Friendly staff however noisy from road traffic.

Posted Mar 31, 2017 on Lastminute
Pros: The friendly receptionist and the offer to be moved to a different room.
Cons: Replace the arm chair in the room, put net curtain or blind on window behind TV to stop the glare from window when looking at TV and provide privacy.
Location: Fenton Street leads to the central city shops and lakefront in 5 minutes. 2 supermarkets and takeaway food outlets within 2-3 minutes drive from motel
After a lot of driving I was looking for a quiet relaxing stay and rest. On arrival the receptionist was very prompt and friendly, she escorted me to my room and showed me where to park. Sadly the room was disappointing. The armchair was old and uncomfortable. There was no net curtain or blind on the window, it was uncomfortable looking at the TV as it was placed in front of a window where there was a lot of glare. It felt like there was no privacy as anyone could look in the window. The room felt dark and claustrophobic and smelt stuffy even with the windows open. There was a lot of road noise. When I decided not to stay the receptionist offered to move me to a different room, however as the Motel is placed on a busy main road into Rotorua I didn't think moving would have made a lot of difference. When I booked it online I was not familiar with Rotorua, was unaware of the road location and did not realize the traffic would be so busy and noisy - so a lesson learnt by myself about on-line booking.

Thank you for your feedback, the majority of Hotels (over 90%) are located on Fenton Street. Fenton Street may be the main motel road, but is is normally quiet after 8pm, this weekend was a busy weekend with school rugby and rowing competition, the majot cranxwork cycle event and the circus, perhaps just a lot more people on Rotorua this weekend than normal

ok location

Posted Mar 17, 2017
Pros: location
Cons: as above
unable to open door sticking at top -fire hazard. unable to find key to ajoining room next door which would have been another way to escape in event of a fire.Staff found us somewhere else to stay that was satisfactory

The room you were booked into had two exits, most rooms just have one exit, there was the ranch slider door at the back, the front door into your room, the adjoining room was locked as another guest had booked that room. The door upstairs in the bedroom, was a service door into the roof, we do hope you enjoy your stay

Do not stay at Silver Oaks Geyserland

Posted Mar 2, 2017
We were booked to stay at Gwendoline, we called up the day before our stay to double check our booking done through expedia and were told that they tried contacting us because they were fully booked but we had been moved to Silver Oaks Geyserland another motel owned by Geendoline owners just 2 mins down the road. I did not get a call or email at all. We had no choice but to go with it. Geyserland is a horrible place to stay. The whole place was run down. Our rooms on 2nd floor were not clean. Carpet was sticky, mattress were ripped on the sides, floor looked like it was about to cave in because it wasnt levelled, toilet seat was broken, insects in bathroom and room, towels were stained, the pool was dirty so we didnt want to swim in it. Im surprised its still open for business. Im glad it was just a one night stay, I couldnt wait to get out of there. I dont mind if its old, but if its kept clean, tidy and maintenance around the whole place would be good. Dont let the photos deceive you of Geyserland. Its not all what it really looks like. Very disappointing.

over due for refurbish

Posted Feb 27, 2017
Pros: nothing
Cons: A total refurbish. They let slip that they were having cleaning problems at another motel in the group.
Location: We were visiting friends so didn't visit the activities. Rotorua is always a lovely place to visit.
Booked studio, upgraded to one bedroom. When shown studio, agreed we would not have stayed in it.Considered it past it.The one bedroom unit had a strong damp smell, the radiator was leaking, one blanket on one bed was dirty and they were reluctant to change it.The spa pool was not usable by older people as it had no suitable access. One wooden step up to the spa pool had rotted through, made you wonder about the safety of the rest. We had them spray the unit to kill the damp smell and had to borrow a fan off our friends as none were available from the motel. For our second night we were moved to another unit which was not much better although it did not smell. I made the mistake of paying first or we would not have stayed. It has discouraged us from booking on line in future. It definitely is the worst motel we have stayed in. We have hospitality experience ourselves and no way would we have presented that standard of unit to the public.
