Appearances May Fool YouPosted Aug 18, 2015 on Hotels
This was an interesting place to stay, being touted as "San Antonio's Premier Boutique Hotel" is a bit of an overstatement. The hotel has an interesting history, but it seems it is stuck there. There is no parking, unless you pay them to park for you. The room we stayed in was very dated, and had an odd odor, probably from the old furniture in the room. It will sound odd, but you may actually have to go outside on a deck to get to your room. I felt like I was staying at "Grandma's" It has a great street appearance but there seems to be a lacking of small maintenance items. Also be careful when using the hot water; it will scald you if you are not careful. Overall if you are looking for a room, you could probably find one here as it seemed almost empty. I won't be a returning guest.

We like Bed and Breakfast.Posted Aug 11, 2015
They have no breakfast, but breakfast is easily obtained in La Villa. The hotel charges 21.00 to park the car, being Scots this was a shock, but most all inner city holels charge. This does include Valet. The Victorian ambience and antiques are exactly what my wife enjoys, The craftmanship of the carpentry is excellent and enjoyed by we from the pre-plastic eras. We will amke this our "normal" San Antonio hotel. Bill

Like staying in the Tower of TerrorPosted Jul 31, 2015 on Hotels
Cute old hotel that needs to get a lot of things replaced. It can not be called a 4 star hotel. My bed was uncomfortable and the bedding looked really old. The curtains were dirty and torn. They also would not shut. Only the plug by the TV worked. The room was very dark at night. The lights in the bathroom get very hot so be careful. The good things was free wifi, nice bathroom and shower area. TV had lots of Channels. The hotel employees were nice. My suggestion to the hotel would be fix the bedrooms. I suggest replacing beds and bedding, curtains and the headboard with new modern stuff and seeing if you can fix how uneven the floor is. My room was quite slanted. Fixing those would make the stay nice. I say Tower of Terror cause of the decorations and the awesome hotel elevator. Which I loved and could be an interesting way to get people to stay there.

Good placePosted Jul 20, 2015 on Hotels
Overall, the Fairmount is a good hotel but not amazing. The location is really hard to beat! It is very easy to walk to the Alamo and good shopping downtown, even if you are not in-shape. La Villita is literally across the street. The history of the hotel is very interesting but that doesn't quite make-up for the need for updating and renovations. There are two things you really need to know before booking: 1. There is mandatory valet parking. I believe it's $21/day. That is NOT included in the price of the room. 2. It's best to call the hotel to book. If possible, ask for a room in the new part of the building. The staff was GREAT! They were very friendly and prompt with requests for ice, our car, etc. They gave us great recommendations for restaurants and such. The room itself is were the hotel "lost points". It was very clean but a bit dusty. We were in the old part of the building and the floor was obviously not level and it took a bit of getting used to. The drapes were torn, the bathroom could use new wallpaper, and the window had a large crack in it. I'm not sure if we would stay there again. The location and great service might off-set the obvious need for repairs.

Historisk gammelt hotell helt i sentrum av altPosted Jul 17, 2015 on Hotels

Needs to be updated.Posted Jul 15, 2015
Pros: The staff was very helpful and nice. Even upgraded us. Only problem was any upgrade should be to a nicer room so not sure what I would have had.
Cons: updating and cleaning up the hotel.
Location: Location is about 3 to 4 blocks from the river walk. A very comfortable and safe feeling walk.
This will be the last time I stay at the Fairmount. The bathroom had wallpaper peeling everywhere and underneath was black dirty looking stuff. The shower had mold all around it. The glass needed to be replaced. The sofa was so worn I would be embarrassed to have any of my friends or non-friends see it much less sit on it. Before I wrote this review I emailed The Fairmount to give them a chance to respond. No response. So, here I am letting you know I don't believe they have any intention of making any changes. I was disappointed in the star ratings from Expedia also. Not sure I want to trust their ratings from now on.

Older, historic hotelPosted Jul 13, 2015
Within walking distance of the Alamo, the Riverwalk, Villeta Squaire (shops), and array of good restaurants. The hotel itself is an older but elegant building. Our room was roomy and clean. The staff was excellent. We felt we alone in our own mansion.
