Loved this hotel!

This is among my favorite stays in Salem. The hotel is gorgeous the staff is friendly and there are two kid friendly restaurants on premises which were wonderful and reasonably priced. The one small problem was our bathroom was the size of a closet. The sink and toilet were kind of smooshed in there but the shower was big. Overall myself and my six year old enjoyed it immensely and will be booking again.

Front desk personnel were VERY knowledge about the area attractions and, having noticed the type of jewelry and clothes style I wore, Katelynn recommended specific stores that I would enjoy - (She was spot on.) Having 1 1/2 bathrooms in our "2 queen beds" room was a big plus for our family and made getting ready morning and night a lot easier. The elevators smelled lightly of paint but we knew some renovations had just been completed and it was not distracting in the least. A small lending library on every floor and in the lobby was an added pleasure. We would definitely stay at the Hawthorne Hotel next time we come.

Historic and Contemporary

Pros: The location, restaurants onsite, cleanliness, and comfort.
Cons: The heating and water systems could be looked into and upgraded, but I imagine that is difficult to accomplish in a historic building.
Location: The town is pretty small, so everything is within walking distance. The Witch House and the House of Seven Gables are farthest away (Opposite sides)
The hotel staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the area and the hotel. The gentleman behind the front desk gave me advice on places to visit, things to do, and the best restaurants in Salem. It made the trip so much easier overall. In addition to gorgeous craftsmanship and style, the Hawthorne also offers a perfect location to wander around Salem. As it is in the center of the small historic district, I was able to wander and return to the hotel whenever I wanted without having to go too far out of the way. I would say the only downside is the size of the rooms and the heating system in the hotel. Here's the thing, I wanted to stay in a historic building in New England, in one of the oldest towns in the United States. With that in mind, I already knew the rooms would be small. The owners and staff do an incredible job with cleaning and upkeep of the rooms, so even though it was a tight fit, it also felt luxurious. The heating system, on the other hand, is a bit tough to get used to since it meant my room was comfortable, but the bathroom was freezing. It is about twenty degrees of difference between the bathroom and the bedroom which is a huge difference in the winter. It felt like trying to shower outside. It also took ten minutes for the water to heat up enough to shower, so I felt like I was wasting water.

I enjoyed my stay here. Jason at the front desk took care of me when I told him that I am allergic to pets. He made sure that I was on a floor no pets allowed. That was going the extra mile in my book. Really wish they had a refrigerator and microwave. But there is a restaurant connected to the hotel.

This hotel is in the perfect location for anyone visiting Salem. It's right across the street from the Witch Museum, and a short walk to most of the other main attractions. The styling and the history of the hotel also makes for a more authentic Salem experience. I would definitely stay here again and would suggest anyone else does too!
