Love this hotel

Posted Jun 5, 2017
Hotel right next to Golden Gate Park and Haight Street which is right where we wanted to be. Staff was wonderful - friendly and helpful. Our room was a corner room and was beautiful. Almost didn't want to leave to go see the sights!

Great location, clean and comfortable.

This hotel is next to the eastern end of gold gate park and a short walk from several interesting neighborhoods. Check in a was convenient. I did not use the valet so cannot comment but, there is close parking with $20 overnight rate. The hotel feels historic but the rooms were clean and comfortable. I would stay again.

Disappointing, with rude staff

Posted May 17, 2017
Pros: Nothing. I was embarrassed that I brought my mother there for her birthday to see the city.
Cons: Customer service, which was horrid *every time* we entered. I've never been at a hotel where the front desk staff dont look up and greet you.
Location: Dodge meth-heads and the homeless to get to the nearby McDonalds or Whole foods.
Worst customer service - the hotel staff ignore you as you walk into the small lobby in favor of playing on the computer or talking to their buddy about Spiderman so that you have to interrupt to get a greeting. They use a cheap cleaner that leaves an ammonia smell, which makes the place seem like it reeks of urine. The rooms are cramped, there's no air (our usable window opened out into--a HALLWAY--and you can hear everything all day and night, including the slamming of vacuums into your door for 20 minutes at a time. The breakfast, tea, and wine hour are staffed by two dour looking elder people who look furious at having to be there (and the gentleman kept a loud violent movie on during their 'tea' hour). The Haight neighborhood has "flavor" - by which they mean it's dangerous - not potheads, but angry meth-heads you have to dodge, and a heavy police presence does nothing to keep them away. They say they restored the hotel, but we couldnt see how.

Dear Ms.Colleen Susan Harris-Keith , I apologize for the customer service you received and any inconvenience during your stay. The agents responsible for your check-in will be summoned and will be re-trained by the FD supervisor. Stanyan Park Hotel is the oldest running hotel in San Francisco since 1905 and is in the National Register of Historic Places. So, we try to maintain the old Victorian charm and hence it is devoid of air-conditioning. As far as the condition of the surrounding areas of the hotel ,we are working with the neighborhood businesses to curb it.The chemicals used are without ammonia and are provided by a company that services most of the franchise hotels in bay area.As far as the tea service receptionists, this issue is new since your last feedback and will be looked into as well. Sincerely , GM@SPH

Finely aged hotel with helpful front desk staff at my midnight arrival and pre-dawn departure. Clean rooms and convenient location.

For what it offers this should be $75/night...

Posted Mar 25, 2017
Outdated hotel pretending that being outdated makes it quirky, fun, and "boutique." No desk in room. No desk chair I room. No couch in room. No coffee maker in room. Walls of room covered in Grandma's wallpaper. Front desk staff acts weird as part of the whole spiel but it didn't work for me.

Near the hospital

Posted Mar 15, 2017 on Orbitz
Pros: Clean, cute, roomy, comfortable, close to UCSF.
Cons: Maybe front office staff a little more professional.
Location: Love the proximity to Golden Gate Park. It's also an easy drive to North Beach where we had dinner.
My husband was having surgery at UCSF. We chose Stanyon Park hotel due to its' proximity; only 1/2 mile away; an easy uphill walk for me to visit every day. The hotel was comfortable with all basic amenities, very clean, quaint in décor, and surprisingly roomy. I enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and wine and cheese. The front desk staff was ok, not super helpful, but not snarky either. I would definitely stay there again. My only complaint is that there is no parking, except $20/day parking across the street. Luckily, the hospital allows for $6/day parking if you have a family member in the hospital and a handicap placard.
