The staff was great

Posted Sep 1, 2015
Our original room was smaller than we anticipated. When we told David, the front desk clerk, he upgraded us to a much larger room within minutes of our request.

Perfectly Located and Wonderful Rest

Posted Aug 26, 2015
Pros: Friendly staff, accessibility to attraction points.
Cons: Toilets flush very noisily--if this could be reduced, that would be wonderful.
Location: Peabody Essex Museum, House of Seven Gables, Waterfront District.
Stayed here with my partner for 2-nights and 3-days. We arrived a few hours earlier than the normal check-in time, but Mike at the front desk were more than happy to set our room as high priority so that we may check in an hour later. There were 2 guest parking lots and we were given a slip to place in our car. Also, they allowed us to park until 4PM on our last day so that we could see a few more sites before leaving. We stayed in the Alphonsa Room--full size 2-poster bed, flat screen television, small closet, and a stand-in shower bathroom. Since most of our time was spent outside of the hotel, it was the perfect room for us. The bathroom takes a bit of maneuvering for two people, but manageable. The room was spotless and housekeeping was very good. Ambiance was romantic and vintage--dimming chandeliers and shaded night stands. Sleep came easily to us, as the hotel enforced a quiet curfew beginning at 12:15AM. Downstairs, there is always complimentary coffee in the morning and lemonade in the afternoon outside of the Nathaniel's restaurant. Bottled water was also available to us at the front desk, in addition to complimentary YMCA guest passes. Spacious lobby with plush vintage sofas were also inviting after a long walk about the town. Being located at Washington Square, the hotel is within walking distance of all points of attractions, with the furthest walk being ~12 minutes to the House of Seven Gables. I would highly recommend this hotel to all visiting Salem.

Beautiful historic hotel close to all attractions

Posted Aug 20, 2015
This hotel remains true to its history while maintaining a clean and updated feel. It is comfortable and the staff was great! It was so close to all the main attractions which was great as we took the ferry in rather than driving in. Highly recommended!

Nice hotel local to everything in town

Posted Aug 19, 2015
Location: I went on a segway tour which was very fun, bit pricey but worth it. Very close to all the museums and bars/restaurants.
The only downside to this hotel was that i could only stay one night. The staff were lovely and accommodating and the price was very reasonable. It had a rustic charm about it and was lovely to stay in.

The Heart of Salem

Posted Aug 17, 2015
Pros: The lobby and restaurants were excellent and made the stay easier.
Location: It is located by most attractions in Salem, walk to everything even the House of the Seven Gables.
The Hawthorne was a pleasant surprise. Located within walking distance to everything. Very spacious room with a smaller bathroom but overall pleasing. I stayed at the Salem Waterfront in the past and like the Hawthorne better. It has a more comfortable homey feeling to it. The historic pieces throughout the hotel are excellent.

Location: Explore nautical history, scenic splendor, literary history, lovely gardens, art, oh, and the tragedy of the witch trials and the towns embrace of all
The Hawthorn Hotel has history, convenient location, beauty, grace, comfort and cleanliness. We had a great time rambling around Salem and the North Shore and knowing we had this place to come back to and cuddle up in. The bar tenders were attentive and helpful producing good beverages and food at a wide range of hours. The breakfast room was quiet and served reliable favorites.
