Cons: Had a corner 3rd floor room on Powell Street which was not resilient o the outside cable car noise an bustling city at weekend nights.
3rd floor stay corner room off Powell Street was subject to late night street noise, cable cars, bustling city, etc. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the vintage hotel was worth the stay. Room was ample size for 2 people. Love the mix of old and new.

Location and view

Posted Jan 8, 2017
We stayed at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel for one night (a Saturday night) in early November in a Deluxe, One King Bed, City View room. We had already spent a week in San Francisco a couple of weeks earlier, but had to come back to fly home to Australia, and wanted a central location. The Deluxe City View room we were in was on the 20th floor. We were advised at check-in that the room was on the floor below the nightclub and you can hear some noise, and as it was a Saturday the club would be going until 1am. It was after 9pm when we checked-in and we still needed to get in to our room, shower, and go and have some dinner, so we figured 1am wasn’t too bad and we probably wouldn’t be hitting bed until then anyway. Turns out on Saturday nights it goes until 2am, which while only an hour more, is the longest hour ever when you are trying to get to sleep! And it’s not just a bit of noise, you can clearly hear the music and make out the lyrics. Just getting to your room on a Saturday night is difficult, it almost seems like those going up to The Starlight Room nightclub get lift preference somehow. There really should be one of the lifts blocked off for the nightclub and the rest for guests who are trying to get to their room. The bed was definitely NOT a King bed, it is a Queen at a stretch. The bathroom was also tiny. We had to call housekeeping on three occasions: for more pillows, there were only two, and even folding them over didn’t help (there were no spare ones in the clo

Nice historic property close to Union Square

Posted Jan 8, 2017
Right on the cable car line and walkable to many shops and restaurants. Rooms are small, but nicely appointed. A good choice if you like classic old properties vs. cookie cutter hotels.

Shabby condition. Seen better days

Posted Jan 1, 2017
Pros: The location
Cons: The entire hotel needs to be remodeled which would be extremely expensive so if you don't mind a somewhat shabby condition, it's a great location.
My room was small and the bathroom very small and the overall condition was shabby. The hotel lobby had horrible bright LED lights in the chandeliers which bathed the space in a very unpleasant light. The entire feeling was of a hotel that has seen much better days long ago. For the money it's okay but I wouldn't stay there again.

Great historic hotel that had incredible decor and very. Good staff! The view of Union Square was awesome and during the Holiday season it made it just that much better! Slight glitch at check in, but they corrected it quickly and got us the room we had made reservations for. Beautiful decor!

Great location, excellent service

Location is excellent, cable car stop very close by, walking distance to union square. Expedia made a mistake in our reservation from the beginning and management tried their best to accomodate. Excellent cuatomer service.

Room Switch

Posted Dec 22, 2016
Pros: The old style charm and tradition yet the rooms were all upgraded and clean.
Cons: Elevators very slow
Our first room didn't work out. It had a really bad odor in it. The staff was very nice and brought up keys to a new room.

Beautiful

Posted Dec 6, 2016
The hotel itself was architecturally impressive and the staff very attentive. The room was a good size considering the age of the building, its location and price. I feel it was 100% worth the cost. However, I found the pillows a bit hard and the restroom organized inconveniently for being so small.
