The rooms were in terrible condition. Many outlets and lights did not work. The heaters just blew cool air. The manager was nice about it but acted as if there was no problem - like because the heaters turned on they were fine even if no heat came out. I had to get a different place to stay at 8 pm with 2 kids, so I did not call Expedia until the next day. Expedia and the motel determined I could not get a refund for that first night because I did not call that first night.

This place is a nightmare. Loud, dirty, cold (no heat and it’s 49 degrees outside). Hope it gets leveled and replaced with something you can sleep in.

You get what you pay for - don’t pay over $100
Amazing location! Thin walls, air conditioning helps create white noise. Television worked with occasional cut outs like the signal was lost, but infrequently an issue. WiFi was not a problem. Shower had good water pressure and temp, but tub base was peeling and it drained slowly. Grout areas seemed dusty. No bathroom fan (a window could open). Depressing lighting unless the curtains are open. Must have patience and a little bit of friendly negotiating with management. They were accommodating, but I also had to be. Parking was fine unless you have a large vehicle. Read the reviews and look at pictures. Water or soda could be purchased from front desk. No coffee maker or coffee provided. Toiletries are bar soap and shampoo/conditioner combo. Room fridge and microwave were handy.

We stood one night and the experience was great! It was perfect for my family, the motel is literally right across the street from the boardwalk !!! It’s quiet, we sleep well! The safe is so nice and friendly! I recommend this motel. We will be back!!!!

Hotel may be not Ritz-Carlton but it makes up for it for being so close to the pier and the Boardwalk and free safe parking is included! so grateful that I was able to check in early. If I come back to Santa Cruz I will stay here again.

The folks there are nice, but my room was terrible. The smell of pinesol and bleach barely overpowered the mildew and cigarette smoke. I couldn’t breathe in my room. The floor was sticky and damp and I didn’t want to touch and of the surfaces.

Bed was hard as a rock. The bed in the bedroom is a twin so if you were thinking you were gonna get some alone time with your husband you can forget it. The ac didnt work. However, the location was perfect ! Happy travels!

Property was in an wonderful location. It was easy and close to everything - if we forgot anything it was quick to pop back to the room. It was a bit over priced for what it was - but the convenience. The room was decently clean, but we had to wear our shoes the whole in inside or we would have had black, dirty feet !!

The motel is very close to the boardwalk and the wharf, which was perfect for us. The staff was excellent and very helpful, even looked after our luggage when we checked out as we had a later flight. We are only giving 4 stars for the room condition as the motel is currently getting renovated so our room was a bit outdated but can’t wait to stay there again once it’s been done to see it’s new look.

Not worth the money
I chose Fireside because of it’s location. A very short walk to the Boardwalk and surrounding area. Even with that I wouldn’t stay here again. The room smelled of stale cigarettes and bleach. We had to leave the door open for awhile to try and get some of the stank out. There were cigarette butts shoved into the peep hole. I discovered those little gems when I had to answer the door for one of the maintenance guys. Had to get maintenance there because our tv wasn’t working. Not a huge deal and they ended up replacing the whole thing which was nice. Thumbs up for that. The AC units were a tad difficult to manage because buttons were broken on them. The bathroom sink was pretty stained and dirty. Almost like they forgot to clean it. The place is in need of a major renovation. For the price they charge per night you would think they could afford it. At some point in the middle of the night we were woken up by a couple in an intense domestic dispute which left us wide awake and a tad scared. Not necessarily the hotels fault, but it went on for quite some time. I’m an easy going person and normally say it’s just a place to sleep, but I really didn’t care for this place. Spend your money someplace else.

It was a horrible experience, There was constant traffic in and out all night. On the side of the building, there's a homeless population that uses drugs out and open. It's definitely not worth the price.

Hopefully plumbing is fixed, not bad place
Check in was super easy. Clerk was super nice. We reserved and then promptly got an email that the following week there was going to be emergency construction and I needed to call them. I did and she said we were good to go. We got into the room which looked somewhat remodeled. Shower and sink backed up so our large family after being on the road and walking around San Fran had to take the quickest showers on record. The street side was very unkept and didn't feel super safe. PS If you're a light sleeper the trash truck on Mondays will scare the crap outta you if you stay on the street side. Great location close to the boardwalk.
