Very nice hotel, central location, some downsides.

Posted Nov 30, 2016
Pros: Spa amenities were nice. Very modern clean looking. Dog policies are amazing, will stay with Kimpton if possible in the future. Let us check in early
Cons: No hot tub. Loud construction as early as 8am (could be heard in room).
Location: central location. Walkable to many restaurants. Shopping 1 block away. Uber/Lyft is $5-10 ride to most places. 1 mile from Marina and cute shoppes.
My wife and I traveled to San Diego over the Thanksgiving break for a short vacation getaway. After much research, we landed on Kimpton hotels because we wanted to bring our dog with us, and this chain has amazing dog policies. We decided on the Palomar over the Solamar because we thought the location would be more preferable - (In hindsight, both locations are fine, and we might stay at Solamar next time). Overall the hotel was very nice, well kept, hotel staff were amazing and friendly, rooms were clean and modern. However there were a few downsides. 1) They had construction going on in their restaurant. When we checked in they were using a jackhammer, and the noise was so loud we could barely hear the host. It also really scared our dog. We heard his jackhammering in our room all the way up on the 11th floor! This happened several times during our stay. We also could not use the restaurant during this time. Totally an unacceptable level of noise and discomfort. 2) There is no hot tub at this location. This was a huge bummer. 3) The location in the center of Gaslamp Quarter has a ton of homeless people. They were mostly harmless, but often would yell profanities at us, or ask for money, etc. Felt a little unsafe at night sometimes. Overall we would visit Kimpton hotels again, but this location just needs a little time to finish renovations. Probably wouldn't stay here without the hot tub either since we use that a lot on vacation. Make sure you hit up wine hour on the roof

Dear Aaron You provided great feedback and we thank you for taking the time to do so. We so appreciate you choosing the Palomar for your accommodations and for the kind notes about the staff! I'm sorry to hear that the renovation of the restaurant caused an inconvenience and frightened your dog. We love having our four-legged guests visit the hotel and want them to be comfy too. Thank you for your loyalty to Kimpton and if we can address your concerns personally, please do let us know. Sincerely,

Great location downtown. Clean rooms and nice facilities, but way too expensive for what you get. The checkin staff were waaay too obnoxious. Will not be staying here next time in SD. :(

Convenient location in downtown San Diego

Hotel is pretty hip, and a block or so away from the Gaslamp quarter. Complimentary use of the hotel bikes included in stay (first come, first served). Enjoyable way to see the city and ferry to Coronado.

The hotel has seen better days...

Posted Nov 21, 2016
We have stayed at several Kimpton hotels and they have always been excellent! I must say that I reserved this one by mistake. I actually wanted to stay at its sister hotel near the convention center (much, much better hotel; we stayed there before). The hotel needs a face lift and they need to get rid of the sewer smell in the reception. Sub standard breakfast... The hotel is also in a shady side of town with lots of noisy late nigh bars. However, the stuff is attentive, and very friendly.

Dear Lars I am sorry for any inconvenience caused by the renovation of our restaurant. We worked to make alternate arrangements as needed for guests and regret that your stay was affected by the construction process. It our hope that you will give us another try and visit the hotel after our new restaurant opens and give us the opportunity to serve you again. Sincerely,
