Old landmark turned into mediocre business hotelPosted May 24, 2017
In support of the environment, they did away with most peripherals including all stationery and most toiletry amenities but my last straw was when I found that the toilet paper was crappier and thinner than the kind one gets at public toilets. With these claims of environmental support, they kept throwing away existing soap I was using and replacing it with new ones. Towels which I placed on the side as still usable were taken away to wash. They could have "gone green" in a more efficient way and much classier ways I have seen at other hotels but instead everything just came across as skimpy and cheap. Was a far cry from the St Francis a long time ago.

ComfortablePosted May 22, 2017
Enjoyed my visit to the St Frances. Always wanted to stay at this icon of a hotel. Now that I did I doubt I'd return. The staff is excellent and the service as well, however the hotel is dated and could use a complete makeover. The carpets seemed old and dirty and some fresh paint wouldn't hurt. The gym is excellent and again the staff is excellent

Great hotel, pet policy a little strictPosted May 19, 2017
Pros: Location, spacious, clean, historic.
The hotel was beautiful, the staff very helpful and pleasant to speak with. The room was very confortable, clean and spacious. And LOCATION is bar none the best! The only think I didn't care for was the strict pet policy, which is that you can't leave your pet in the room unattended. So we either have to stay in the room all day or take our dog with us everywhere. But, they do not charge a pet fee, so that is a large benifit.

Great hotel with charm. The staff was wonderful.Posted May 15, 2017
Pros: Location, charm, friendly staff
Cons: More information about San Franisco in the rooms would be helpful.
Location: walking, trolley car stop was less than a block away, could get to Fisherman's Wharf and event venues all within walking distance.
It was wonderful to stay and a hotel that has character and hasn't been remodeled to the point where everything feels generic. The location was fantastic. We took the BART fro the airport and were able to get all over downtown without a car. I loved the option to forgo housekeeping for more SPG points.

Marvelous historic hotel in a convenient locationPosted May 15, 2017
Splendid nearby restaurants, spacious room, extremely quiet, convenient car rental on site, full of history, wonderful restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch (sadly, dinner is not available), lively bar, and gift shop that carries a large variety of items to include fabulous hotel label items. All but one employee exemplified superior customer service (the one employee was rude and unprofessional when I called down from our room for assistance). The A/C stopped working during our first night and although we called in the morning to request repairs, it had not been fixed by the evening when we returned. It was eventually fixed but still ran on the warm/stuffy side. Even with these minor imperfections, they did not distract from what a fantastic hotel this is and we will definitely return! Thank you!!

Small rooms and bathroom, thin wallsPosted May 15, 2017
The room and bathroom was tiny considering it's a 4 star hotel and the price paid. The walls were also very thin. We could clearly hear conversations from the room next door (every word clearly). When they started to play country music, we requested to move rooms. I couldn't really blame our neighbors for wanting to hear music on their vacation. The staff was friendly and honored our request. The location was good. It was in the middle of all the shopping and restaurants. The airport is a 30 min ride and the golden gate bridge is a 30 min ride as well.

Great hotelPosted May 15, 2017
Walking into the lobby you can tell that this is a historic building but the hotel is very well maintained. We stayed in the tower side, which is probably the newer side but my friend stayed on the other side and he said his room was fine too. Staff is friendly and hotel is clean. Also located in a great location.

Excellent Location in Union SquarePosted May 9, 2017
Pros: Location and fitness clothing & shoe rentals.
Cons: Lobby is kind of blah. I know that this is a historical building but they could make the main hub a little more interesting.
Location: Union Square, Victoria Secret, Macy's, Aldo, Cheesecake factory, etc. Many places to shop and eat. Main location for hop on hop off tour bus.
I booked a stay in the Landmark building and regretted it. It was very small and outdated. We had a view of a brick wall. The updates in the bathroom looked nice but overall it was too small for my taste. I decided to upgrade to the Tower building during my stay and I loved it! Very spacious rooms with extra seating, partial view of union square, and a elegant bathroom. I would stay here again due to the location and the new rooms in the Tower building.

Classic Hotel in a great locationPosted May 9, 2017
Pros: Architecture, Decor, and location
Cons: Offer free WiFi, and use of computer to check in to flights and print boarding passes.
Location: see above
My husband and I wanted a quick get-a-way to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The Westin St. Frances was the perfect place. The location in Union Square was great, our corner room was spacious and had a wonderful view especially in the evening. We were walking distance to China Town, Market Street and Union Square shopping. Getting to other locations of interest including: The Wharf, Pier 39, Little Italy (for dinner) and Coit Tower were an easy Street Car ride away (it stops right in front of the hotel). I marked off a point to the overall rating and Hotel Facilities because I thought it was a bit cheesy that they charged for WiFi and charged to use the computer to check in to our flight and print our boarding passes.
