Remember the Alamo!Posted Nov 7, 2015
Loved location at Alamo Plaza. Only real disappointment was not being given a room that had been been restored. They were beautiful ! I think I should have been offered that option at the front desk. The food in the restaurant was positively outstanding so much so that we had every meal there! the hotel is absolutely beautiful and the Menger bar was a treat. Housekeeping needs improvement but the staff is unfailingly friendly. I'd stay there next time too!

Menger Hotel close to Riverwalk and Alamo PlazaPosted Nov 5, 2015
Pros: Location, nice staff, rocking chairs, pretty, I felt at home in my room. The staff was responsive and pleasant, helpful when I needed it.
Cons: The windows need to get double-paned FAST. Too loud, construction and people at all hours at Alamo Plaza (if you stay in the front standard rooms).
Location: Tons! Excellent location, Riverwalk opens 2 blocks away in a restaurant-populated section. Plus the hotel/Alamo Plaza area has cafes, shops, ice cream
I enjoyed the Menger Hotel - great location, right at Alamo Plaza and about 2 blocks from an entry point to Riverwalk on E. Crockett. There are also restaurants and ice cream within the same block. The hotel itself is very nice. Pros: rocking chairs outside in the Spanish Courtyard Garden are relaxing. The lobby is large, comfy, and great for people watching. The front desk is responsive and only missed one of my 5 requested wake-up calls. I found a huge plate of fresh fruit/cheese in my room when I checked in, plus 2 new bottles of water. Room was clean, small, cozy, and I liked it. There was seating in the area where you wait for the valet to call a taxi (some hotels do not have it). Cons: the cleaning staff had NOT removed 2 half-full bottles of water from the last guests. LOTS of construction and overnight noise - something that sounded like a lawn mower in the middle of the nights. Nightime fights (2:00am) outside the front of the hotel, which has thin single-paned windows and yet lobby staff that could not hear the fighting - I had to call the front desk to ask if they would call the police or if I should. The Syfy chnnel had NO signal Saturday-Monday of my stay, then did on Tuesday/Wednesday. The hotel shop had minimal toiletries available in a pinch and was out of some.

A lovely historic hotel with pleasant surprisesPosted Nov 4, 2015
Pros: The staff, the food.
Cons: The door was somewhat hard to work.
Location: Across from the Alamo, within blocks of Riverwalk and the Convention Center, a good drug store near by. Close to many attractions of San Antonio.
I found this hotel charming and pleasant. Most notable was the helpfulness of the staff, who offered many suggestions and answered all of my questions. The restaurant was an unexpected plus. Comfortable, good food, excellent service, with reasonable prices. The hotel itself is an historic landmark, with many explanatory plaques and notes. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Nice hotel excellent locationPosted Oct 27, 2015
Nice hotel with excellent staff. A bit outdated and needs room upgrades as well as upkeep of certain issues such as leakage in areas from rain. More electrical access for charging items

Charming hotel in a great location.Posted Oct 25, 2015
My daughter and I were so pleased with our stay at the Menger. The hotel is charming, our room was lovely - spacious and clean. The location was perfect with the riverwalk right around the corner and the Alamo across the street. The beauty and character of the hotel will have us remembering our San Antonio vacation for years to come. We will definitely choose to stay at the Menger again in the future.

close to the venue for the concertPosted Oct 22, 2015
Pros: Historic hotel that highlights its history.
Cons: Update the rooms and get at least a queen size bed in each room.
Room was quite small and bathroom was very small with bathtub touching the sink and sink touching the toilet. Bed was less than a standard double bed in size. Would have expected at least a queen size bed for the cost of the room.

Great character, grande dame of a hotel.Posted Oct 20, 2015
Pros: Close to the Alamo and Riverwalk, comfortable beds and a virtual museum in the lobby area.
Cons: Nothing that wouldn't change the historical authenticity.
Location: The Alamo is just across the street and around the corner, Casa Rio on the Riverwalk, the tour boats are a must on the Riverwalk, shopping the market.
We wanted to stay at an historic hotel near the Alamo and Riverwalk, and this one surely delivered. The only negative comment we have is that the rooms/baths are pretty small, but the charm and the wonderful, comfy beds made up for it. We sank into luxurious bedding and despite some road noise outside, slept like babies. Definite recommendation, we will certainly stay again.
