Pros: Location and the pool area - nice chairs!
Cons: Expensive valet parking
Location: The beach & park and really close. Shopping and lot's of restaurants.
Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Katie at the front desk - it was our anniversary and we arrived in our room to find champagne and choclolates.

Tourist Trap for sure

Posted Aug 29, 2015
Pros: very little.
Cons: Windows are old- no noise insulation. Sofa bed mattress was worse than any other ever used. Lots of old finishes- Lobby powder womens rm was messy.
Location: Is a Downtown location, with all the noise and congestion implied. bike riding;dull / treacherous no bike path /lanes.
I picked this hotel for a family getaway. I called the hotel to confirm accessibility "to the beach" for my 86 year old mom, who uses a cane, and sometimes a portable chair for longer outings. I was told by a front desk staff member, that it was just an elevator and a 5 minute path to the beach. Hardly, an honest answer. The route was so steep and convoluted, it was not worth attempting with her. In addition, there is only a rocky cliff type beach close to this hotel. If I had a better idea of the terrain, I would have canceled. We paid a lot for a 2 rm. suite and the sofa bed was unmanageable, I mean it was downright awful. They have attempted updates, but no true gut and remodel has been done;you are looking at rust, layers of old paint. I complained to the concierge about the "beach misinformation". We rented bikes thru the concierge, and they were 1 1/2 hrs.late dropping off the bikes;the helmets were disgusting. We ate in the"Med"- their well known restaurant. So expensive, for pretty average food. Ever have that experience of some foodie chef naming food as though it's special- and it's not? I ordered "Chocolate sin" for dessert and it was bland- How can chocolate be bland!? the Cafe "La Rue" is a better choice, their staff was attentive. The location on the main Drag is a DRAG- congested, noisy, dirty- really, neither the town or Hotel feel like a "jewel" anymore. Tourist Trap for sure

They've assigned me a small room in the corner with no views or enough space. The window looks out to a parking lot, and the TV doesn't even face towards the bed. The type of room has extremely low standards and it's not even listed on their website. The most terrible thing was a huge amount of water leaking down from the ceiling, right above my bed. Paid almost $400 for the night and this is what I got.

Great location, elegant hotel

La Valencia is a beautiful hotel in the heart of La Jolla. The service was excellent. The accommodations were perfect for our family's stay in San Diego.

Great hotel

We've stayed in many hotels...and the customer service here was simply the best ever..... even as we drove off the valet ran after us to give us cold water bottles...so from the moment we checked in until we were out of sight.. the staff was doing something to make our stay...one to be envied by royalty.

Posted Jun 22, 2015
Pros: building, location, staff, restaurant, pool
Location: right next to the La Jolla cove. couldn't be better situated. note: not in downtown San Diego
location, location, location. From this hotel you can walk to the famous La Jolla cove in 2 minutes - without having to smell the stink from the seals while you're eating! beautiful place. I can't wait to go back
