Stayed at the Estancia for a quick overnight to see a show at La Jolla Playhouse. The grounds are beautiful, the bar was convenient and made delicious drinks, and the room was clean and quiet.

The property was beautiful and truly felt like a retreat. The only downside was that parking was expensive. It was $40 per night.

So it may not be a fair assessment because the property is going through major renovations but we didn’t have the best stay. We were hoping for a relaxed weekend by the pool, but the pool area was closed and going thru a rebuild. I wish we knew this beforehand because we would have switched to another property. We were told we could go to their sister property but it was a 15 minute drive away. Also, the restaurant had a surcharge where we were told by the service staff that it went directly to the property and not to the staff. We will come back, but only when the renovation is done.

Very beautiful hotel. I appreciate the decor. Do not appreciate the $40 a day parking though. Seems excessive and there is no cheaper alternative as it's located on a main road with no available street parking.

Lost my wallet and they didn't return it
We really like the property and have stayed here many times. However I had a situation recently that was frustrating. I left my wallet at the lobby desk since it was dark in the room so I didn't see it. The lobby is being remodeled so it is in a temporary room. They never called me to tell me that they had it even though my id was in the wallet and they knew it must belong to a guest. To make matters worse, I called to see if they had found it and they said they hadn't even though it was in a drawer next to the check in desk. Luckily I had an air tag in my wallet or I would not have been able to get on the plane without an ID. In addition, the pool area is being remodeled and it is very difficult to find the gym since it is next to the pool.

Had a horrible experience here. Most of the amenities (pool area) was closed off which they did not notify anyone ahead of time of this. The check in staff was very unhelpful and unprofessional. All of the water in our room was cut off for multiple hours, with no warning. I have been trying to reach their manager and have had zero response back.

I booked this hotel the evening prior to my reservation, and at no point during the booking process was I alerted to a lack of running water which would be taking place the entire night of my reservation. No one on premise was able to resolve for me, so I was given two options: stay at the hotel without running water or book another hotel without getting my money back at Estancia--since (conveniently) no one at the hotel was able to approve my refund.

The staff was nice and helpful. Hotel is nice and quiet. The only thing I did not like, is having to book a spa pass through another party. My daughter unexpectedly got sick and so we had to leave the next day. I tried to cancel my spa pass and get my money back, they said I had to reach out to the party I booked with. Unfortunately the cancellation window had closed and I was unable to get my refund. I just don’t understand why the spa doesn’t have control of their on finances and why they can’t be in control of giving refunds. Didn’t like that at all.

Average La Jolla Stay
Overall, it was an ok stay for 1 night. The hotel is undergoing a renovation or “enhancements” as the hotel said, which is fine but I would have preferred to know that prior to spending the money to stay there. The nightly price was more expensive than it should have been given the on going renovations. Not sure if the pool was being renovated but we were told it was closed for the season (it’s still 75-80 degrees during the day). Our room backed up to another property next door that was under construction as well. Jack hammering, drills and construction started at 7:45am sharp on Friday morning. We got room service shortly after checking in. The food was average typical hotel quality and overpriced for what you got.

A lovely property, beautifully maintained, excellent staff interactions. The weirdness - major renos ongoing, completely inadequate signage - people wandering about confused. On arrival, the entry to the area where the temporary lobby is was chained off. How to fit this in to what is a first class effort in so many ways? Come on, management, think like a guest. We will return, regardless.

I would stay here again. It is definitely upscale and a beautiful property. The only suggestion that I have is that it may be noisy if your room faces the courtyard and make sure your room is further from the door since you can hear it closing at night and it is disturbing

We arrived after check in time around 4:30 pm and were told the rooms are not ready. Later we found there was wedding in the hotel and they delayed everybody’s check in till wedding is over. The receptionist were rude, not accommodating. When asked about how they are making it up to make us wait and not get in the room they promised $50 refund which never happened. I never ever go back to this hotel and do not recommend it at all.

I had a wonderful stay here. The room was ready early and was a beautiful, clean room with a view of the garden. The grounds of the hotel were well kept and the front desk provided a detailed map. The restaurant on site for brunch was delicious we went multiple times and the cafe off the lobby was great for quick snack, coffees, and pastries. The hotel is located on beautiful grounds that doesn't feel like you are right across from a college campus at all. Only a 15 minute drive from La Jolla village and even closer to the cove & shores beach. Would recommend 10/10.

Great place for family and friends! Me and girl friends went to this hotel for a weekend getaway and it was perfect! Very clean and renovated room and beautiful garden and resting places everywhere to just sit around and have a coffee or read a book. The restaurant inside was excellent too. Definitely revisit this place!
