Fun fun fun

Posted Dec 8, 2016
I loved the whole set up. Alittle dated but come on you are staying in a train car! All the comforts are there. Staff was so nice, funny and cool. Abby in Casey Jones clubcar restaurant, was really sweet and helpful on where to go for good shopping and gave us a good laughs.

Unique. Staff was very friendly.

Posted Dec 7, 2016
Pros: Unique and fun.
Cons: Storage hooks for clothes. Bath matts.
Location: Close to everything. Shopping, tourist stuff.
The whole experience was fun. The dining car had exceptional food and service. Lots to do right on the property with a barn with movies and a sylo that had an observation area. They even had a petting zoo and buggy rides.

KIDS ENJOYMENT

Posted Dec 5, 2016
Location: The Surrounding areas near here include the Strasburg Railroad and museum. the motel has a restaurant in RR dining car decor and excellent food.
Staying in one of the Caboose cars is an exceptionally enjoyable experience when you have your 3 and 7 year old grandchildren with you. it is unbelievable how the owners of this motel have decorated the insides of these cars for an enjoyable experience with comfortable beds, showers, microwave and mini refrigerators in each car, plus cable television with many channels for all to enjoy. Just the excitement of our grand kids was the highlight of this night.

Woo Woo Red Caboose Inn (funny idea)

Posted Dec 5, 2016
Pros: Novelty and close location to entertainment venues
Cons: Not too much. It is designed to be rustic and it is. Unusual idea that fits with local area entertainment. Would probably make more road signs.
Location: Toy train museum. Sight and Sound theater. Strasburg railroad. Lancaster outlets and Amish venues
Reserved double:double (two double beds in one caboose) on recommendation of docent at local historical site. He was a railroad enthusiast. We (two couples) went to Lancaster to see the Sight and Sound Theater which is a few miles from the Red Caboose. Within a mile of full-scale railroad yard and train ride and the toy train museum. The restaurant car is out of the 1800's and serves a generous dish. Free Wi-Fi, microwave plus fridge in the caboose-room (over 30 to choose from). It was end of the season and they were shutting down for the winter but the room was warm despite the outside temperature. Free movies if you wish or you can watch cable TV. Overall a fun time. I plan on bringing the grandson and his parents for the experience next Spring.

Too old and not kept up to date inside.

Posted Nov 22, 2016
Not modern and convenient. Older people have difficulty with footing and steppping up into and down from facility. Also quite small for adults. The restaurant was much more acceptable and showed a quaint theme. Food was nightce. With reasonable prices and portions. and

Fun not luxury!

Posted Nov 6, 2016
You're sleeping in a caboose, old trains to be exact. If you're expecting 5 star luxury, you're probably insane anyway. You are also staying in the middle of farm land, and that's what you get, FUN! There's a cute petting zoo, a silo turned into a viewing station, free movie each night on a large screen in a barn turned theater, a super cool dining car restaurant (the special old fashioned recipe cake is EXCELLENT), oh and you sleep in your private caboose. These are just some of the PROs of this very cool motel. You should go and have a good time yourself to find out all the enjoyment. The CONs are few. But, to name a few, it's old trains. So, it's not perfect. Age shows. But, there's really nothing that can be done about that. With the kids, you'll find walking around the train a little hectic, because there isn't much walking space. But, remember it's a train not a motel room. This is a place to stay to have FUN and just revel in the fact that you have your own private train to sleep on. It's a novelty to be enjoyed, go and enjoy.

Rooms needs help...

Posted Nov 1, 2016
Pros: What I like about this hotel is the location and the different activities being offered. They had a petting zoo, the working model train in the store as well as movies in the barn and the observation Silo to overlook the area. The staff was also friendly too.
Cons: Despite the size being small, which is what you expect when staying in a caboose, the room I stayed in (Caboose 38) was in need of renovation. The ladder to the bunk bed wasn't tacked down and the floor was slanted causing my son to fall when he was coming down from his bed. The shower was gross with what I can only think was mold in the caulking. One of the AC units was in the bathroom, weird, and the other one was other side of the caboose but hanging out precariously. There was dust and lint particles hanging from the walls everywhere. My eldest son who is allergic to dust could not enjoy his sleep because of his reaction. It was horrid. We will not be returning. The price was unbelievably high for such shabby accommodations. I mean really, they knew 5 of us were staying in it but they only gave us 3 towels to use. It was a good thing my wife brought extra towels.
Location: The Motel is located in the heart of Amish country and a 15 minute drive to Rte 30 which will bring you to a the Rockvale and Tanger Outlets.

Dear FaNaTiK4JC, Thank you for staying at the Red Caboose Motel. I'm sorry that your caboose didn’t meet your expectations. Our property is owner new ownership as of February 1st, 2016, and we’re working around the clock to address deficiencies like the ones you have pointed out in your review. I will immediately have our maintenance department address the unsecured ladder and dirty caulk in your bathroom. Our housekeepers are well trained to identify and remove dust and mold from the rooms. Dust and the appearance of mold is a constant battle due to our proximity to farmland and the steam railroad - both of which can make the cleanest room appear dirty in an instant. I will also address the lack of towels with my Housekeeping Manager. Even when a room is not properly stocked with towels we are accessible 24/7 to fulfill requests for additional towels, blankets or toiletries. Guest safety and satisfaction are top priorities for the Red Caboose Motel staff. Thank you for bringing these things to our attention. All aboard, Tyler D. Prickett Owner / General Manager

Sleeping in old cabooses is a unique concept. However, they forgot about the number 1 rule of hospitality - provide clean rooms. There was dust and cobwebs all over the walls and ceiling. The bathroom counter was cracked and the shower head was loose and pulling out from the wall. It's like they came up with a great idea of the caboose and stopped there. The rooms need some major updating and the housekeepers need better training.

Dear Nik, Thank you for staying aboard the Red Caboose Motel. I'm sorry you were not satisfied with the cleanliness of your room. Did you bring your findings to the attention of the Front Desk so that maintenance or housekeeping could correct them? We pride ourselves on clean rooms and rapid maintenance service. If we have fallen short on either I am terribly sorry and would like to know more about your experience. Several of our rooms are going to be taken offline beginning next month for replacement of carpet, bathroom vanities, fixtures, lighting and more. Since taking over the property on February 1st of this year we've worked tirelessly to update the rooms and appreciate your patience while we continue this renovation process. All aboard, Tyler D. Power went out at 7 am. Lost heat & lights!

Location: Good area. Loved the theme & the caboose room.
Had to leave early because no heat or power & it was very cold & windy. No one was able to shower or get ready for the day.

Valued guest, I'm sorry your trip had to be cut short. Immediately after hearing about this power outage we had an electrician dispatched to diagnose the problem. The issue was confined to your caboose and the adjoining unit and was traced to a bad element in the water heater that caused the breaker to trip. It has since been remedied and the power has been restored. Again, my apologies. Tyler D. Prickett Owner / General Manager
