Good location but nothing more

Posted Nov 20, 2015
Pros: The location is fabulous
Cons: The service needs a giant upgrade. The cleaning needs a giant upgrade. The room needs a closet or an Amoir. You need to be able to hang something up
Location: Balboa park is one block away. So much to do!
I want to start with the positive. The building is beautiful and the location is fabulous being one block from Balboa Park. But the service was awful. Normally you are wowed by the people at a B&B. But the owners are nowhere to be seen. The person in the morning doesn't know what decaf coffee is. The breakfast buffet is for 5 year olds. Frosted Flakes, chocolate muffins, chocolate chip muffins, cinnamon rolls...... There was no closet in our room. Nowhere to hang a thing. The room was not clean. The bedspread had a bunch of stains on it. Would never stay here again.

Charming Victorian Bed & Breakfast

Posted Nov 11, 2015
Pros: Charming property
Cons: Breakfast
The property is beautiful and it' nicely decorated with stained glass windows and beautiful wooden staircase. It's located very close to the San Diego Zoo (about 20 minutes walk) and also close to the harbor (short drive). The staff is very friendly and helpful and the room was charming and comfortable.

It was a private house owned by a rich family, so the decoration is really good. The staff was very nice and helpful. The only disadvantage is that the bathroom is too small.

Good location to Balboa Park and downtown.

Pros: Good location, beautiful woodwork and wonderful outdoor spaces.
Cons: Windows needed washing. More hooks in the rooms or coat rack or possibly a portable hanging rack for clothes would be nice.
Location: Great location within walking distance to Balboa Park and downtown.
We checked into the Inn for a 2 night stay. Our room was the Library room on the first floor. It had a beautiful bathroom and was clean but it was very dark and dreary. The windows looked out onto a very busy road and the windows were in need of cleaning. There is a lot of construction going on in the area but the owners can't help that. The breakfast was just continental but good. The coffee was good. There was no closet in the room. It was an ok stay but I was glad we weren't staying there the entire week. They say it's a non smoking facility but they allow people to smoke on the front porch which is bothersome to people like me who love to sit outside but have allergies to cigarette smoke. The outdoor spaces were beautiful. The Inn has been restored and the woodwork is beautiful.

Pros: Very comfortable, warm, elegant and a convenient, easy walk to Balboa Park. Perfect two night stay.
Cons: Additional staff. Personnel seemed to be over-worked - yet still hospitable.
Location: Balboa Park, city life just a few blocks away.
Loved the history that was included in the beauty of this old - restored - mansion. Staff was very accommodating and gracious. We will return!

Location, location😀

Pros: Location, price, staff
Cons: Coffee was a little too cold.
Location: It's downtown San Diego, what more can you say.
Great 2 day stay. Walking distance to Balboa Park and downtown (1.5mile). Staff were excellent as was the room. Stayed in the Garden room, bright and very comfortable.

Niedlichste Hotel in San Siego

Posted Oct 10, 2015
Das beste Hotel in San Diego. Ein Hotel mit Charm. Ich könnte nur bemängeln, dass die Betten zu weich sind und das Frühstück kann man auch gerne außerhalb essen. Ich würde wieder hier übernachten. Sehr empfehlenswert.

Beautiful place!

Bed and pillows were a little soft for my liking, but everything else was great. This could be labeled as a bed and breakfast since in the morning there is a continental breakfast.

Beautiful B&B, but I'll never stay there again.

Pros: It's a beautiful Victorian mansion
Cons: A staff member should be present at all times. Carriage House needs a new mattress, fresh bedding, carpets cleaned, and the bathroom remolded.
Location: Located close to Balboa Park and Little Italy. Croce' s Portal House is within walking distance...a great jazz bar.
I thought this was going to be a great experience, but was sorely disappointed. The mansion is every bit as beautiful as the pictures show. Unfortunately, the room I booked was not available when I arrived. Instead, they put me up in the detached Carriage House in the back. It looked charming enough, until you stepped inside. I loved the 100 year old furniture, but the mattress looked 100 years old too. There were hugged divots where thousands of people must have slept over the years. The quilt looked hand made (beautiful) but it's so fragile, I bet it hadn't ever been washed. The carpet was disgusting, the toilet seat chipped, and the bathroom grout was mildewed. Nothing charming about this place. I discovered the next morning that the staff attendant forgot to give me a key card for access to the mansion. I had to wait until a guest came down to let me in. As of 7:30am, no breakfast was provided even though the instructions said it would be ready at 7. I had stored a pair of bikes in the shed behind the Carriage House. The attendant said that either he or other staff members would be on premises to unlock the shed whenever I needed access. But no one was there this next morning. There was a sign on the front gate saying they'll be back at noon. That was going to ruin my whole plans to ride our bikes to Balboa Park and Little Italy. Fortunately, I tried using my Carriage House room key to unlock the shed. It worked! Why didn't the attendant know that?
