Great location, friendly staff

Posted Jan 11, 2017
Pros: Convenience, staff, location
Cons: They could maintain common area cleanliness a little...pay attention to details...
Location: The harbor, the Midway, 5th street!!!
This was a great hotel...convenient location with a friendly staff. Rooms comfortable. It is an older hotel so know that going in however it's been well maintained. They warn you that it is located in a "party" district so don't complain about noise but we didn't have any issues with noise. Would definitely recommend.

CENTER OF NIGHTLIFE

Posted Jan 9, 2017
Interesting little hotel with great location. Has an old time theme to it and staff is great. Rooms are a bit small and walls are thin but not too big of a deal for me. Parking is impossible but hotel offers valet parking for the meaty price of 27 dollars a night

Amazing location in the heart of gas lamp. Great staff but the hotel was old and needed updating.

great location in san diego

Posted Jan 6, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: invest in central HVAC
Location: Eating, drinking, light rail station, harbor, etc.
It is an old hotel as in over 100 years old, but still in good condition. Just wish the hotel had central air and heat. The window units are not quiet. The elevators were the fastest in the world in 1913, not so in 2017. Ride them thinking about what life was like 100 years ago. What is great is the location, in the heart of the Gas Lamp district, THE entertainment district of San Diego, near the harbor and the airport (10 USD with Super Shuttle).

Right in the heart of Gaslamp

Posted Dec 30, 2016
Pros: It's a Ramada, but still retains all of the old fixtures and charm of the St. James. Elevators still same as in 1914. Great rooftop patio.
Location: Really convenient to everything we wanted to do, good transit access.
One block from the busiest and most fun street, 5th, walk to tons of clubs, bars, restaurants, two blocks from Horton, very interesting shopping centre and square that is the place for many outdoor events. The battle of the bands was there for the big football game. The rooms all had 2 double beds, in two adjoining rooms, good for families (put the kids in the other room!)

Perfect location in Gaslamp

Posted Dec 16, 2016
The hotel is on the older side so it's nothing fancy. The staff is friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. The elevator is something else so be prepared. It's in a great location, walking distance to many great bars, clubs, restaurants. Would stay again

Noisy Room

Posted Dec 15, 2016
book online got a good deal, but they stuck me in a room over looking the air and heating equipment that banged, rattled and shook all night. Cheap room must = stick him in the torture noise room! Also Single pane windows were great also so that you could hear everything going on down on the street the two homeless people's argument was the high light of my night.

Rustic and convenient

Posted Dec 11, 2016
A cozy, rustic, fairly priced hotel in the heart of SD Gaslamp. Great food, live music and bars seconds from your door. Train is 4 short blocks away. Enjoyed a cigar on the classic rooftop with beautiful downtown views and a vintage St. James marquee.

Excellent location.

Posted Nov 25, 2016
Pros: Bed and location
Cons: Bathroom could be remodeled a bit. An additional 6 inches into the room itself would make all the difference. They provide earplugs for free.
Location: Gaslamp and the other hotels where meetings are held, the airport...the location could not be much better.
Incredible potential of this hotel. Excellent bed, but the bathroom could be remodeled a bit. An additional 6 inches into the room itself would make all the difference.
