Today's sunset from my bus stop. I've been trying to find a fun way to photograph the art: Did you know Thailand has it's own style of ice cream? The chefs here couldn't find any in US, so they traveled to Thailand and learned how to make it themselves. The result: The creamiest, most flavorful coconut ice cream you can imagine. The Thai tea ice cream was tasty too, but not as creamy - it had a somewhat crumbly texture. Next time we'll be trying the lychee and longan flavors. Yum! Fall has come! At Bellevue Right off exit 7 on i90, both westbound and eastbound, you’ll be able to find this randomly beautiful sidewalk covered in red & yellow leaves. I can’t get enough of the fall colors! Blue Angels lining up all six-planes for a pass. This is a cooler photo than it looks, as it's taken a few miles from the flight line where the pilots are just coming together. By the time they reach the flight line there will be no gaps in the formation. Wonderful park located right off the exit 5 on I-405. It has multiple docks, picnic tables, swimming and kayaking areas, volleyball nets, tennis courts, kids playgrounds, a boat launch, and much more. It's quite well-known in the nearby areas, therefore, parking might be difficult on a sunny day. Foggy morning are my favorite. #foggy Sound of water at Bellevue Park! I work 5 minutes away from this wonderful park. It’s right on the waterfront and is beautiful all year round. There are docks, walking trails, children’s playgrounds, benches, picnic tables, and much more. Nice little spot :) The peacocks make an appearance at Garden d'Lights every year, so I'm not certain whether they are crafted anew each year, or just placed in storage. Either way, they are one of my favorite displays.
The show runs now through the end of the year, 5-10pm nightly. Get your $5 tickets ahead of time at http://www.gardendlights.org/. Dork Burger - blend of duck and pork meat, topped with Monterey jack cheese, onions and garlic mayo. What's that red sauce spilling out the side you ask? That's a helping of Satan's Tears ketchup (my own addition). Difficult to eat, but well worth the mess. One of my favorite all-time burgers. Flaming onion tower - a fun but pretty standard trick for a teppanyaki style dinner. Although the routine was standard, the food was quite tasty - my filet was perfectly cooked (medium-rare) and the shrimp were delicious. In combination with its fully stocked bar, this can be an entertaining evening out. Tater tot I ran into Tow Mater and Jack at a Bellevue classic car show. Jack built this amazing replica with Pixar's permission and takes it to events as a fundraiser. You can find him at This park is right off I-90 and is a beautiful place to watch the sunset! You can sit right up by the water. It's also not too busy usually! #GoldenHour Beautiful December morning at the Mercer Island Boat Launch. The i90 bridge is my absolute favorite to drive on and enjoy the scenery. Impressive bar in this teppanyaki steakhouse, both in terms of liquors available and fanciful lighting. The drink menu had nearly 100 listings, and I made vigorous use of the iBartender app to evaluate my options. I ended up with a house special Bonzai followed by a Plantar's Punch, while my wife went for a flaming Red Bull (Red Bull, amaretto, and 151). Velociraptor Skeleton origami by Hieu Tran Trung. This impressive piece was over a foot long (30cm) and was formed by piecing together 70 sheets of uncut paper, held together with wire and glue. The detail around the eye socket was particularly impressive.
Hieu Tran Trung is a chemistry teacher living in Vietnam. He is fascinated by origami and dinosaurs, and specializes in constructing sculptural recreations of dinosaur skeletons.
Folding Paper: The Infinite Possibilities of Origami is a traveling exhibit featuring 142 works by 45 master folders. The exhibit explores the evolution of origami from craft to fine art and its modern-day applications in the fields of mathematics, engineering, and design. Read more about it at http://bit.ly/1wbYYSk. You can catch it now in Bonita Springs, Florida, and next year in Utah, Louisiana, and Idaho. Silhouette. #goldenhour Expedia dot cooooooooom Every December the botanical gardens are transformed into a light display that is amazing. Light flowers, plants, butterflies, you name it... it's all made of christmas lights!! it's D'light-ful!!! #localgem #colorful Chihuly artworks hanging in the lobby of Lincoln Square. Next to it is this waterfall cascading behind a glass spanning 3 floors. It brings them to life on those beautiful clear Seattle Summer day! Decadent, #delicious croissants! If you spot one of these booths at a Northwest fair, be sure to join the line and grab a scone (or two or twelve). They're only $1.50 and come topped with whipped butter and local raspberry jam.
If you can't make it to a fair, you can still pick up their scone mix at a local grocery (and sometimes Costco too). This particular booth was at the annual Bellevue Arts Festival.
