Perfect for a family vacation

Posted Jan 11, 2018
Location: Excellent location. Close to many major attractions..
FDR is an awesome family spot if you are traveling with kids. The nanny included is what sold us on this hotel, & it worked out great. Janice was amazing with both the 3 year old and 1 year old who are usually super attached to us! They were out and about with her within the first hour. The property could use renovation, but that didn't matter. The rooms, restaurants, and property were well kept and clean. The staff was super friendly. The best part was the atmospher, it's a small resort so be prepared to make good friends who are also sharing their struggles with raising kids :) Everything was a few steps away which made doing things convenient. Food was okay, but we didn't go to Jamica for the food, we went for peace of mind and we got it...

near deadly vacation

Posted Jan 11, 2018
Pros: the bar and restaurant staff. the nannies. the food was better this year.
Cons: Safety #1. Electrical. Plumbing. Desserts.
Near deadly vacation I’ve never experienced anything like this, and could easily be described as the worst night of my life. Upper management continues to not acknowledge affected guests had a traumatic event and offer sympathy at a minimum. What about this says hospitality? Either management staff is not empowered by the owner to make significant customer service decisions; or they are directed by the owner to do very little to solve customer service problems. On the second night of our vacation a firework or flare went off in the dining area right behind our baby’s highchair and landed at the table next to us. Everybody was very shaken up but OK. Then, later that night the power went off around 9 o’clock and we smelled smoke. (I think these were completely separate events, but ironic all the same). We were using a Wi-Fi baby monitor for our 16 month old and the Wi-Fi went down, so my husband went to check on the baby. After another minute I saw people grabbing fire extinguishers so I went to go check on the baby too. I heard nervous staff murmurs wondering if people were trapped in a burning building, and so I started sprinting towards my room. The stair entrance to our block of rooms was in flames with a smell of burning plastic in the air. I tried to go up the stairs but the smoke was too thick and staff members were pulling at me to come back away from the building. I was screaming and shouting to let them know to go in our room to check on our baby. I did not se

Best for Small Children

Posted Jan 7, 2018
This is a small resort focused on families with children from baby's to perhaps 7 or 8 years old. Each family has an assigned nanny which makes it carefree for those with small children. Our grandchildren are 9 and 11 and having a nanny follow them around was not needed. The beach and snorkeling are there along with lots of staff - but no programming or focus on the older kids. Safe but boring. Tennis and basketball (not great in hot weather) are there but the Foosball machine, pool table and ping pong table all were indeed of repair. The rooms are tired - perhaps equivalent to a 3 star and only decently maintained. The facility is well maintained and the staff are always helpful and friendly.

Amazing resort for young families. Gives parents a chance to recharge their batteries, and there is always something fun going on for the kids. Staff was wonderful and so accommodating, and our family loved the nannies that we were provided with.

Lovely quaint resort.

Overall it was relaxing and comfortable The kids loved it and the children activities ( of which all agevgroups are superbly catered for). Having a nanny is great for those who seek adult only time but we didn't require that as much because as a family holiday we tend to stick and do things with each other. Our nanny was pleasant and helpful. The food was good especially but could do with more buffetvstyle at the main restaurant on the evening. Although there's a vegetarian menu it was not available we had to ask for it and even then only one item was available which took near to 1hr to arrive at which point the kids were tired and agitated. The food was very delicious when it eventually came. The smoothie and fresh fruits drinks were fabulous and the ice cream hut was a great hit with all. The glass bottom boat trips were great fun too. The goat racing was good fun.The staff were friendly and accommodating on the main. Would certainly recommend anyone to go to FDR.

Great with toddlers!

