Welcome to the Old Marriott!

Posted Nov 10, 2016
Pros: Location
Cons: Room description are misleading
Location: Eat outside the Del-you will have better food. Also, check out the Emerald C Gallery.
We booked an ocean view room, not realizing it would in another building and not actually located in the Hotel del Coronado building. Our room was located in an old Marriott building near the hotel. The room was spacious, but did have a lot of dust in the bathroom, which also didn't have a fan making it VERY hot after showering. The shower curtain also had mold on it. The beds were comfortable. The dining at the hotel is very expensive and we spent $25 on a burger at the Sun Deck, which came with frozen fries and very little flavor for the burger. The food is pretty disappointing. Count on $20 at least for each entrée, and alcohol drinks at $20 a piece. There were many events going on while we were there making it a great place for people watching. All the staff were very nice, in fact, everyone on Coronado was very nice.

3 days in Del Coronado - a pricey experience

Posted Oct 22, 2016
Pros: Location, Victorian building and history....most memorable
Cons: Bedrooms in Ocean tower.......badly need improvement. Prices for food and bar slightly over the top but to be expected.
Location: Watch the sun go down at the beach bar...and always walk get your breakfast in Coronado 300 metres away
Brilliant location, excellent wow factor but only for the first day. After that you start to look at the price versus what you are enjoying. Rooms in Ocean tower are comfortable but tired and in need of a refurbishment. We paid $600 per night for a room that was just average.....after the wow of the resort and location had sunk in you felt overcharged. My recommendation......go once for a very short stay but leave it at that.

Needs to be refreshed and reorganized

Posted Oct 16, 2016
We LOVED the clean sandy beach but I was a little disappointed in my first stay at the famous Del ! The price we paid ( $1,500.+ for the two night plus an additional $800. For small incidentals), was ridiculous for the quality and service that this hotel delivered . The hotel staff was nice but extremely slow and delayed. The food was average. The carpet in the room was filthy ! The hotel changed our room and told us someone was on there way up to move us ..... This process took over 90 minutes and 4 phone calls . Love the location , LOVED Moo Time ! Loved the firepit! Hotel and hotels staff needs work !

Old and needs updating

Posted Oct 12, 2016
The hotel (common areas/hallways) needs a major renovation and has not been well kept for a historic landmark. The room had a moldy smell but was clean and bathroom seems to have been updated.

Gorgeous setting, mediocre hotel

Posted Oct 7, 2016
Location: Beachfront, pools, spa, shopping on site
It's hard to imagine a more beautiful hotel or better kept grounds or a more breathtaking setting. It's a shame that the service is so disappointing. They are understaffed for one thing. Valet parking was confusing and unorganized. There were lines at registration. Check-in isn't until 4 because the rooms weren't ready. All those problems could be cured by hiring more staff. The manager was wonderful when undertrained staff were insensitive to ADA issues. Room was a little shabby; there were dirty glasses in the bathroom. It didn't live up to the facade of the hotel. Food at breakfast buffet was excellent. It's worth putting up with all of this for the magnificent view. Glad we went, but I'd go somewhere else next time I'm in the area.

not a happy 75th birthday for Fernando

Posted Sep 23, 2016
Pros: The food in the restaurant and room service was tasty and well portioned for the price paid.
Cons: Put soaps in the room, one for the sink and another for the shower. WE have stayed a 5, 4 and 3 star hotels and they all have had nice soaps.
My wife and I decided to celebrate my 75th birthday at this hotel. Upon checking into our room we found only one small bar of soap for the sink and shower (for two persons?). We located a housekeeper on the floor and asked for more soap of which two more small bars were delivered. Next day when we returned to our room for the evening, we discovered that the room had been cleaned but did not leave soap for sink or shower, again I tracked a housekeeper and asked for more soap, and she told me that they are not given soap for the rooms and showed me her service cart full of everything except soap. I had to call the housekeeping department and request soaps, 10 minutes later 2 more small bars were hand delivered. For a 5 star hotel that does not supply soaps in the rooms it is a sin! The mini fridge in the room, was set to freezing and I left a glass of milk for my next morning medicines and next morning I found the milk totally frozen as well as the water bottles that we had put in there the previous night. We had to call for service and a maintenance tech came in later in the evening and did find that the unit was set to freezing (the controls for temperature are in the rear of the unit).

AHHHHH....THE DEL

Posted Sep 11, 2016
Pros: All employees give 5* service
Cons: Not a thing..."don't fix it, if it ain't broke"
Location: Perfect Beach Resort...you don't ever have to leave...nearby shopping and restaurants...water sports
Celebrating my birthday at a 5* beach resort is the best idea ever...Corey at outside check-in gave us an upgrade overlooking the pool, beach and Sheerwater Restaurant...what a marvelous view...that was just the beginning of a family memory that has us planning my next birthday...Sheerwater Restaurant is Fabulous .... Smores on the beach was "to die for"....being set up on the beach by Willie daily in lavish lounge chairs ...it all made me feel so catered to

Bathroom is tiny. The noise insolation is terrible

Posted Sep 6, 2016
The del Coronado is close to beach. It might be of great history. However, not worth more than $605 per day plus $40 for simple breakfast and plus more than $30 for parking per day. After we check in , we were told our room at ocean tower. No one showed us how to get there. It took more than 15 minutes to find the room after we went through a crowded courtyard. The hotel is too old. Bathroom is tiny. The noise insolation is terrible.
