Front office issues

We got "scolded" for not checking in before our departure (we stayed 2 nights);however, the office had such limited hours we were out enjoying our vacation and came back to a closed office everytime.....We arrived 8:30p our first night so the office left a note saying our keys were in our door. We came back after a day of sightseeing our second night to a note saying we needed to urgently check-in ;however, the office was closed. We checked out the next morning and were told the hotel would have to suffer administrative penalties for us not registering within 24 hours of our arrival. Seems to me their limited office hours made it next to impossible. If it was so urgent, they should have listed their hours and told us to come to register on the note they left on our door. Either case, it is unprofessional to blame the customer. Coffee/sugar and dish soap/towels would've been a nice, standard addition.
