This was a great value for a Union Square hotel. Cheaper than most (if not all) hotels in the area, very comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Definitely not the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in but well worth the price.

Lovely hotel close to many attractions

Pros: location & the vibe
Cons: rooms could be a little more renovated but its not bad
I loved staying here! the hotel is very chic and relaxing. our room was surprisingly spacious and was styled nicely. Its in a great location near markets and close to polk street, which has a lot of bars and fun times! The staff is nice and laid back which made our trip less stressful! The maids are great too :) I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone! loved my stay :)

Great location, lots of character

My boyfriend and I stayed here Jan 12-16 2017 for a weekend getaway. It was conveniently located a short walk ( partly uphill) (approx 15 min) from the Powell St. Bart station where we arrived from the airport, and only half a block from the Powell St, cable car stop; a block and a half from the entrance to China Town, a few blocks from Union Square and a large mall, and surrounded by lots of places to eat, shop, and wander around. The lobby was very cozy with comfy seating and a fire, and they served free wine nightly from 5-6pm. The staff was friendly and helpful to offer suggestions and directions. The hotel is quite old, and the room we had was a bit small, but it was comfortable and relatively up to date while still feeling 'old fashioned'. The bathroom was small as well, but was decent and clean. Our shower rod was installed well inside the diameter of the tub in order to fit around a window that did not allow for proper shower rod placement, so showering seemed a little tight, but to me it was part of the old fashioned feel....they didn't shower in those days, they bathed. I have read some reviews complaining about the musty smell...it has the smell of an old building because it IS an old building. It in no way smells BAD...it just smells old. I didn't mind that at all, it is more important to me that it is clean, and it was. Overall a good experience, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes hotels with character, and who wants to be able to get around via ca

Needs thicker windows

The room was great we had a street view, but could hear everything from people talking to car alarms going off. The windows just need to be a little thicker and that would solve the problem, other than that the location was great.

Okay hotel, would not stay again

The room we received was much smaller and dingier than the one pictured. I could hear everything the people in the room above us were doing and anyone walking or talking in the hallway. Parking says you have the option to self park for $13 less but the garage is basically set up just as a valet. We paid extra to have breakfast included so we wouldn't have to worry about that, but all it included was fruit, toast, and coffee. It's in downtown SF so expect a lot of noise overnight and early in the morning, with horns honking and garbage trucks, but if you're a deep sleeper it might not bother you. It was in a good location for walking to places for dinner and shopping, as it is only about 2-3 blocks from union square.

Dear Mandi: Thank you for the recent feedback on our hotel. Our hotel and your stay should have been quiet particularly if you were staying away from street noise. Unfortunately as noted our parking fees are $40 to $52 a day now as Parking in San Francisco is very expensive with access to a local private garage to secure ones vehicle. I am happy you found our location to be good and our staff are always on site where if noise from guests ever become an issue please ask our desk in the future to quiet them down. minor issues fair price

The baseboard heater was too small to keep the room warm. The tv remote was not fully functional and there was only one bathrobe. It was still a good price for a one night stay.

Great boutique hotel, we walk a lot so the location was perfect for us. Room very comfortable, wine in the afternoon was a great way of socialising with other guests.

It's ok, but needs some work done

Location: Great place to stay for location
Although I got an email asking if I wanted to change rooms, I didn't find necessary. The rooms are ok, but some outlets were damage, the paint on the bathroom wall was damaged as well. The mirrors are old and tore with stains. In the hallway you could smell marihuana, perhaps coming from other rooms. The place is perfectly located though.
