Quaint
Positives were that is was very quaint, beautiful view from balcony, excellent bed, and excellent food. Negatives were bees in the room and narrow roads to get up the mountain. It is located in the mountains about 15 minutes from Lake Como.

The breakfast was stunning - fresh and homemade. The scenery was beautiful as were the dinners that we had at the hotel. A nice but long walk down to the lake, very picturesque.

Lovely farmyard stay
Beautiful stay, a little difficult to get to initially but well worth it! Very friendly staff and lovely food. Amazing views from all over the residence.

We will not return
The staff at this hotel were very nice and accommodating. However, it is not a place I want to stay again. First, the drive up the mountain to get to it was quite harrowing and seemed to take forever. Our room had a comfortable bed, the most comfortable bedding we've had during our two-week stay in Italy. I did not like the ants and other insects in our room. We had purchased some pastries and had to throw them away because of ants. The breakfast was free but very sparse and there were ants crawling on the table where the food was being served. The wifi in our room was very strong. Unfortunately, our room was close to the hotel entrance and we had noise from someone playing the piano.

Dear Madame Dr. Cynthia, thanks for your stay and for your feedback ... So, i'm happy that you have appreciated our hospitality and our standard double room and the wi-fi connection ... However, i'm sure me too, that our natural contest and authentic farm holidays experience (we are not an hotel and we are in a mountain / natural contest, like you have wrote you too, just up the lake Como ...), it's not a best place / solution for you ...: in full Spring, here, it's normal to have some little ants (a temporary phenomena, that expire naturally, after 3/4 weeks maximum ...), the we cant block it, with the normal and daily cleaning's service, correctly provided to your room, during your short stay (2 night ...). About the piano's music, it's really strange, because only in the early evening, eventually and not frequently, we have some Guest, maybe, that he can be happy to play our ancient piano ..., located in the main dining/breakfast hall; so really near to your room (room n° 4 ...). However, in this case, was be enough to exit from your room, and to inform the Direction, shortly, about the music's problem ... Many thanks however for your stay and have a nice come back in the USA ... Kind Regards,

The tranquillity of al marnich
This hotel was quite a surprise,positioned quite high up the mountain this quaint hotel was a surprise with spectacular views unfortunately can't see lake como from here but mountain views are spectacular but you do need transport as it is not near any amenities

Arrived at this hotel with my family and were escorted to the room that turned out to be quite dark, basic and smelled like cellar. Had to leave to another hotel losing the non-refundable payment. The manager was rather kind to reimburse us the money we prepaid for the half-board.

Dear Pavel, the smell of this room, like i have already explained you, was caused from the natural wood inside and a particular meteo's condition of those day, with too umidity (wet, after strong raining and after hot temperature ...): we are an ancient farm and our rooms are recovered with natural materials, like wood and original local stones ... Never other Guest before and after your advance check-out, have signalated us of this smell's problem in this room and about the lost of the B&B's rate, i have immeditely offer you to change the room, with an other without wood and in very high position (panoramic ...) and with a more modern style ...: you have refuded and preferred to leave, knowing that you will haad lost the prepayed rate/amount ... We have also, exceptionally for you, refunded the HB rate always prepayed and normally, not refundable ... Kind Regards, Agriturismo Al-Marnich

Beware if you're a backpacker
If you are a backpacker without a mode of transportation, do not stay here. My girlfriend and I hiked - literally a vertical hike - nearly 2 km to get to the hotel with all of our luggage, without warning. Once we got to the top we were kindly greeted and taken to our room by one of the receptionists. After we explained that we were worn out from our hike, the receptionist insisted that we allow her to get us something to drink. We assumed it was complimentary, we were wrong. We ate dinner here because there was virtually no way down or back up after dark without a car, and we were pleased with the service and the food. The cook was excellent! The room itself was also very nice and tidy and came with everything we needed as well as a balcony that had awesome views of the Schigano.

Dear Kayla, thanks for your kind feedback and normally, we have many Guests like "backpacker", that love the low montains and the various possibles excursions, in our area ... We offer a free pick-up service from Schignano or Argegno, but we need to know of your arrival in advance and that it's not during the breakfast, lunch or dinner's time, because we are fully busy with the restaurant/check-out's service ... We have a local partner for trasports in the lake Como area also (local TAXI's service ...), that is the cheaper in the zone ... It's available some public transport also, from Schignano's village and from Argegno's village, but in this case, i dont suggest to use it, because not very frequent service ... However, i'm really happy that you have enjoyed our food and i'm sorry for the mistake about the drinks during your check-in ...: normally, we offer always a welcome's drink, but i think that my Collegue have bad marked your order and we have calculated it on the final bill, for error ... Wonderful different type of place to stay, if you like views quirky accommodation and good honest food with friendly people look no further. Lynda our waitress was lovely and made us very welcome, we will go back but this time for longer

The hotel was exactly what you would expect, a lovely little hideaway in the mountains with lovely rooms and staff who were very friendly and extremely helpful. Could'nt have stayed at a nicer place

It took a little while to climb up the winding roads, but worth it for the view at the top. The food is first rate -- all homemade and delicious. We had an excellent dinner and the breakfast was one of the best I've had. The room had a lot of character, not huge but comfortable enough. I would only hope for more attention to detail in the cleaning, but I would stay here again.

