Loved our stay at Hotel Be la Sierra - Santa Mart

Posted Feb 26, 2017 on Hotels
we liked very much our stay at Hotel Be la Sierra. Small hotel but comfortable, clean and had a small balcony with view to the beach. Breakfast was excellent with lots of fruit. Service was also excellent. Recommend this hotel.

Wouldn't Recommend. Stay in Santa Marta Instead.

The elevator broke on our first night. We had to spend the rest of our stay there walking up and down 20 flights of stairs. The soap dispenser in the shower hadn't been refilled when we got there, so I had to use the little single-serving hand-soap from the sink for bathing and the staff made kind of a big deal when I asked for more hand-soap to shower with. I'd only asked for two more bars of soap, one for each day we had left in our stay. They spitefully handed me a handful of soap to get me to leave them alone; I felt a little embarrassed afterwards. The towels were stained. The wifi was spotty, especially on the 10th floor. The breakfast was bad. The location turned out to be pretty bad too, which was a huge disappointment because it looks great on Google maps. It's right on the beach, but the water had a thin oily sheen on the surface, like soup. We paid for boat rides to the nicer beaches (the boats were cheap). The better restaurants, better hotels, and better everything else, were located on the other side of the hill, inside the actual city of Santa Marta (about 4 miles up the road). We spent virtually all of our time in Santa Marta and sort of dreaded having to go back to La Sierra at the end of the day. I wasn't exactly expecting a five star experience, but, jeez, I've stayed at cheap motels in NYC for this price that were better quality. I would not recommend staying at this hotel or any other hotel in this area.
