Old hotel in need of work.

Posted Nov 21, 2017
Pros: The staff were pleasant.
Cons: This hotel needs new, clean carpeting. It needs the doors to the rooms replaced or repaired so that they shut well. It needs working locks on rooms.
Location: The location was generally poor and run down.
This hotel is advertised as a historic building. While it is visually attractive from the front, outside, it is disappointing on the inside. While the staff was friendly and helpful the hotel was generally in need of A lot of work. The carpets were old, the facility smelled, the room doors did not shut well, the locks did not work well, and there was no hot water. The breakfast buffet was a very disappointing Experience as the hashbrowns and breakfast meats were cold and unappetizing. The coffee was excellent but it was the only part of the meal that I would recommend. The staff opens all of the doors in the morning to let the fresh air in and the smell of old, dirty carpets out. There are layers and layers of paint over doors and woodwork that would be best served by Being sanded down and refinished with an attractive finish to showcase the word rather than dark brown paint. There is no elevator available because the building is a historic building. This is problematic if a guest is in a wheelchair or otherwise handicapped. My mother is severely handicapped and was given a room with a bathtub with a 3 foot ledge which she could not possibly get in in order to shower. Neither the heater in my mother's room nor the heater in our adjoining room where ever affective to increase the temperature of the rooms beyond about 68 or 69°F. Although the staff were pleasant for the price this was a very disappointing experience.

Decent

Posted Oct 30, 2017
The air conditioning was broken, the bathroom not entirely spotless, definitely dust and dirt collected over time. The water pressure was harsh, almost like a hose. The shower curtain didn’t stop the shower from spraying and leaking all over the bathroom floor. Decently clean and priced accordingly for the area. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant downstairs is convenient.

Local places to eat are excellent. Lot of history goes with this tavern. Breakfast was good. Old carpeting gives hotel an odd smell.

Old Hotel (Historic) with oldtime hospiltality

Posted Sep 4, 2017 on Hotels
Very cozy and warm lobby and staff couldn't be more accommodating. Restaurant was very good with a great menu. Room was large and clean and the bed extremely comfortable. We were very happy with our hotel pick and will stay here again for sure.

I appreciated that they did a lot to maintain the historical charm of the building, can be even better but really not bad at all :)

Beautiful old hotel

Posted Aug 31, 2017
Beautiful old hotel. Dogs welcome for $10 each per night. Three floors but no elevator. You will have to drag your suitcases and your stuff up to your room. But the rooms are elegant and the ambience is wonderful. Live piano music on the weekends. Fabulous restaurant. Be sure to try the brussel sprouts. Bring a book and enjoy a big fireplace. If you have dogs they have a dining area set aside where you can eat with your dogs. Loved it here.

Nice, pet-friendly hotel in Souther California

Posted Aug 29, 2017 on Hotels
Overall our stay was good. The local area is quiet but not a lot to do. Ventura is a nice city that is short drive away. You also have the option of driving down the coast. The hotel was in good condition for a pet friendly hotel. A lot of historic character to the building. Although we didn't use it, they do offer a complimentary breakfast and there is an Italian restaurant in the lobby. Our room could have been a little cleaner (I blame that on watching Hotel Impossible). The staff was very friendly and helpful when needed.
