"First floor room with bayside view and patio."
Enjoyed a midweek stay with family on first floor with bay view and patio. Hotel is older so rooms are smaller, but updated. Also not as clean as I would expect if advertised as a 4 star and a Hilton. I appreciated how quiet the air conditioner/heater was. There were many activities listed for weekenders to enjoy however, they are not available midweek. We were surprised as the hotel seemed to be close to capacity. Check in/out took less than five minutes. Had a great drink at the bar with nice/quiet service. This would probably be best for a weekend or during the summer with a family. Pool area and kids area seemed well maintained.

I had a chance to see security service in action. My phone went in the pool with me this weekend. Some guy decided it would be funny to sneak up behind a total stranger and vault him in the pool from behind. My wife and I had just finished dinner at the Red Marlin restaurant and were casually walking past the pools talking about how perfect our getaway weekend was turning out. I was fully clothed when the incident occurred. Who does that sort of thing? Life has many teachers. Security was able to review the surveillance tapes of the incident and identified the person as being a resident at the hotel. Security filed a full report and even accommodated my request to press charges. The police arrived and created an incident number after hearing my story. I decided to drop the charges. The hotel sent up a complimentary cheese and meat sampler platter with a bottle of wine.

"A Christmas Zoo"
We have visited the Del Coronado a few times before and always wanted to stay. All I can say is stay away from the hotel at Christmas. The public areas (lobby, restaurants, bars) are wall to wall tourists. The rooms we stayed in were nice and clean but noisy. However, we could not get a seat or table in any of the hotels facilities during the three days we stayed there. The main bar looks very attractive but was packed with noisy families and kids running around all over the place.

"Hotel ok for overnight"
The rooms are spacious. Probably to allow for golf clubs, etc. We checked in around 8:30 pm after a drive in from Los Angeles. The front desk staff person was friendly and asked if we've stayed with them before. We replied no and she then told us how to get to our room, what time the restaurant closed and opened and that was it. Although we weren't playing golf there (we were in the area for another reason and the hotel was convenient) she never even inquired or told us about any of the amenities of a golfing experience. Maybe there aren't any?

Best and Worst Times to Visit San Diego

Some say it’s always 70 F and sunny in San Diego. While this coastal city does boast very comfortable temperatures year round, the area cools down a bit during the winter, especially at night. The winter months also see more rain than the rest of the year, but it usually doesn’t sprinkle for more than a day or two at a time.

At the beach, the temperatures are slightly cooler than inland, even during the summer months. Also down at the beach, during late spring the marine layer sometimes causes fog to roll in, which has led the locals to nickname the months May Gray and June Gloom. Although the fog usually burns off by the afternoon, avoid this time of year if you’re looking to soak up the California sunshine all day long.

The summertime is bright and sunny with temperatures hovering around the 70s and 80s F. However, because the kids are out of school and the weather is perfect for a day at the beach, crowds tend to take over this SoCal spot, particularly from June through August. Consider visiting during September or early October when the tourists have left but the beach weather is still lingering.

    Things to Do

Take advantage of the pleasant weather and spend some time outdoors. Head to La Jolla Cove, and watch the seals and sea lions basking on the rocks, or mosey through the gardens and museums of Balboa Park. While you’re in town, take surf lessons at Pacific Beach, or spend the afternoon picnicking at Mission Bay. If you’re in the mood for some hiking, hit the coastal trails at Torrey Pines or climb Cowles Mountain for sweeping views of the city.

After soaking up all that sunshine, take some time to get know San Diego’s history and culture. Begin your adventures in the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Considered the birthplace of San Diego, this site is home to the city’s first courthouse and public school house, along with adobe houses and other artifacts and vintage structures. Then visit the Presidio of San Diego, which dates back to 1769, and take a tour of the William Heath Davis House in the Gaslamp Quarter. After a day of exploration, rest up at one of the top resorts in or near San Diego.
