Very disappointing - Room door is old and heavy, and it was very hard to open. Wi-fi service was spotty, so I asked for Concierge's help - She was extremely unfriendly and did not care. The staff should have a proper customer service training.

Dear Guest, First off, I am equally disappointed to learn that you found one of our concierges unfriendly. All of them often get great reviews and I am surprised and am sorry that you had to experience her uncaring customer service. As for the door, I am not certain which room you stayed in but I will have my engineering to check on the doors. Thank you for your comments. Jim Gross, General Manager

Great location, small rooms, old facility

Posted Aug 31, 2015
Pros: location
Cons: hotel needs some updating; rooms are small
Can't complain about the location, but comfort is lacking due to small rooms and old facility

Dear Mercedez, Glad that you liked our location! I can certainly appreciate that our style isn't for everyone's liking. We are a 1928 historic building and some rooms can be much cozier and better suited for a single traveler while we offer much bigger rooms that can accommodate a family. We hope that you'll visit us soon. Thanks! Jim Gross, General Manager

Quick get away.

Posted Aug 30, 2015
My boyfriend and I stayed here on a 2 night getaway from Los Angeles. The hotel is centrally located right in the middle of Union Square. Plenty of wonderful restaurants and shopping! It's near the metro, and also walking distance to a lot of San Francisco attractions. When we arrived the valet guy dressed in his renaissance outfit offered to park the car right away but did not mention the price of $59 a day. When I asked price I decided not to park there and half a block away I parked for $30 a day. We got checked in right away and when we got to our room it was the very last room on the corner the regular rooms are tiny! We had a rattling noise coming from the bathroom celling that was pretty loud so I called and told them it was going to be impossible for me to sleep there. They upgraded right away to a deluxe which was soo much better and a bigger space. After that our hotel stay was great. The only thing I wished they had was a refrigerator to keep things cold and continental breakfast. They only serve coffee and tea in the morning and free wine from 5-6 I believe.

Dear Guest, It sounds like you had a nice getaway from So. Cal! First off, yes, our location speaks for itself and although you may not need to have a car to get around, there are several public parking garages. Unfortunately, ours is managed and owned by a 3rd party company. Please also know that we have very limited numbers of mini frige available in our housekeeping department. It can be brought up upon request. Hopefully you enjoyed our complimentary coffee/tea service in the morning as well as our nightly complimentary wine hour. We hope to see you soon! Nice hotel in great location.

Posted Aug 23, 2015
This is a very old, but nicely kept current hotel. The location is great and the staff was first class. My room was so extremely small, but I knew after reading reviews that is was going to be. That being said, it had all updated equipment and was very comfortable. I was on the 11th floor, so there was no noice problem. I was in town for Phantom of the Ophra and I felt very comfortible and safe at the Sir Frances Drake.

Dear Lisa, I appreciate your wonderful review! We are a 1928 historic building that went under a renovation in 2011 to add few modern amenities. As you mentioned, our rooms are very typical of the 20's era; some cozier but many larger rooms that can comfortably accommodate a family. Yes, our location is not only safe, but very convenient to the theatre district as well as many world-class shopping and dining. We hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Jim Gross, General Manager

Nice location but too small.

Posted Aug 21, 2015
The location was great but the room, particularly the bathroom, was too small. There was no place to put toiletries. The noise level was also very bad. You could hear the people in the next room & the people in the club. Maid service was excellent.

Dear Becca, Yes, our location speaks for itself and I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Please know that our hotel is a 1928 historic building that went under a renovation in 2011. Some of the things were untouched due to few restrictions, but hopefully that'll change in the future. I'm glad to hear that our housekeeper did a great job. We hope to see you soon. Good location, nice staff, a bit old

Posted Aug 21, 2015
Great location in Union Square, but unfortunately the windows are thin and you can hear everything. The first room I was in had a window in the shower that wouldn't close so you felt like you were at the concert that was going on in Union Square. Staff was really nice and moved me to another (slightly quieter) room. The a/c in the room was a joke and it was really hot all night as well. The lobby, location and staff are great, but the rooms could use some upgrades.

Good location

Posted Aug 19, 2015
Pros: We liked the location, the old time feel, and the complimentary coffe and tea in the morning, and the wine in the afternoon.
Cons: The coffee and tea ran out some mornings and was not filled up quickly enough.
Location: The location near Union Square was great, making many things to do walkable, like the Bart, and Chinatown.
We stayed a week, taking in all the attractions of SF. The hotel's location made it all easily accessible. We walked to Union Square to pick up a tour bus, to the Bart, to the ballpark, and to Chinatown. The staff was great, especially the young ladies who poured our complimentary wine during happy hour, from 5 to 6!

Nice hotel and room

Posted Aug 15, 2015
Only downside was we were on the 3rd floor and it was very noisy. Trolley and traffic woke us every morning at 6am. If you are on a higher floor you most likely will not hear it as much.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. Whilst some guests do enjoy the Cable Car sound, I am sorry that it woke you up. The rooms facing Union Square is a lot quieter than the one facing the street side. I hope to see you soon. Jim Gross, General Manager
