Beautiful hotel, lots of history. No beach

Very friendly staff. Always willing to please. Slightly pricey. Close to shopping. Just need a beach, but beautiful views of the ocean. Lots of stairs.

Great location

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Our stay in Dominica was enriched by staying at the Fort Young. The staff were friendly, professional and efficient. The rooms were comfortable, clean but the highlight was our wonderful buffet breakfasts. Such a wide choice of popular and traditional dishes. Cannot wait to go back!

Lovely hotel with wonderful views of the ocean

Posted Jul 23, 2017 on Ebookers
Pros: Location couldn't be better as on the ocean and close to the centre. Food was very good and the staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: Probably could have used a map for the layout of the hotel as it is somewhat a maze with reception being on the fifth floor.
Location: In the centre, close to the harbour walk, markets and the botanical gardens. ATM close by and taxi drivers can take exporing the island
Interesting hotel that was once the fort, hence the name. Staff are friendly and the room we had was large with a balcony overlooking the ocean. There are several restaurants on site and plenty of local places within walking distance.

Good location but terrible staffs!

Posted Jul 10, 2017
I booked 2 rooms & requested the rooms to be near each other as I was with 2 seniors who needed assistance. Upon checking in, I asked if the rooms are near each other & if on the same floor. The lady who checked us in said "yes". It turned out, our rooms are on opposite sides of 2 joined buildings. And to go to them, I need to go down to the first level, go to the other building & go up again. Someone heard our complains while dragging our luggages up & down the stairs to go to our rooms so they upgraded us. Very nice of them. Although, the lady who checked us in frowns at us whenever she sees us. Our rooms were cleaned daily, but the toiletries were not replenished until we left. And we even gave tips! Good thing we brought our own. On our last day, at the Palisades Restaurant were we have our breakfast daily, the waitress told us to bring our plates to the kitchen. When we replied "what?", she repeated "When you're done eating bring your plates to the chef in the kitchen". We know that everywhere you go there's somebody rude. But, in this hotel, there are more rude people than any other hotels I've been to. I've travelled all over the world. But no one is as rude as this waitress. No, this person wasn't joking. Before she said this to us, the receptionist said to 2 young males (Asian & Caucasian) that they shouldn't be eating inside the restaurant were they are serving the buffet. They must eat outside, at the patio. So, the 2 guys ate fast & left asap. Unfriendly staff!

My choice in Dominica

Posted Jun 27, 2017 on Hotels
I am a frequent traveler to Dominica, making aprox. 4 trips per year. The Fort Young is my only choice. If no rooms are available I prefer to postpone my trip. I will not find nicer rooms in the island like the ones at the seafront building of the Fort Young.

Comfortable. Close to everything

The only problem is that there is no parking. Required parking on the street sometimes blocks away. Hotel is rather unique with many different levels and views. Other than the parking problem it was any enjoyable stay.

There are not many decent options in Roseau and in the past, this hotel has been adequate but not on this stay. We looked forward to a quiet, relaxing Sunday afternoon but returned to find a wedding in progress right outside our room. After 6 hours of extremely loud music, (so loud that we could not even turn the TV up loud enough to hear it over the music) yelling, laughing, screaming etc. we were done and will not return to this hotel. I hope they made a lot of money on the wedding because it cost them our future business and a bad review.

Nice hotel if you get the right room

Posted May 28, 2017
Pros: the location close to the centre of town was good
Cons: room allocation
Location: lots of shopping available
The room we were allocated was the noisiest in the hotel. The room was right above the activities desk and the marketing manager and every call could be heard from the room. Discussions at the activity desk could be heard. it was a high traffic area and noisy. The view of the sea was non-existent.

Hello Shennel, Many thanks for your review and rating. The hotel is undergoing a few upgrades to the rooms surrounding the activities desk , these are located in the original section of the hotel and therefore not all rooms with in this section have a view of the sea. We do have rooms directly facing the ocean: called Oceanfront and Deluxe. We do hope we will have the opportunity to serve you in the future and give you the true Fort Young Experience.
