Very nice hotel, central location, some downsides.

My wife and I traveled to San Diego over the Thanksgiving break for a short vacation getaway. After much research, we landed on Kimpton hotels because we wanted to bring our dog with us, and this chain has amazing dog policies. We decided on the Palomar over the Solamar because we thought the location would be more preferable - (In hindsight, both locations are fine, and we might stay at Solamar next time). Overall the hotel was very nice, well kept, hotel staff were amazing and friendly, rooms were clean and modern. However there were a few downsides. 1) They had construction going on in their restaurant. When we checked in they were using a jackhammer, and the noise was so loud we could barely hear the host. It also really scared our dog. We heard his jackhammering in our room all the way up on the 11th floor! This happened several times during our stay. We also could not use the restaurant during this time. Totally an unacceptable level of noise and discomfort. 2) There is no hot tub at this location. This was a huge bummer. 3) The location in the center of Gaslamp Quarter has a ton of homeless people. They were mostly harmless, but often would yell profanities at us, or ask for money, etc. Felt a little unsafe at night sometimes.
Overall we would visit Kimpton hotels again, but this location just needs a little time to finish renovations. Probably wouldn't stay here without the hot tub either since we use that a lot on vacation. Make sure you hit up wine hour on the roof

You provided great feedback and we thank you for taking the time to do so. We so appreciate you choosing the Palomar for your accommodations and for the kind notes about the staff!
I'm sorry to hear that the renovation of the restaurant caused an inconvenience and frightened your dog. We love having our four-legged guests visit the hotel and want them to be comfy too.
Thank you for your loyalty to Kimpton and if we can address your concerns personally, please do let us know.
