service and comfort that remains one of family

Posted Aug 30, 2017
Despite a somewhat outdated interior the stay was comfortable and the beds the most comfortable I've slept in. The quality of the bed linen a dream. Old world charm and I'll be back..the spa a hidden gem: the pool area needs screening in some way

Great hotel, super facilities

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Great hotel with super facilities in the heart of Madrid. Loved the pool and gym. Rooms are big and bright, comfortable beds, very spacious bathroom. Breakfast was a very decent spread, maybe slightly over priced. Side walk cafe great and Japanese restaurant excellent. A definite favourite in Madrid

Welling Hotel Madrid was fine but overpriced

Posted Aug 16, 2017
Pros: Many remarks about the hotel on the internet are very unfair. Rooms excellent, staff friendly a bit "matter a fact". Pool area, excellent.
Cons: Refer to my point 2. Re: my knowledge of hotel management. The hotel has the old style, rich in tradition but the management policy has to modernise.
Location: The location was first class for the Prado, parks and places to eat and most important on a main bus route. Excellent
Reviewers on the internet comment on the quality of the rooms and the polities of the staff the location etc, one expects that as standard in a 5* hotel without question. My family have been in the hotel “business” (the Grand Metropolitan group) over many years and we have been in 5* and 5* plus hotels in many countries but we have never been in such an overpriced hotel with so little consideration and for the basic requirements for quests. One expects standard items in ones room: Kettle, coffee, milk, sugar, cups. We requested a kettle we got a kettle nothing else. I asked (with tongue in cheek) can I bring in my own coffee etc, that was OK. I remind you this a 5* hotel and I would have to purchase these items just to have a cup of coffee in my room something that is standard in any 3 4 or 5* hotel. If I wished to have a “do not disturb” sign for my room, again a standard item in any hotel I have been in it would have cost me 35 Euros. In the famous words of the international tennis player John McEnroe “you cannot be serious”. We have the money but spend it wisely! Yes, the hotel was very plush, old world style staff friendly etc but I expect that in any hotel, however, their policy for catering to guests is totally outdated and leaves much to be desired. I will be writing to the Management expressing my views in more detail and advising them how a modern hotel is managed for their guests

A Great Hotel to Base Your Stay in Madrid

Posted Aug 11, 2017
Pros: The location, the rooms, the cleanliness, the pool, the décor, everything!
Cons: Just that one gripe about the window frame vibrating when the traffic got busier but no real biggie.
Location: Like I mentioned above, it's a brilliant location and has easy links to the rest of the city. The park is massive and really does deserve exploring.
The hotel is situated just outside the Retiro park and is close to two Metro stops, meaning most of Madrid is easy to get to. There are some really good restaurants local to the hotel as well as many express-style supermarkets, so you won't want for much! The hotel itself is great, the rooms lovely and spacious with great bathroom facilities. One minor gripe was the noise from the road. For some reason the window frames would vibrate when larger vehicles passed outside (and we were 5 floors up!), so the vibrations tended to wake me when the traffic got busier (from around 0800 weekday mornings). But that is only a very small gripe! The pool is great to cool off in when the temperature rises too although you'll need to get there early if you want to sunbathe as well; most loungers are taken quickly and don't get given up until around 1700. Overall, I loved the place and would gladly stay there again. I didn't eat in the restaurant at any point but there are plenty on-site to choose from. The location is superb; near the centre but away from the more frantic parts of the city.

Beautiful hotel streets away from great shopping

Posted Aug 10, 2017
The only minus was, the sun doesn't start to reach the sun loungers at the pool till 10.45 As it is shadowed by buildings surrounding the pool