This place is awesome ! Nature is refreshing, room was comfortable and food was excellent (of course is not a luxury hotel) but I will recommend this place for everyone who wants to have a great experience with nature and Italian food.

One of the last bastions of authenticity
The Agriturismo Al Marnich is one of the few remaining authentic, family-run agriturismo, serving locally grown, homemade food both at breakfast and dinner. I travel quite a bit around the world and every year I find there are fewer and fewer authentic, family-run hotels/restaurants. Unfortunately, many close and are replaced by hotel chains that all look exactly the same, more or less like an airport terminal. So it is truly refreshing and gives me hope when every once in a while I am still able to come across a place like Al Marnich, which is still anchored in its historical, geographical and cultural surroundings. In addition the staff was most kind and welcoming. They served us delicious food even though we arrived late due to a long drive. The breakfast included local jam, cheese and cold-cuts. I plan to return as soon as I get the chance...

Very disappointing.
Very disappointing. We expected a good-sized character room after studying the photos - we were allocated the tiny Room 11 as "we don't give the bigger rooms to guests staying only one night". The room was a single room with a double bed in it - I had to climb over my husband to get into bed! We were looking forward to the usual good food you find in an Agriturismo, but it was mediocre at best - very basic salad buffet (grated carrot, sliced tomatoes, cold pasta salad, etc) and the hyped "mixed grill" was thin strips of meat, a kebab etc(and a hamburger!). The "fixed price" for the meal was much too high, and drinks were extra. The views were good, but over the valley - you can't see the lake. Not worth the half hour drive up from Como to the hotel on a dreadful road.

Dear Madame Elizabeth, first of all, you have booked a standard double room and not a superior double room (it's the cheaper and smaller room that we have and we have only 3 rooms, of this cathegory...: on the website is indicated the approximate size of this room's cathegory and that the standard double rooms are without balcony or terrace...). However, normally the standard double room and in particolar the room n° 11 (where you have stayed...), is appreciated by our guests, for shorts stays...: 1/2 nigths... About the dinner, i have personally and correctly explained you, during the check-in, that on Wednesday the Chef is in day off and that we guarantee the restaurant's service however, but with a fixed menu "Barbecue", with a "cold Buffet" + a main dish based on local grilled meat (Alias...: "barbecue" on a local stone...: very special and normally much appreciated....). The price i have also correctly communicate to you in advance, that is always...: 25.00 Euro per person (Buffet + Main Grilled Menu), drinks excluded. Good value for the money
This property is a working farm, but the family that owns/runs it also rent out rooms as a B&B. The room we had was small, but clean and reasonably comfortable. It's a ways out from everything, so one needs a car to get from place to place. Food was good, albeit somewhat pricey, but we knew that going in.

Great get away
This was a great place to get away from the crowds and traffic. Hotel was rustic, but loved the view and the staff there was friendly and helpful. Wonderful breakfast included and supper menu was yummy as well. They raise many of the fruits and veggies, and make their own cheese and jams.

I had a wonderful time at Agriturismo Al Marnich. It's a homey feeling and the view is great. I usually wake-up w/ a panoramic view of the mountain. If u like to trek and enjoy the view, this is the place. Food is great. They make their own cheese, salami and all the foods were harvested from their farm. The only setback is the transport. Since it's on top of the mountain, transport is difficult. It's good that Antonio is very accomodating and sent me to town w/ his car. There was supposed to be an airport shuttle which should have cost me 180 euros return trip but was not available. I hired a taxi instead for a return trip to the airport which costs me 280 euro. Most of the staffs can't speak english as well, so they ring Antonio if I've got a message or passed me on to the lovely lady chef. Regardless of transport and non-english speaking staffs...i will still come back to the place! <3

Too Isolated and Rustic for Us
I found the location extremely difficult to find and am sure that even Sir Edmond Hillery's sherpa JAMLING would be confused and lost finding his way. My GPS kept saying " I'm lost too!" If you eat in their restaurant the food is disappointing and the prices are high. The morning breakfast was disappointing also. The only good thing at breakfast was the home made bread and the raspberry torte.We stayed 4 nights, would have left earlier but they would not allow us to shorten our stay without a full charge. It was 9.5 k's down to lake Como on a treacherous road. Our room was big enough but the bathroom was very poorly designed. I think that the bathroom sink was added as an after thought. The sink was right in front of the toilet and you had to slide sideways into the toilet. I found it difficult as they wanted to run a tab for everything. I would not recommend this place. Might be in the mountains...
A nice hotel, which is about 10 mins drive up the hill, but has spectacular views over the hills to lake como. The staff are all very pleasant and work hard. The rooms are all clean and very well equipped. The restaurant was well priced and did a limited but excellent menu which changes each night.

