The host, Manuel, was prompt and cordial and a good communicator, giving us clear directions on how to enter the property. The location is nice although it’s a busy, narrow street and traffic is a challenge. After we climbed up all the steps and opened the door we were hit with a very strong odor of pesticide. One family member thought it was cat urine, but to me it smelled like bug killer. We immediately opened a lot of windows and got the fan going, and left to get groceries. Came back 30 minutes later to find plenty of cockroaches or maybe box elder beetles crawling up the walls, and the insecticide smell was as strong as ever. After an hour I had a serious headache and we knew we couldn’t stay. When I messaged the owner he politely denied ever using pesticides or ever having seen bugs, and said I should take it up with Vrbo. I am in the process of doing just that, and I certainly cannot say that’s going well. The property’s interior has a shiny veneer over a dilapidated building, and as we were able to find much cheaper and higher quality lodgings elsewhere, I’d have to say it is quite over priced. It was a rough beginning to our holiday trip.
