Thanks for your comments. We hope to be much better for the next time you ´ll stay in our place. We will wait for you with very cold water or special juice like a present. Have a very good time our guest. And have a very good Christmas and a happy new year 2018!!!! Ana Maria Parra - General Manager
The hotel is not what one would consider a normal run hotel. There is not desk to speak of. It is not manned. The owners live on property. They are very helpful with your needs. There is a office near the front door and thats where you go for help. If they are not there, there is a buzzer on the front door. There is a side gate that you use to enter and exit the room area. There is a pool but at my time there, they were filling it. Breakfast was included. They offer dish of fruit and a plate of scrambled eggs and fried plantains. If walking, go out past the park and go Left. Within 10 minutes is a small mall with bar/restaurants and on the backside there is a grocery store. Walk 10 more minutes and go across the cross walk, there is a mall with many stores and restaurants there. Buses are available on the main road to go to downtown San Juan. The back of the hotel faces the highway and you do get some noise from that in the room. No more than most hotels.
Poorly cleaned room. The pictures online are not a true depiction of the place. If you want to be close to the hotel and not bother with a commute, then it's worth the stay. If not, then there is no need.

The service was great, but our bathroom did not have natural ventilation.
This hotel was difficult to find but was quaint and clean inside. nice common area. Exterior needs work but good value for the price. Would have felt insecure if I had been alone. I would go again.
This was a terrible place! Firstly, it's a home, not a hotel. It's in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. There is no signage. I showed up and the place was CLOSED. Finally a "staff member" in his PJs came out and said his mom was asleep. Urged that we sign in (even though there was literally no one there) and showed us our rooms. When we saw the poor state and discovered that one of the rooms didn't even lock from the outside, we left the keys and booked elsewhere. FURTHER, when I requested a refund for the night that I DIDN'T STAY in the hotel, they rejected the request. Scam hotel.
This is a very mediocre hotel for the area, there are much better options for a little bit more money. The facilities are not kept well, there is no parking, it is in a residential area, there is no staff (only the owners in pijamas). It all just feels wrong.
This hotel was clean. All we wanted was quick access to the local fun things, clean beds and a hot shower which it had. The WiFi didn't really work for us but many local restaurants had free WiFi so we used it there. For the price we would stay there again. We have four kids and we often have a hard time finding places big enough for all of us. Our room had three queen beds and air conditioning as well.
Was a bad experience, the hotel is a old house, with no parking we solicited a queen bed and received a full whit twin smell bad etc the breakfast bad. Definitely we don't recommend
It's a comfortable small family hotel,I was there for 5 days,no complaints for the price, breakfast was ok, hot water 24 hs ,customer service excellent , good neighbor with close market, security 24 hs,,, difinetly I recomend this hotel if u are on a budget
I came to Costa Rica with my best friend and this was our last stop on our adventure. It was perfect - away from everything, we had the beach to ourselves and was able to relax. We rented boogie boards ($12) which was a great way to enjoy the beach. If you're looking for a secluded resort - this is the place!! On a side note I booked this hotel because it came up when I searched Manuel Antonio - this hotel is NOT in Manuel Antonio. If you don't have a car I would recommend arranging transportation in advance. At all the other places we stayed the staff provided us many transportation options - the only option at this hotel was a taxi. We were quoted $150 to San Jose and when we arrived the cab charged us $190 (was our first bad experience with a cab driver). This is a perfect place if you have a car!!
A good stay not to far from the airport. A nice small hotel, quiet. We'd stay here again.
PROS:
-Somewhat near the airport
-Friendly staff
-Included Tico breakfast.
-Strong, free wifi in room
-Quiet (at least when we were there)
-Fridge in room
CONS:
-Limited parking inside the property walls
Pedro and Anita were very accommodating during our (3 family member) 5 night stay at Hotel Puerta del Sol.
Shopping (for groceries and otherwise) at the Cariari Mall nearby was available. The hotel is near the airport and the room was very clean and comfortable. The A/C worked perfectly although was not really necessary at this time of year in the Costa-Rican Central Valley. The amply sized room had a wide variety of cable channels a ceiling fan as well. The Hard Rock Cafe was nearby too!
Hotel Puerta del Sol is priced in a manner that is proper, unlike some of the hotels in the San Jose vicinity. I recommend the hotel wholeheartedly. Pura Vida!
It was a good experience, the place is full of green zones which is very nice, the room is very nice and clean and i get a breakfast extremely delicius!
This place is very convenient to some good restaurants, some nice apparel stores, dry cleaners & laundry, dentist, convenient food shop. I is very close to the bus stop for going into San Jose central. A short ride to the airport. the hotel is in a very quite neighborhood. the owner is hands on. The pool is clean and nice temperature and the grounds are very well kept. This is the 2 nd time I have stayed and will go back again.
The hotel pictures are true but the real thing is not as nice. The room was not nice... the bathroom roof was rotting because of the humidity. The room service was terrible. I get a call that if a want room cleaning I said yes and she said please leave the room now... and I said give me 20 minutes to get dressed and she said no it has to be now... then i said no thank you. They did not do any effort to really give the service. I do not recommend this hotel only if you want to save some money.
The hotel was very sufficient and very clean the staff and owner were very nice and friendly. A nice breakfast every morning. When I go back to S J CR I will stay here again. Not fancy but plenty good.
This was one of the nicest, cleanest small hotels I've stayed in in my two years in Costa Rica. I will stay there again. Owner and staff were very helpful and spoke English. Across the street from a nice mall and right on the main highway with a bus stop one block away. Excellent location for traveling in and out of San Jose, Alajuela or Heredia. Also, best breakfast of any stay I've had! Clean comfortable accommodations. Hot water. A/C (which I don't even need), but some really do! Very well priced! I will stay there again! Highly recommend this hotel.

Nice staff
The place is well hidden. San Jose itself is kind of a craphole. Our biggest qualms was the traffic noise at night. The highway is right behind the hotel. The bed wasn't great, and the internet wasn't either...though we found that to be normal for most CR hotels. The service was great, it's a mom and pop place...small and a beautiful garden around the pool. Best quality was breakfast which was served to us...including fruit, local egg breakfast w/toast, and juice and/or coffee.
My sister and I wanted to experience Costa Rica for our birthday, so we chose a small hotel owned by locals. We had a great time!!! There was a Costa Rican breakfast awaiting us every morning, and Ana Maria (the owner) ensured that we signed up for the best tours. Thanks Hotel Puerta del Sol!!!!!!! This was indeed a vacation that we will remember for a lifetime!
