Clean and reasonably (for SF) priced.

Posted Feb 5, 2016
Pros: Clean, quiet, old-fashioned, good breakfast
Cons: They put out wine for guests M-F. Why not Saturday & Sunday, too? It seems cheap. How about a basic coffee maker in the room?
Location: Golden Gate Park. Cole Valley. Access to downtown and other neighborhoods via N Judah and buses
Single traveler. (If I was with my family, I'd look for an Airbnb.) I've stayed at the Stanyan Park about six times. The rooms vary in size, but all are clean and have some old-fashioned charm to them. Nothing fancy about anything--the shower works like a regular shower, for example. The morning (free) breakfast is pleasant as is the breakfast room. They offer a "five o'clock wine serving" M-F. Why they don't have it on Saturday or Sunday is a puzzler and seems a little on the cheap side. Location is right across the street from Golden Gate Park. However, be warned that the first couple hundred yards on the walk into the park is sketchy--homeless, Haight Street drug dealers. That said, I've gone in and out of the park at least a dozen times without incident. The N Judah Muni Metro line is a short walk away. That gets you downtown relatively quickly and also connects to BART and the airport (about 60 minutes from hotel to airport). There are other buses on Stanyan and nearby streets as well, but I've never used them.

Old hotel

Stayed here for one night. Old decor. Looks like something from a scary movie. Limited basic amenities. But free wifi. Room very small. Has a odd smell throughout the hotel. Complimentary breakfast.

Our favorite place to stay in San Francisco.

Posted Jan 4, 2016
Pros: Its great location on the edge of Golden Gate Park .
Cons: Little upgrades like mentioned above.
Location: Great location, next to the GG Park and Haight Street. The Science Center and Museum of Art are located in the Park so very convenient.
We have been staying in this hotel for 10 years now and it's like "a home away from home" whenever we visit, close to the neighborhoods that we know and love. It's also excellently situated from a public transportation perspective -- and that's what everyone should be taking when they visit San Francisco, especially now that the various modes of transit in the greater Bay Area have all been united under the Clipper Card. This one card takes you from the airport to the hotel, across the Bay to Saucalito, anywhere that public transit goes. The hotel itself is a little worn around the edges and things like the window shades could use replacing. The wall paper is a tad worn as well but overall, none of this would keep us from booking. It's the only place we'll consider staying in this city.

Cons: Needs a renovation.
Location: Good location if you need to be in the middle of the city, near the Haight or Golden Gate Park.
The Stanyon Park is in need of a renovation. Although everything seemed very clean, the furniture throughout the hotel is shabby and in need of an upgrade. The wallpaper and paint in the room was dingy. The walls were thin & I could hear neighbors coming and going. The room was really cold when I checked-in, and despite leaving the heater on the entire time the room never warmed up. In addition, there is no heater in the bathroom so it stayed quite cold. "Old San Francisco" charm only goes so far. I am highly suspicious of all the 4 and 5 star ratings. The front desk was not accommodating when I called to request a late check-out (11am to noon) after my NYE stay. They said they would call me back after checking with housekeeping on the 1 hour extension. This is usually given as a courtesy extension by default. They never called me back to confirm, but did call to complain when I hadn't left by 11:30. Seeing as it was New Year's day, I would have expected a more generous policy. Or at least friendly service.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us! Feedback such as this allows to focus on the issues that we do have as the guest experience is of utmost importance to us. For future reference, if the in room heaters are not as warm as you would like, we do have space heaters available at the desk upon request. Regarding late checkouts, most hotels do have a policy regarding how many late checkouts can be accommodated so that housekeeping can have as many rooms as possible cleaned at check-in time. We apologize for being unable to provide a late checkout; we try to accommodate as many guest requests as we can.

Clean hotel, nice location next to attractions.

Posted Jan 3, 2016
The hotel was much less worn down than the other reviews described. We stayed NYE night. The cupola room was spacious, had an excellent view of GG park, smelled fresh, looked clean, was quiet and all my interactions with the staff were pleasant as well. Street parking was easy to find and meters only run to 6pm. Excellent location next to Whole Foods Market, the Warriors were playing in an exciting pub just downstairs, and a live comedy show was happening just 1.5 blocks away at The Milk Bar. A pinball arcade was happening in a converted garage just a few steps away. This spot has lots of attractions close by, too many to see in one day. Although I found the best price using Expedia, $220 plus per night, makes for only a one night stay for me. Good accessible place having only two or three floors. Only minor drawback was no fan in the bathroom but otherwise much whiter and cleaner than I expected. I recommend this place. Come visit the heart of SF.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us on New Year's Eve. We hope that you stay with us again and perhaps see more of the local area. The pinball arcade nest door, "Free Gold Watch" is known throughout the world for it's pinball collection; it is quite impressive for sure. However, once again thank you for your kind words and staying with us. We hope that on future visits to San Francisco that you plan on staying with us as well.

Old world style hotel in excellent location next Golden Gate park. Staff very obliging and show good follow up. Little touches like afternoon drinks in dining are most welcome and enjoyable. Easy transport to main city area a bonus.

Easy access to pretty much everything SFO

Posted Oct 31, 2015
Bare bones.. but clean and close to pretty much anything you might want to see or get to within an hour. Bad -No iron in the room. -No screens on the windows (this was not an issue during our stay but bugs/flies can easily get in). -Small room (bare bones) - just enough room for two (room 108). -No air conditioning (we went in Oct - this was not an issue for us). They will bring a small fan for you if the room gets hot. -Mattress was very soft (my husband prefers a bit more firm). -Front staff at check-in were a bit rude when I mentioned the heat in the room (if you book through Expedia "it's not really their problem if ammeneties are not what was originally promised). Having said that .. the morning front staff were awesome and provided great tips/directions. Good -Clean and well lit with natural light (extra pillows and covers in room/ quick room clean even if you leave the room after 12pm). -Breakfast offered from 6am-10am (coffee, tea, juice, soy milk, bagels, toast, danishes (egg free!), fresh fruit, waffles, muffins..). Heavy on the carbs - minimal healthy options - but good enough considering it's free! -Free maps at the front desk of the immediate area and popular tourist spots. Also, a list of all eating spots in the area and what they offer (nice touch). -Free Wifi (no issues with connection during our stay) and a hotel PC downstairs for guests that need it (free). -Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood (all sorts of cafes, restaurants and shopping within bloc

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback and comments! I am sorry that you felt put off by the desk staff in the evening. This will be addressed. It is true we do not have air conditioning, however, it is typically not needed as the weather in San Francisco is pretty constant throughout the year. October 31 can be quite similar to July 31. Many of the older hotels in For future reference, despite not having an iron in the rooms, (our suites do have them) you can request one, as we do have them available if needed. We are looking forward to your return stay if and when you decide to return to San Francisco.

Friendly hotel close to Golden Gate Park

Posted Oct 24, 2015
This hotel in the Cole Valley – Haight Street neighborhood was extremely convenient to public transportation, Golden Gate sights, a Whole Foods and other services. There are a few street people nearby ,but the hotel has good security and locks outside doors at 10 pm. The free breakfast and evening wine are served in a lovely antique dining room.
