nice hotel, clean rooms, friendly staff.

Nice room but a bit small. Not enough parking places. But in general, it's a nice place to stay for a short stay.

Great hotel and location.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for us. The hotel even has a storage room for mountain bikes and cleaning facilities. Great!

Pros: Hotel was close to town.
Location: Rotorua had a lot to do near the hotel.
Bathroom had a "wet towel" smell. Wasn't sure if it was due to the sulfur smell from the hot springs, or not a clean towel when cleaning the bathroom.

Nice quiet hotel 5 mins drive from town centre

Posted Apr 18, 2017
Pros: comfortable beds + quiet + full buffet breakfast & spa
Cons: Offering bottled water & milk in the rooms fridge.
Location: Cycling trail & thermal activity
The hotel has 24 hour reception with nice comfortable beds and nice & quiet so we got a great nights sleep. Although the hotel is not right in town it does offer bikes and backs onto a bike trail which we heard was a great experience (it was raining so we never got to do it). We also got offered a discounted breakfast voucher which was helpful with a full buffet breakfast that had everything!!! We stayed for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed the spa, happy hour & dinner in the restaurant each night. Would have liked some bottled water & milk in the fridge though.

Thanks for staying with us at Holiday Inn Rotorua and for your many positive comments. We don't offer bottled water in our rooms as the tap water is drinkable however we are happy to provide complimentary filtered water if requested.

Stay away if you don't like the sulphur smell

Posted Apr 17, 2017
Hotel looks nicer in the photos as they must be old. You can't get away from the sulphur smell. We all couldn't sleep it was so strong. The air conditioner wouldn't work properly so I think it made the smell worse. The buffet dinner was a total rip off. Prawns were soaking in some weird water. Certain foods were ruined by adding curry powder or chilli. The best think was we could do the washing.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Holiday Inn Rotorua, I was disappointed to read your comments regarding our Chapmans buffet. Our location close to the Whakarewarewa Thermal valley does mean that the sulphur smell is strong around the hotel, some people do find it unpleasant but most guests find that they quickly don't notice it.

Stayed 1 night. Good place for the price

Posted Apr 16, 2017
Room/bed was clean. Friendly staff. Only thing was the bathroom. Some of the shower fixtures (some plastic and some metal) were rusting or stained. Bathroom door was slightly damaged/old. One more thing.. I think the hotel sits behind a geothermal. I can't confirm it. Only saw the steam rising from the back of the hotel as we were driving away from the hotel the next morning. Overall, decent place.

Great view of hot springs

Near to te puia and the whakarewarewa Maori village, with a great view of hot springs. You just have to get used to the sulphur smell.

more than just a chain hotel

Posted Apr 8, 2017
Pros: Beds, cleanliness, spacious rooms
Cons: staff coudl be a bit warmer
Location: a bit out of town, but close to Te Puia.
We had a night here, and although it's a bit out of town and the lake, it is very handy to Te Puia. The facilities are very nice and clean and apparently there are new beds which I commented on the comfort of to staff.

Hi Claire Thanks for your feedback, it was great to read that you found our beds so comfortable. I am sorry that our staff came across less than warm. Regards