Considering that we didn't stay at this place on this occasion, the review may seem odd...but hear me out. We booked through Expedia for the second time in three weeks (traveling through to southern Italy). The first time I've already reviewed. This time, sadly, despite paying there was an overbooking. Unlike other places where we have been overbooked via Expedia, these people were really helpful. Other places have always said "We've no room, sorry" and left you to your peril. Not these people. They offered us a choice of three possible alternatives in the area. We chose one in the same road and they took care of everything else - transferred the booking, the payment and ensuring that the breakfast was included too - all of this while remaining very pleasant. Despite the overbooking, the experience turned out to be great and I left with an even better opinion of the owners than I had following our previous stay. It really is the people that make a difference in so many cases. Following their actions here, we will seek them out whenever we are passing through. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Having stayed here, the reviews seen on Trip Advisor etc were put into perspective. People really shouldn't moan about a working farm having a cockerel that crows early in the morning or a slightly bumpy bit of road at the front of it. As for people who complain that it's up a mountain, I can only assume they have no idea of the area of Como. So, what is this place like for those who do know the area and understand what happens on a working farm? Pretty typical really, with one notable exception: the views. Being high up, the views over the hills is stunning and on a sunny day, lounging in one of their chairs is a real pleasure.

Beautiful place well worth the long winding road!
About 25 minutes up a winding road from Lake Como are some charming little villages and here you find this beautiful farm/guest house. The personal touch applied by the staff is warm and welcoming, the home cooked food delicious including home made goat cheese and honey. The spectacular views also off the possibility of a hike to the ridge line where an incredible view of Lake Como awaits those with strong knees! Dog lovers will revel in the company of two Pyrenean mountain dogs! we'd definitely come back here.

Way out of the way. and tough to find. Even took several attempts with the GPS. Staff was nice but take care to pick your room. Avoid room 1 - very tight, small window provides no ventilation or view. Slept part of the night with door open to get cool air flow (not the safest idea). Being on a farm was interesting. Loved the breakfast and dinner. This is a unique experience. Hot water was busted the day we were there.

All round, a very pleasant stop-off on road from UK to Rome (9/10 hrs driving from Calais). A bit of a trek up the mountain to find, but worth the drive- great views too. Peace amid the goats and the trees but within reach of Como and the crowds. Restaurant very pleasant for an evening meal and a good breakfast. Nice walking in the hills directly from the hotel- the dogs approved.

We had a wonderful break here. Our kids are 8, 5 & 3 and they loved running around the place, playing with the lovely friendly dogs and looking at the goats & chickens. The staff were very fiendly & helpful. The drive up is a little adventurous but don't be put off, it's worth it. If you come with kids, bring suitable clothes so they can get dirty and then let them go and you relax. We forgot to bring gumboots and their shoes were very muddy. Our only slightly negative comment is that during our stay, the weather was cool but the restaurant building was completely overheated (we were sweating even in tee shirts) and our apartmetn was also too warm with no possibilitiy to adjust the temp. Small grumbles though, generally highly recommended.

Someone from the farm house picked myself and my sister up at the train station in Como and drove us to the hotel up the mountain. There was a fee but it was cheaper than the taxi service in Como. Beautiful countryside and the mountain was beautiful. They served great food both for the evening meal and the breakfast service. Staying there for more than one night would be great and also very relaxing.

Honestly don't have a bad thing to say about this find of a retreat... and as a keen racing cyclist, having my bike with me to enjoy the awesome Lombardia riding territory was fantastic. My fiancee also enjoyed the experience too; the views from the room and the friendly warm reception from the staff was incredible. The meals consisted of farm grown and local produce , so although we had a hire car, most nights chose to eat there. My only reservation about giving this review is that more people will find out about it and the money will go up=)

An absolute treat of a hotel.
We visited Lake Como on a Sunday. The views were wonderful, and we really enjoyed the drive from Garda, however what came next disappointed us immensely. Most things were closed, we couldn't find some of the specific attractions we were looking for and in truth, we simply had a bad day there. One could say nothing went our way. Fortunately, we had decided to get to the hotel earlier than expected. It was quite a long drive, but undoubtedly very pretty. It felt like we found our home in the north of Italy. The view was outstanding, the staff were extremely friendly, the food was delicious and very clever. We wanted to book more nights, and we'd have done so if it wasn't for lack of time. We highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Very small room, one small window covered by the headboard, bath 2 steps down, to go outside 3 steps up. Food was not to my taste and the location was 20 minute drive or more from the main road. Also the roosters at 04:30 were not appreciated. I would not recommend and would not go there again.

An absolute joy!
Once you have found this wonderful farmhouse in the mountains it is a true pleasure you made the effort. If it's rustic old fashioned pleasure you are seeking, you will not go wrong. The home made salami and cheese is worth the effort in itself, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms are all individally decorated and very basic. Bed, wardobe, shower and a view to die for, but that's all you need for a relaxing and quiet stay in this lovely part of Italy.
Probably the best view from a car park in Europe!
