The Willamette Valley is one of the most scenic wine region we have visited. Get your camera ready! We decided to walk across this bridge after visiting the nearby Children’s Museum. Famous for their French toast, Sassy Onion is a brunch staple on the top of our list in Salem. My personal favorite is the cinnamon roll french toast, nicely coated with cornflakes and drizzled with frosting. But if that's not your thing, the menu here is vast so you're sure to find something to suit you.
Pastry Queen's rating: 9.7 out of 10 Riverfront Park makes a great place to hang out, enjoy a picnic, walk, jog, play, or attend a local event.
For more see: The Salem Saturday Market now fills the parking lot at NE State and Marion with a food court, artisan and food vendors, and regular live music. Smaller markets are also hosted at other locations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and through the winter (check the website for details).
Most recently, we devoured a giant savory crepe, fresh strawberry lemonade, and a pork burrito, then picked up cinnamon rolls, fudge, strawberries, and fresh vegetables to bring home. Yum!

Bush Pasture Park is truly a multi-use space. From tennis courts and reservable baseball field, to playgrounds, picnic areas, a soapbox derby track, jogging paths, and an extensive garden, there is something for everyone. That’s not even mentioning the historic Bush House museum and the Bush Barn Art Center & Gallery.
For more see: This beautiful building has served as Oregon's primary state mental health institution as well as the setting of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. This hand-painted bench welcomes visitors of the Museum of Mental Health: a fascinating collection of this country's historical mistreatment of persons with mental illness. Don't know if I like it IKE Box Coffee Shop offers great work and hang-out spaces with a strong focus on community and a wide selection of drinks and treats. You would never know from the service and quality, but this is actually a non-profit cafe which provides life skills training for at-risk youth. Their back story is incredibly powerful!

For more see: Although I was originally drawn to the space itself at Broadway Coffeehouse, which I think is absolutely fantastic for work, meetings, or just hanging out, I quickly learned that they serve some of the most exceptional coffee in Salem as well. Their aim is to provide the best possible coffee experience in every cup, which is why they’ve partnered with Stumptown Coffee Roasters.
Apart from the spacious coffeeshop and outdoor seating in the summer, there are also meeting rooms upstairs that are free to reserve online. Their emphasis on community-building is evident with special touches like a parent room, art and music from local artists, a space to feature community partnerships, and a commitment to giving back to the community.
