Excellent location, great staff

Pros: location staff
Location: harbour, fish market, restaurants, Charles Darwin centre
The location is absolutely perfect. Close walking to everything, restaurants, fish market, Charles Darwin centre, and harbour. Qiuet. the staff were more than helpful.

Not impressed

Our room and the bathroom were both on the small side. The air conditioning was very hard to regulate, basically one temperature and fan speed. It was too cold with it on and too hot with it off. While the pool area was nice, we sure wish there would have been lounge chairs. Mainly tables and chairs, plus three half loungers. I expected more for the money so was disappointed with what we got.

Spur of the moment surprise!

Pros: Location, friendliness of the staff, and scrumptious dessert.
Location: Good location and easy walking distance.
My husband surprised me with a trip to Ecuador for my birthday. He booked the flights and accommodations 3 days before we left and we were pleased with our accommodations and the location of Hotel Silberstein!

Expected more for the price

This hotel is quaint & cute, but overpriced for what it offers. The room we were given was very nice, but it had frustrating drawbacks. The bathroom sink water was not potable (a little creepy), so a spigoted water container was provided by the sink. Toilet paper was not to be put into the toilet, but into the trash (yuch!). The pool was a bit cold & not heated. A refrigerator was not provided, nor was there an ice bucket or ice machine. But, by far, our biggest disappointment was the internet service, advertised as free high speed wifi, including in the rooms. In the public areas, the wifi sign-in was touchy & often failed, internet service was very slow & patchy, and, our biggest complaint, the wifi did not work at all in our third floor (walk-up) room, and we were finally told, the second day, that it never worked on that level. To use the weak internet there was, you had to sit in a hot & humid first-floor lounge. After a five-day cruise without internet, this additional two nights of poor/no service was extremely annoying, as we had business matters which needed attention. At $191 a night plus tax (coming to $233 a night with their steep taxes), this hotel disappointed us. I had wanted to change hotels a few days prior to our stay in Puerto Ayora, but this hotel gives no refund unless you cancel over a month in advance, unlike most others on hotels.com, which you can usually cancel only 1-2 days in advance.

Nice Hotel in Puerto Ayora

Pros: AC, comfort of bed, water pressure
Cons: Strong WiFi signal that was consistent and reached the rooms
We had a lovely stay at Hotel Silberstein. The AC was lovely in the room, the WiFi only worked in the lounge area (they said it worked in the room, but it didn't) and they tried to charge us $300 USD a night, thankfully I had the printed Expedia confirmation for $198/night and they honored that. The location is walking distance to the Charles Darwin Research Facility and about a 15 minute walk to the harbor. I'd stay here again.

WONDERFUL place. Highly recommend. And I thought it was perfect until I met the new chef they just hired for the hotel restaurant...who took it to a whole other level! Best meals I had during my entire Galapagos stay (I love good food!). And they breakfast buffet is perfect. Tons of choices, eggs the way you want them, fresh juice...and all in an air conditioned room. The hotel staff were great, helping with any and every question. And super personable. Rooms are very nice, and the pool hits the spot as a quick refresher after a long day trip. Bring some bug spray for when the sun goes down!
