and many ruins. We had planned to see them but arrived too late...looked very neat and worth spending half a day there. Everyone in the office that we encountered were SUPER nice!! Francesca, who was there to greet us, spoke perfect English. She was very helpful and even printed out mapquest directions for us to get to the airport! This was a great value, and a wonderful way to end our Italian vacation!

Quaint
Near Rome airport and Ostica Antica ruins, this is why it was chosen. Walk to the ruins, free if you are over 65. The hotel is 600 years old and quaint really describes it. Paid for a large room, very quiet, 4 poster bed, TV only in Italian. No hot water because it was turned off, fixed quickly (30 minutes). Nice town to walk around in. Good for early flight out of FCO. Must call taxi, none available in town. Lots of places to eat, bank nearby. Hotel is on the castle grounds, very picturesque.

I stayed next to a castle!
I arrived very late but got excellent treatment, then stayed in a lovely "apartment" next to the on-grounds castle. It was a dream!
