Great location and excellent service!

Posted May 29, 2016
Stayed here for a week and was very impressed with the overall hotel cleanliness, service and staff. Enjoyed the use of the facilities including gym and pool. The best thing about the hotel is its location, situated perfectly in the Gaslamp Quarter with easy access to bars, restaurants etc. The Convention Centre was only a 10-15 minute walk away. Would definitely stay here again.

Hôtel bien situé avec un décor moderne. Certaines chambres offrent une vue à couper le souffle. Personnel très attentionné. Insonorisation sous optimale.

Nice hotel, bad neighborhood

Posted May 17, 2016
Pros: Rooms were nice
Cons: Valet pricing is ridiculous.
Location: location is trashy and filthy. Lots of homeless people, it smells, and the streets are dirty.
The hotel is really nice. The rooms are well done, modern, up to date, and clean. However, the neighborhood it is set in is terrible. If you have a room on the street side assume it will be noisy. There are several really trashy bars opposite from the hotel, and lots of screaming at night. As soon as you walk out of the hotel the street is littered with homeless people. The streets are filthy. Last, to pay $42/night to valet your car is just outrageous when you stay at the hotel. Maybe $20 is reasonable, but $42!!

Great hotel in the heart of the gas lamp

Posted May 17, 2016
Pros: Good location
Cons: Better noise proofing
Location: Very walkable and light rail is right below
Nice boutique hotel in the heart of the gas lamp. Room on the 20th floor. My only complaint was the mild amount of noise from the light rail.

Dear Beau Thank you for your nice compliment-we appreciate your kind comments. The City has a lot of trolley lines and public transportation in the San Diego area, which is a plus for getting around the City. Having said that, I'm sorry to hear that you were inconvenienced by the noise. We do hope you will keep Kimpton Hotels in mind as your travels take you to various cities. Sincerely,

Great location, vacation

Posted Apr 15, 2016
The service here was magnificent. By far the best hotel I stayed in during my California vacation. Service was great in terms of supplying the customers demand and needs. Close to all sorts of neat attractions and will definitely be back here at this location!

Location: Gaslamp District was a blast and Seaport Village was beautiful
First of all take the Amtrak train into San Diego because your trip starts on the train. The Palomar Hotel is in the Gaslamp District. Every place in the Gaslamp District we were able to walk to because you are on the street where everything is happening. There is a great bar in the hotel with good food. We had a corner balcony room with a view that wouldn't quit. The hotel hosted a wine hour at 5pm which was lovely.

Dear Susan What a great way to get to San Diego and take in the sites on the way. We're happy to hear that our central location worked well for you to take in the Gaslamp area and take in the local "happenings". Thank you for the kind comments about the hotel, your dining experience and our the social hour that is hosted in the lobby. We hope you will be back for another visit soon. Sincerely,

Pleasantly surprised by extraordinary value!

Posted Mar 29, 2016
I split my stay between two hotels in the Gaslamp Quarter. Palomar was my first stop. Yes, the rooms are on the small side, but the building is older, it is to be expected. The beds are luxuriously comfy, water pressure & temp ideal and reliable. I appreciate their lenient pet policy, but have an allergy. It was no big deal, they have a pet free floor. All I had to do was ask. :) Anything I needed was just a phone call away, and cheerfully provided by exceptional staff. Cocktails at Saltbox are artfully crafted and well-balanced. Drinks are priced reasonably! Even the room minibar items weren't price-gouged. The comprehensive selection of all spirits communicates that the hotel pays great attention to detail. Wine reception every evening was very much appreciated...even though the free wine was a step above cardboardeaux. (Just made me head to the bar for a chaser.) Only true drawback was the hall noise, I kept thinking my own door was opening and closing (scary). Room got a little dusty, but it may have been that I was at the end of the corridor? I would stay here again without hesistation, and by extension, any Kimpton property. $50/nightly deposit very reasonable for the location, although plenty of nearby parking is available if you wish to avoid the $42/day valet charge.
