Nice hotel, great location

Posted Mar 25, 2017
The hotel was average. Not extremely impressive but fairly clean. The greatest part of the hotel is the location. It's in a nicer, less crowded area of the city. And still walking distance from most iconic locations. Also, easy to catch a ride right out front of the hotel. I would stay here again but I would ask for a room in the 2nd floor.

Good price for being in town.

Posted Mar 22, 2017
The hotel was going through a major renovation. Too noisy to sleep in. Some homeless were near front door, but the fob kept them from coming inside. Breakfast was convenient, and fun meeting all the different people from all over.

Nice hotel for price and location

Posted Mar 19, 2017
Pros: Staff was helpful and friendly, 24 hour coffee and tea bar, good continental breakfast included, nice lobby, clean rooms.
Location: Central location on big avenue, walking distance to Market St.
Friendly, helpful staff, in the hub of the city, older hotel but good for the price.

Great great staff , perfect location , very secure parking. But..... the hotel should be closed , the workman started at 710 the drilling and noise was shocking ..., They were on level four and we stayed on level 1..... such a shame Plastic sheets on floor in hallways it was like we stayed on a worksite

Anita: Thank you for taking the time to write about and rate your stay with us. Independent hotels like ours are helped greatly by guest comments whether they let us know what we are doing right or what we need to work on to be better. I am sorry to hear the renovations were bothersome but I understand. They shouldn't be working until 8am, and so I appreciate you letting me know that they are starting early. We are renovating every floor of our 108 year old building and it is proving to be quite a task but we are trying not to let it interfere with our guests' enjoyment of the city. I do apologize that if affected your stay in San Francisco negatively.

Well priced hotel, good location, excellent staff

Posted Feb 27, 2017
Pros: Location, comfort, helpful staff.
Cons: Frig in the room. Tea and coffee making facility in the room.
Location: Well located and walking distance to major attractions. Taxi and coach drivers were familiar with the hotel.
this hotel is very well located, close to public transport and walking distance to Union square, Fisherman's Warf, etc. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. It is accepted that the hotel is quite old, but it is very well priced compared to the competition. We missed having a frig and tea or coffee making facilities in the room, but apart from that the rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and the furnishings acceptable. The continental breakfast, which is included in the room rate, was good.

We are in the process of remodeling our 108 year old hotel and the new rooms will include mini fridges and safes. Thank you again and I hope you have a good day,

A little run down

Posted Feb 23, 2017
Pros: it was ok
Cons: Parking fee was insane
Location: good location and decent walking distance to Union Square
Around the hotel is not really suitable for family walk after sunset. Lots and lots of homeless people on the street made me feel really uncomfortable and unsafe in the evening hours. Even during day light we walked with caution. Keep your valuables safe. I am not 100% certain but felt someone went through our luggage's, but again its just my gut feelings

NY: Thank you very much for taking the time to write about and rate your stay at our hotel. Independent hotels like ours rely heavily on guest comments. They help us to let people know what we are doing right and they help us to know what we need to work on. I apologize about the homeless issue that San Francisco has. I imagine it is different in NY. We do try and make our guests feel safe with locked doors that are only accessible by room keys and our secured gated parking only accessible by being buzzed in or having a remote giving guests 24 hour in and out privilege, which we try to price competitively with other hotels that offer the same services. I will look into who cleaned your room if you feel someone was going through your things. That is something we frown on heavily and would have someone removed if it was discovered that they were doing that. We do have safety deposit boxes available for guests free of charge at our Guest Services as well. Thank you again for taking the time to write.

Good value, clean and not far from Union Square

Posted Feb 21, 2017
We picked this hotel because of the price tag. Overall we were happy with our choice: clean room and public areas, easy check in and check out, hairdryer and ironing board and free wifi, quiet room, breakfast included, only 8 blocks or so walk to Union Square. Downsides were that the breakfast food didn't contain much nutritional value, and the shower was not very powerful. As it is in Tenderloin, be prepared for a sketchy walk depending on the route you take. We found a great deli / market store on O'Farrell/Polk near to the hotel that did great bagels and salads called Bread and Butter Market and Deli if you need to substitute your breakfast or buy lunch on your way out to the City.

Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to write about and rate your stay with us. Independent hotels such as ours rely quite heavily on guest comments to let people know what we are doing right and to let us know what we need to work on. I like Bread & Butter as well and their deli foods are amazing. As we work on renovating our hotel, we hope you might return and see our more modern rooms in the future. I hope you have a nice day.

Good hotel. Close to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

Pleasant stay. The hotel looks kind of old but it's still very nice overall. Rooms are small but nice, clean and comfy. Parking is pricey but it was better than parking somewhere else. The staff was great/friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

Great Family Location

Posted Feb 4, 2017
Pros: Location was perfect given we were travelling with two young children (9 and 11). Ease of using public transport to get to where we needed to go.
Cons: Upgrade to room facilities but nothing of significant note.
Location: Perfect given we were travelling with two young children (9 and 11). Ease of using public transport to get to where we needed to go. Mels Diner.
Hotel was perfect for a busy family holiday. Rooms had all that was required with Mels Diner below and a cinema next door. Public transport was very close by and readily available to take you where you required including Fishermans Wharf, Union Square, Giants Stadium, Cable Cars and even Oakland. A short 15 minute walk to union square also where you could buy hop-on hop-off bus tickets which also added to the ease of getting everywhere including Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz launch and even stopped a few blocks away from hotel. Other restaurants were in a few block radius, pizza, Italian, subway, burger king. Not the variety of a more central location but easy to work around given the ease and frequency of public transport. Other positives include a nice continental breakfast with a variety of options and very efficient wifi service. Staff were very friendly and assisted as and when requested.
