A great place to stay

Location: The hotel is steps to the coast where you can enjoy watching waves, seals or the sunset. There are upscale dining options a block away.
We have stayed at the Grande Colonial several times. The location can't be beat -- ocean views, steps to the coast and walking distance to La Jolla shops and restaurants. The rooms are comfortable and staff (and especially the valets) are friendly and helpful.

Cons: Staff too chatty at entrance.
We love this hotel; charming, close to shops and restaurants. A bit of old world elegance.

location, location, location

Downtown La Jolla with views. Was perfect location and hotel for our 25th anniversary get-away. Arrived a little early, so checked our bags and strolled around the shopping district (i.e. across the street). Room was perfect with a great view of the Children's pool (currently off limits to swimmers but full of sea lions enjoying the sand and surf). Staff was attentive and friendly. Hotel combines classical feel with modern amenities.

Great Location

Lovely old hotel nicely refurbished. Block to ocean some rooms have views. Excellent staff. Short walk to restaurants. Small but pretty pool.

Beautifully restored colonial

This was a short overnight stay. so I didn't take full use of all the amenities. What I did experience was very engaging and helpful staff, and a carefully and beautifully decorated hotel. My room was warm and inviting and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel location is in the heart of La Jolla and walkable to anything you to do in the Village area. Great restaurants are plenty. I marked it as 4 stars only because of the lack of self parking. They have no on premises lot. You either have to street park - 2hr parking 8am-6pm, find a public parking garage, or valet. They're valet is $10 for 0-4 hrs or $30 for longer. Factor that in when assessing your nightly cost.

This hotel is centrally located in La Jolla. Ocean views from some rooms. The hotel Is older but they've updated it and it's very clean. The pool is small but it's just perfect. Our two boys had a blast.

great historic Hotel in perfect shape and location

Pros: Historic place. Clean. Great location. Good pricing.
Location: La Jolla is an upscale vacation destination with beautiful vistas, Sea lions, beach, stores, restaurants, bars etc.
got an upgrade to a "sea-view" suite. Instead of choosing a hotel near San Doego Convention Center I decided to stay in this hotel in La Jolla. Its only 25 minutes to San Diego Downtown. And it feels like being on vacation when staying in La Jolla. Beach, Restaurants, shops, all in walking distance. Hotel is upscale for less money than any waterfront hotels in San Diego.

Great location

The hotel is in a great location. Was not blown away at check in, the 2 that were standing front desk had very little personality. Our room was in a noisy location and when we got in the decorative pillows were stuffed On the corner on the floor and one of the lamp shades was just about falling off the lamp. Just thought it looked a little sloppy. The end of the trip made up for it. We were offered complementary breakfast and it was very delicious. The staff that checked us out were kind and courteous. Wish our stay was longer because the pool/restaurant area looked very nice.