Posted Sep 4, 2017
Pros: Nanny service, staff service
Cons: The beach area on FDR side could be more dressed up, gift shop needs serious improvement, and the French cuisine!
Location: Ocho Rios is close, lots of activities, such as Dunn's River Falls, Dolphin Cove, shopping.
We have 2 daughters; 4 and 2 years old. Our 4 years-old has bilateral cochlear implants, she was born deaf, so she wears an external device which look similar to hearing aids. Our 2 year-old is very temperamental, she is a handful. The two often fight. We went to Jamaica, my husband and I, with our two daughters. We had heard about the nanny service and didn't have high hopes because we figured since it's included with the hotel, it must be mediocre at best. Besides, nobody can really handle our kids. We were pleasantly surprised. Her name is Alyssa, she had been at the resort for 1 year only, but she was immediately drawn to by our girls. They have never stayed with babysitters since they were born by the way. They liked Alyssa; over the 1 week we stayed at FDR, they grew attached to her. We still vacationed with our girls, but it was nice to have breakfast and/or lunch in peace, overlooking the turquoise waters, with the gentle sea breeze blowing through our hair, with a freshly-blended smoothie or pina colada. The Jamaican cuisine was the best. The staff service; their promptness, their nice attitude, their welcoming smiles, we loved it all. The jerk chicken was always available. Best part, we felt like we fit right in, like we belonged. There were so many other families like us. The nanny service was the absolute best part. Give this place a try, it's not a 5-star mega resort, but we learned that with small children, smaller, family-friendly resorts are much more fun :)

Thank god for the nannies!!!!!

Posted Sep 1, 2017
Pros: The Nannies are great with the kids and give the parents a chance to enjoy their vacation! The suites are huge with great view!
Cons: Night time adult activities.Food & Beverage service on the beach.A lot more top shelf liquor.Bottled beer.Buffet needs to open everyday for all 3 meal
Location: Great location! Everything is less than an hour away!
We had a great time. The nanny service provides fun for the kids and relaxation for the parents. We stayed in a 2 bedroom water front suite; it was a 2 floor suite and had plenty of room with a huge balcony! Check-in was a breeze. While talking to the other guests there, most of which have been here multiple times; the resort has been progressing every year. The resort listens to the guests suggestions and acts on them. I suggested more evening adult activity, the resort seems to shut down after 9pm. The suites should be stocked with beverages and snacks, they seemed to be a little stingy with that! The bar needs more top shelf liquor. The liquor was very limited and was loaded with local cheap liquor. The bar also needs to serve bottled beer as well as tap; some of us prefer bottles! Stock was very low as well, seemed to have 1 bottle of each on hand and ran out of coconut water everyday! Running out of anything is unacceptable as my money was paid in FULL so the amenities better stay FULL! The food is decent, stick with the chicken, it was by far, the best thing at the resort! I didn't like the French or Italian dinner night themes, we are in Jamaica, I want Jamaican food! Why would a Jamaican resort want to serve French or Italian food? If I wanted French food, I would have vacationed in France. This is a family resort but needs to cater to the parents more, its not Sesame Place, ITS JAMAICA! Anyway, the kids had a blast!! Me and my wife had fun and relaxed as well.

Thank you for sharing your review with us. We appreciate your comments about our nannies, food, location and amenities. It is great to read that the kids had a blast and you and your wife had fun and relaxed. Each Suite has an en Suite request form with family favorites such as snacks, fruits and beverages. This is usually completed daily by mom or dad and stocked by your vacation nanny at no additional cost. The coconut water is very popular and runs out very quickly at the bar. We apologize that it was not replenished on time during your stay. Our regular guests demand more than just buffet meals and jamaican food so we try to offer as many dining options as possible. Rest assured that your comments will be useful in improving on our FDR Holiday. We look forward to hosting you and the family again soon.

A safe place for your children, while you rest.

Posted Aug 21, 2017
Pros: Nannies were excellent, my twins got attached to their Nanny within 1 day. They pick the kids at 8am so wife and I slept in everyday
Cons: Front office/reception is quite rustic, could use some updating out of the 70s but the reception staff are very warm and pleasant, and you are safe.
Location: Quite beach-front resort, for children - swimming pool, water slides, art n craft and sports. For adults unlimited beverages, boat tours, fishing etc
In a few words, it is a great vacation. The Nanny service was real and great, they got the kids busy while we go about our business. Food was super fresh. Breakfast, lunch and diner all had continental, Jamaican, and French or Italian, to choose from. Then there is the USA "grill" were French fries, burgers, hotdogs, wraps, popcorn and Jerk chicken are served anytime. Drinks are on me, you will get it when ever you need it between 6am and midnight.

Family Friendly Resort, Vacation Nannies Cool

Posted Aug 10, 2017 on Orbitz
FDRs competitive advantage is definitely their vacation nannies. For husbands and wives looking for some alone time on their family vacation, this resort gets the mark. The vacation nanny wil cater to your young child's ever desire (in the case of my 9 year old daughter, sending hours in the pool going down one of their pool slide). The food was great and the staff extremely accommodating. I would definitely recommend this resort to family and friends with children!
