Quite hotel in the center of the city

Posted Dec 8, 2016
Pros: bed was very comfortable and was able to use my phone with the bluetooth enabled alarm clock. Chair in room was very modern yet comfortable to use.
Location: Center of city and easy to grab a bus nearby. Very good Ramen nearby.
was pleased to have been able to check in early, got the view i requested and was given good directions to my first destination. the hotel had ny times papers in the morning. Was a little miffed when i checked that the agent did not have any change to break a hundred that i wanted to break, but overall had a very good experience during my stay and would stay their again if ever in frisco again.

Thanks so much, Diego! We'll have to make sure we keep our stock of change for big bills up, though I'm so happy that was the one issue. It's great to know that you were so comfortable in the room and a happy camper overall!

Overpriced hotel in San Francisco's Japantown

Posted Dec 3, 2016
The hotel was not as crisp as other Kimpton hotels I've visited and I was disappointed. Valet was $50 per night and valet driver was frequently MIA. Our first room reeked of weed, so they moved us to a room where the heater didn't work, so they moved us to another room (on a 3 night stay) where the cleaning staff replaced a Clean comforter with a dirty one. Both nights the rooms were not consistently prepared and we had to go down to the lobby to request hand towels. Would have checked out but had prepaid thru Expedia and I didn't want the hassle of fussing to have the money returned. This hotel is lackluster at best. There are much better boutique hotel in the area.

Great small hotel, but a bit quirky.

Posted Dec 1, 2016
Pros: Staff, room decor, location
Cons: $55. onsite valet parking is really unnecessary, and detracts from the please of staying with you.
This is our 3rd stay at the Kimpton Buchanan and we enjoy coming there. The staff is helpful. The lobby decor seems to change over time, but is always interesting. They have wine in the lobby 5 - 6 each day, which is a very congenial time. The room furnishings are not conventional hotel. It is interesting and nice, and a bit different This stay we were cursed, it seems. One night no soap; one night had a screeching ventilation fan; one day the room was not made up; one night when the screeching fan returned, we had a choice of no ventilation/heat or change rooms, which we did. If we didn't enjoy the hotel so much, I would have left a bad review. I trust they will get on top of these operational issues. The location is perfect. Across from Japantown, which has bountiful restaurants, shops, concourses, etc. Within walking distance of downtown areas and attractions and parks. Not too much traffic or noise. They have bikes for guests to use. Only one major complaint. They have parking adjacent to the hotel, which we paid for in the past. This year, they have contracted with a valet parking operation, who parks the cars within the hotel lot anyway. But the price of parking is $55. a night, which is almost twice the cost of the car rental. Yes, it's in the city, but that's a downtown price. We found a parking area about a mile away, but felt better than feeling ripped off. Hey Kimpton: Loose the valet and drop the rates, please.

Hi, ebag, and thanks for the props on the staff, room decor, and location. We are going to be evaluating the valet parking situation. As I wrote earlier, we intended that bringing them in would help make sure there was always ample room in the garage, though with overflow available just a block away at Japan Center, perhaps it is time to revert to the prior system. We don't want our efforts to backfire! I will continue to collect guest feedback about the service over the next 2-3 days. Thank you!

We rolled the dice and won!

Posted Nov 20, 2016
We decided to kick off our road trip early in the AM by crossing the Golden Gatr Bridge. We rolled the dice and found a hotel to stay at the night before, but wanted to get something close. This was considerably cheap by any city's standards, not just SF. 150 for a two queen room. Not only was the room affordable, close to the location we wanted, extremely clean, AND in a nice area.... the room was not small! Typically rooms anywhere in SF, even peoples apartments, are tiny. This room was like a "normal" size hotel room. Plenty of room to walk and lay out bags.... the city is so small, you cant really be "too far" from anything. We visit the city regularly, and we found the Hotel we will be staying at from now on.

Thanks so much, Cristina! Since we here at Japantown/Pacific Heights, we are also offering sake at our nightly wine hour if you want to try that, too!. It is great to hear the staff left a lasting impression, I'll let them know :).

Great customer service

Posted Oct 24, 2016
Pros: We booked a king bed with a patio, but when we checked in they gave us a queen standard room. We were disappointed to learn that they could not give us the patio due to repairs. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make it up to us. They are amazing. There is hosted happy hour and they even brought us a bottle of champagne and chocolates for our anniversary.
Cons: The bed was very squeaky and noisy anytime we moved at all.
Location: There are so many great Japanese restaurants and fun shops across the street in the mall and there is a Japanese grocery store across from the hotel.

Nice location. Close to area attractions

Posted Oct 21, 2016
Location: Nice neighborhoid restaurants within walking distance, great local bakery a few blocks away
Not very luxurious. Disappointing for a Kimpton. Basic. Rugs and linens had a damoness to them. No soap holder in the shower. Tired. Ready for a makeover

Hello, Anonymous, I am hoping that you must have stayed with us before the renovation. Chrome soap dishes were placed into the rooms at that time as part of the bathroom remodel. In any case, on the bright side I am so glad that you loved the local neighborhood, and if you are talking about Fillmore Bakery, I must say I am a huge fan, especially of their special princess cake!

Quiet modern hotel

Posted Oct 18, 2016
Location: Lots of restaurants nearby in Japantown.
The room and balcony were clean and spacious. The hotel was quiet. There was a handy fridge in the room along with a yoga mat, umbrella and safe. We really enjoyed our stay and would come back again.

Thanks, Amy! I'm glad all the little perks helped make the stay extra comfortable. Keep in mind that the in-room wifi is also free, just see the front desk for details!
