The city of Santa Fe was recognized recently with the NationalGeographic's “sense of place” award at the magazine’s WorldLegacy Awards in Berlin. The “sense of place” award — aparticularly prestigious laurel, local officials say — is bestowedon an organization that enhances cultural authenticity and supportshistoric monuments, vernacular architecture, indigenous heritage andartistic traditions.Like Santa Fe itself, Casa Guadalupe's 140-year-old structureresonates with its own "sense of place." This one-bedroom, singlelevel historic adobe home has been meticulously restored withimpeccable attention to detail and appreciation for old world charmand style. Wonderfully thick adobe walls provide a sense of permanencyand groundedness, and a buffer from the outside world. This home is located minutes west of the Plaza across from thefabulous Santa Fe School of Cooking. Casa Guadalupe is in the heart ofthe North Guadalupe District and is a short stroll away from majorSanta Fe attractions: the Historic Plaza, museums, the GeorgiaO'Keeffe Gallery, and historic churches, such as Our Lady of GuadalupeCathedral. Built in 1795, this church houses the oldest shrine to theVirgin Mary in the United States. Casa Guadalupe is also adjacent tothe modern Railyard district, which features Santa Fe's much-lovedFarmer's Market, multiple shops and galleries, and a small movietheater (The Jean Cocteau Cinema) owned by George R.R. Martin of Gameof Thrones fame.Upon entering the home, visitors take in the bright skylight, polishedoak wood floors, exposed vigas, and sand-finished plaster walls. Thesetraditional finishes encompass Santa Fe-style wood furniture whichincludes a large dining room table that accommodates up to fourguests. For those who enjoy preparing the local cuisine or favoritefoods from home while they travel, the compact, fully-equipped kitchenmakes the preparation of meals fun and convenient. The living room area features a traditional kiva fireplace to warmhands and hearts on chilly, Santa Fe nights, as well lush, leathersofas for cozying up with a book or welcoming extra overnight guests.Guests feel at home watching movies or TV on the flat screen HD TV andcatching up with their social media or email with Casa Guadalupe'shigh-speed internet. Tasty meals can be savored outside with familyand friends under blue New Mexico skies. A comfortable patio isconveniently equipped with a gas burning grill, table, and benches. The bedroom contains a king-size bed with snug bedding and comforters;closets allow for easy storage of clothing and valuables; the warm andinviting bath allows for showers or long, hot soaks in the spacioustub.Casa Guadalupe is pet-friendly (dogs only) with a non-refundable petfee. Please note: This property is located off of Guadalupe street, inbetween Pizzeria da Lino (a lovely, Italian restaurant) and ConcreteJungle (a locally owned smoke shop.) Staff & service

Property conditions & facilities

3/5 Okay

Liked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities
Disliked: Staff & service, room comfort
The property was clean and very nicely decorated and just as pictured. I was disappointed with the communication for check-in and had to make a number of calls and texts to confirm. I received and email only to have that contradicted the day we were to arrive. We were able to enter without issue once we arrived using the lock box code to access the key. We were surprised that NO A/C was available in this unit. We called and got a response within 30min and were told that one would be brought over. 3 hours later I was calling/texting to find out where it was. After a long travel day we were anxious to get to bed. I did arrive and we were able to use it in the bedroom only to keep us cool to sleep. We were out all day so this wasn't a problem. In addition the cable was not working. We were offered the option to move to another unit but decided that it was not worth the hassle. The unit is in a great location within walking distance to the plaza.

Access is by a key in a lock box by the entrance. We were not told this, and had difficulty contacting the agent when we arrived to get the code and therefore access the property. The bath shower arrangement is attractive but very slippery with no safety mats or handles to hold on to.
