Great Hotel, Courteous Staff

Posted May 27, 2016
Pros: It has maintained the beauty of old woodwork and stained glass but have updated to provide a comfortable atmosphere for guests.
Location: This hotel is close to Union Square in San Francisco but not right in the heart of things. Public transportation is easily accessible.
This is an old but well maintained hotel. The rooms are as described and room temperature is controlled in the room. Staff are courteous and thorough. The free breakfast was great! The hotel will be even better when the new subway improvements are completed. I would definitely return to The Opal and would recommend it to friends & family.

Great Hotel at Reasonable Price

Posted May 20, 2016
Pros: Comfortable rooms, clean, nice staff, free wine on Tuesdays
Cons: AC wasn't great. Not usually a problem but San Francisco was humid while I was there. Limited counter space. Staff member was asleep at check out.
Location: Walking distance to Union Square, Moscone Center, and Nobb Hill. 24 hour diner attached to hotel. Good restaurants, bars, and coffee shops nearby.
Nice hotel within walking distance to Union Square and Moscone Center. 24 hr diner attached, but also close to many restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.

Comfortable - Okay for quick trip

Posted May 7, 2016
Pros: Location, the room was clean & the bed was comfortable
Cons: Correct the smell of the room - it was extremely musty and quite overwhelming
The room was decent and is what to be expected from an old building. The location made it easy for me to get to and from my destination, without having to take public transportation or cabs. My only issue was the very musty smell of the room. It was very overwhelming and I ended up getting an air freshener from CVS to try and mask the smell. That helped.

Ken: Thank you for your comments regarding your stay with us. I apologize for the musty smell. We have been installing new carpets in our rooms to try and combat this and sometimes it can be tricky as the building is 108 years old. But we are constantly working on upgrading (we installed all new beds in the rooms over the past few months and I'm glad to see you liked them!) and going through major renovations and hope that the next time you stay here you will find improvements.

Great location

Posted May 3, 2016
We went to San Francisco for a concert at the Regency and wanted something within walking distance. The hotel didn't have the greatest breakfast available, however it was free, but they are right next door to Mel's drive in diner and a great breakfast place called the Moulin is really close as well. It was relatively quiet and only 15-20 minutes from the airport.

Rei: Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at The Opal. We are looking to expand our complimentary continental breakfast menu and maybe the next time you are attending a concert at The Regency, you will see more items. We do hope you will stay with us again the next time you are in San Francisco.

Hotel well connected

Posted Apr 29, 2016
This is my first trip to US. I thank Expedia firstly for helping me to locate the opal. I made decision to stay in this hotel based ONLY on Expedia!! I am happy for the decision. More than the facilities the staff here are too good. Only suggestion the hotel can explore making improvements in brake fast menu. Since we are here for 7 days now it's the same every day. It's bit boring.

The hotel was beautiful.

Posted Apr 27, 2016
Pros: It was very beautiful. Would love staying again have to get pass customer service problems first.
The problem we experienced was they requested an addition $50.00 cash only deposit before they would check- in. They tried to charge for 4 days of parking when only stayed 2 Days. Also charge $23.00 on charge card. When I called to find out for what I was told incendentials. I explained I don't pay for incendentials with out knowing what they are for. They said it would take 3 days to take charges off my card. They where taken off after 3 days.

Peggy: I'm sorry to hear you had so many issues with billing. Most hotels require a deposit on check in. We ask for a $50 incidental authorization that goes to a credit card but don't take cash. The incidental charge is insurance and is not an actual charge. It goes back to your card after you check out. I apologize if no one explained this to you when you were checking in.

Nice Hotel

Posted Apr 26, 2016
Pros: security and courtesy of the staff
Cons: decor, wallpapaer
Location: hole in the wall restaurants nearby, tasty food though. can get a little noisy on the streets, but that's a city!
Was on a business trip. Good room, comfortable, was able to work in peace when I wanted to.
