RUN-DOWN FLEABAG "LOST OUR RESERVATION", NO ROOMS!

Pros: No positive factors. Sketchy neighborhood. Used to be a Best Western, but lost their franchise rights due to property condition and other problems.
Cons: No hotel should "lose" reservations! There is obviously a BIG problem with the Golden Host communicating with Expedia.
After my late flight into Sarasota, I wanted to get some rest for the night. I'd made a reservation via Expedia several weeks earlier. When I arrived at the hotel to check in, I was told that they did not have my reservation, and further, that the hotel was fully booked and they had NO ROOMS available!!! I scrambled to find another room at a hotel anywhere in the area, and wound up having to not only pay almost FOUR TIMES AS MUCH at the last minute for one of the only rooms available in town several miles away, and had to pay for my own taxi to get there! The front desk clerk said (unhelpfully) that "sometimes reservations from Expedia 'get lost'." He gave me a drink ticket at the hotel bar while I waited while he somehow tried to resolve the situation, but if they were full, I knew there was no hope, so after several failed attempts, I finally found a room available at another hotel about four miles north. The kicker is that when I returned from my trip, there was a phone message from the Golden Host about "reconfirming" my reservation - which I've NEVER had to do with Expedia in 12+ years. They obviously HAD gotten the info from Expedia, and were lying to me about not getting it. I can only assume they decided to sell my room for more.

Pool was closed by the city but was told it was ok

Room are old and not very clean needs updated and pool needs to be cleaned and redone and was closed by city and was told to go in anyway. Free breakfast was honey bun pastry type and cereal with milk sitting out and was going sour. The bar needs updated but was ok because the bartender was very pleasant.

Pros: everything loved the Tiki Bar at the Resort!
Cons: put umbrellas out around pool and patio
Location: center of everything Ringling Museum and Jungle Gardens
Cool older resort well kept big pool, private balcony, big room and every thing you need in it.

Location: great location close to everything!
Neat older resort Hotel big pool, tiki bar on site, go for the upgraded pool side rooms. cant beat the price they even throw in breakfast.

Great Value for the Money!

Pros: The Price! and the Great Tiki Lounge on site!
Cons: They should get the on site Restaurant opened back up that would make this place the perfect destination!
Location: Great Location minutes from our meetings as well as the Ringling Museum and Jungle Gardens. Think I will come back with the wife and do the sites.
I have stayed a lot in Sarasota for business and it is not cheap. Was going to Convention over the weekend with some Friends so as we were not bringing the wives thought we would get away with cheap accommodations. Well Golden Host was the Cheapest and boy were we pleasantly surprised. It is a retro type looking resort from the 50's and even had a Great Bar on site looked like something out of Mad Men, Big room with private Balconies over looking the pool (we did upgrade for 18.00 for the view and bigger room with private Balcony well worth it) Big pool and Courtyard, friendly staff, room had every thing double sinks, coffee maker, Iron and Board, built in Hair Dryer. They even Had a Free Breakfast in the Lobby! There were 6 of us so we rented 3 rooms and we all felt the same a real hidden jewel! Most of us had been to Sarasota before and all agreed this was our new go to Hotel for that area. Sorry the Restaurant on site was closed as that would have made it perfect! You cant beat this Hotel for the Money stayed at Far worse for far more Money in Sarasota.

Definitely enjoyed our stay. Just one night but will definitely make a point to stay there again on our next trip to Sarasota.

Pros: Near the beach
Cons: cleanness, I would recommend vending machine with snacks,
Location: not much around
The first night we had emergency personnel come to the hotel for a person screaming with a panic attack, The second night someone decided to explode fire crackers around 1:30pm waking me up, will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Thanks for your feedback! Both those incidents were extremely unusual, and we can assure you that such occurrences almost never happen at our property. The firecrackers were not done on our property either, it was from a property nearby (I checked myself). Normally it is quiet and calm at the Golden Host!

Pros: Nice and neat abd clean and the personal are friendly and happy all the time.Always smileing.
Cons: There could be microwaves and refrigerators in all the rooms
Location: We go to the beach and pinecraft.
We enjoy this motel as it is close to downtown and all the things we like to do and see while we are in town.The beach is not that far away and traffic isn't bad either.

Would recommended this hotel. The staff was polite and the room was really clean. It's a bit out dated but for the price it was perfect.
