Good view of ocean

Pros: The view
Cons: Better staff to deal with and cleanliness of bathrooms.
Drains were clogged and TV did not work. Shower looked like it is cleaned once a month.

Nice hotel close to the ocean

We paid extra for a room with an ocean view and man was it worth it. We had a balcony that overlooked the ocean, the room was very clean and pretty updated compared to most hotels. The ocean is right across the street and is gorgeous, lots of seals live there. Free breakfast only included bagels, pancakes, or cereal basically and there was a parking fee every night which we were unaware of. Other than those two downfalls it was a great stay!

Nice hotel, but a bit older than anticipated.

The location of this hotel is second to none. Walk out your front door, and you are the Children's Pools of La Jolla. Then walk up stairs, and in like two minutes you are in the downtown La Jolla! The only draw back is that this hotel, for the price they charge for a room should have a major make over. New, modern bathrooms, new furniture and new electronics, new a/c and just new fresh look. The single most area of need renovation is the noise that the hotel makes. The plumbing loud, the building (I think due to its age) just makes lots of noises, squeaks and gurgling. Great place for location, but a lot to be desired for age of building and noises. I would love to go back after a renovation.

Upgraded older hotel

Management did best to upgrade old facility - very clean room and premises, nice bath products and bedding. Pool/recreational area looked inviting. Nicely maintained landscaping. Rooftop breakfast area very scenic with lots of lounging spots. But room very tiny and in back of facility along parking. Sidewalks directly outside made room noisy at all hours due to service people, carts, and general foot traffic from elevators, parking lot, rooftop etc. Windows not well insulated. Could not open curtain anyway due to lack of privacy. Maybe suite on front side with ocean view would have made for more pleasant visit.

Fail on the remodel- view and location great

Cons: see above- the list is very long
Location: great for walking everywhere- into town for dinner, to the cove to swim, to the children's pool to watch the seals
We have stayed in this hotel since the mid-90's and have seen it go through many changes over the years. We hadn't been back in 7 years and were looking forward to the remodeling upgrades. The only positive for the remodel is new paint and beds and décor. It was very poorly done- outlets up high on the wall so cords were hanging across- new buffet for coffee maker- no outlet, so had to balance it on the tiny shelf in the bathroom- another fail- shelf so small- the tissue box had to be on the desk in the other room. No fridge and microwave which should be standard in a family hotel. There were still holes in the wall where an outlet had been moved. There are vents in the bathroom and front room for the roof fan which roar on the upper floors closer to the fan- we moved to the 2nd floor the first night because the fan is so loud-- tried to put a towel over it and it was filthy-- so what is being blown into the room? We have loved this motel over the years, it was old and funky and improvements were done- but the new "improvements" are very disappointing. It is a lovely property- pool area still very nice, location can't be beat- the view is the very best--- The prices have also been raised of course-- not worth the price anymore. Overall- disappointing.

The location and view are great. The room smelled of mildew, but the staff was friendly and overall everything seemed very clean.

Good for family but need major upgrades

Pro: View and location are unbeatable. Big nice room with modern decor. Friendly staffs. Fun play area and pool. Nice big bed. Con: The facilities in the room are outdated. No fridge. Old shower. Old outdoor furniture.

Nice, but somewhat dated, close to the beach.

Pros: Close to the beach, very good continental breakfast, nice pool and rooftop seating area.
Had a great time at La Jolla Cove suites. Not the newest hotel, but close to the beach, and reasonably priced compared to other area hotels.

Room very small

Bad experience

Room had no heat or A/C provision. There was no coffee maker in the room even though they said there was one at the time if check-in. When I called the front desk they sent me a broken one. Had to call again then we got a working one. Room was very very small. Lot of money for what you get. Worst than the Days Inn category.