Fisher began selling scones at the
Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915 and later at the Puyallup Fair in Washington state. The idea was to promote their flour, but the fair scones quickly attracted a loyal following of their own. They now sell millions of scones each year, and still serve them from the same exact booth at the Puyallup Fair. Alligator arrangement from Garden d'Lights. A number of critters are French pastry shop in Old Bellevue serving up classic pastries (pain au chocolate, croissants and eclairs) as well as cookies and cakes. Kimchi fried rice. So #delicious ! This Iced Shellfish Bowl was part of my birthday celebration this year 😻 #seafood #restaurants #foodiefinds I stopped by this place today before the foliage turn brown as the season gets ready for Fall. It is a great place to escape the city yet it is less than 10 minutes from the heart of Downtown Bellevue. Only the local residents maybe aware of this hidden treasure.
It is a perfect place to enjoy a peaceful walk or sit down admire nature has to offer. There are so many species of plants and floral that you just spend the whole afternoon. #LoveMyTown I stopped by this place today before the foliage turn brown as the season gets ready for Fall. Get it to go or dine off a tray attached to your door. Open till 1am on weekends, midnight otherwise. A Coca-Cola Freestyle - mix your own soda from more than 125 flavors, including novelties such as vanilla coke and grape sprite. The cool space-age cabinetry was designed by Pininfarina, which also designs Ferraris and Maseratis. Surely this is a precursor to a Star Trek replicator. I needed to add some roughage and fiber to my steak lunch...so I ordered some tempura bacon! Yum. Applewood Grilled King Salmon, basted with garlic, lemon, and vermouth, citrus curry sauce, red beans and rice. #delicious Favorite Dog Park #travel #adventure #beach #nature I stopped by this place today before the foliage turn brown as the season gets ready for Fall. Facing East is basically the best Taiwanese/Chinese restaurant I've eaten at in Seattle. It's a definitely must-go! It can get pretty busy but not crazily so since it's a ways away from downtown. At the Factoria Market Place Classic Car Show. The burger, shake and fries look real enough to make my mouth water! Rotary Park next to the Mercer Island Library Insane Sundae! A shot at Pike Place Market on Christmas Day...the only day you’ll find it this quiet. Lunch with the Trover dev team (best dev team in the world!). The burger didn't look the best, bread a bit hard, but the meat was as you'd expect pretty amazing... Hood ornament from a 1934 Pontiac Convertible, as seen at the Old Rides Car Club show. I almost want one of these to mount on my hood - so much cooler than a boring BMW roundel.
About 50 cars turned up for the show, including a number of 1930s era restorations, 1950s era large-finned classics, and even a few more recent novelties like a 1990s Ferrari Testarossa. View the complete show schedule at www.oldridescarclub.com. A nice view from a library window... This QFC (grocery store) has a beer and wine bar... and apparently local breweries sometimes stop by! Awesome!
In the photo: 7 Seas Brewing (Gig Harbor, WA) Sampler Huge and delicious sandwiches here. A bit pricey. Go with soup / half sandwich combo. Little gem super close to downtown Bellevue! The view from Bellevue office 😮 The Smoker Eggs on stilts at the Bellevue Transit Center. The Saturday market is up and running through Nov 19th at the First Congressional Church off NE 8th St. Plenty of free parking, so stop by between 10 and 3 to stock your kitchen with farm-fresh fruits, veggies, cheeses, meats, breads, pastries and more. Roma tomato, basil, shaved garlic, and mozzarella pizza from the happy hour (all day, every day) menu. Delicious! I also love their cranberry mojito. Key West Pie milkshake, served in a beaker with a test tube spike of Midori Melon and Absolute Vanilla. A bit subtle on the key lime flavor, but the spike livened things up. Best #delicious 'wurst dish I've tasted. This place is authentic Thai food in both flavor and texture! This is the pork belly with crispy basil. And I also recommend the refreshing vegetarian salad rolls with peanut sauce.
Lovely ambiance, and for some reason we heard an instrumental version of Part of Your World play as their music.
Interestingly, they steam their salmon in banana leaves with what they say is the same flavor and texture as in Bangkok City...not for everyone, but they are gracious about offering a substitution if it's not to your liking :) Where else can your kid 'drive' a Peterbilt truck? This children's museum has good hours and easy parking to boot. Saffron rice, garlic, and powerful middle eastern flavors = the chicken shawarma. Serving sizes are very generous too so I often split a dish with a friend. Art and Autumn just outside the Bellevue Library (@kcls). Nice outdoor space and plenty of resources indoors, including study/meeting rooms. Pretty decent conveyer belt sushi. Better than Blue C Sushi in my opinion, and cheaper. For ~$10 you can get your fill of various rolls and nigiri. You won't be blown away, but it's fast and easy. Oysters & hanger steak with (spicy!!) daikon. Big space, helpful staff, delicious food, and a good beer menu. I was pleased to see some older customers (who probably have grandchildren my age) enjoying a gastropub. I believe this venue is 21+ only. #oysterlove Alvarez Farms is your source for peppers, both hots (jalapeños, habaneros, poblanos, etc) and bells (green, red, yellow, orange and lilac). I'd never seen a purple bell before! Delicious chocolate lives here :) Eastside's best gourmet burgers, fries and shakes at this tiny pub-inspired restaurant. The mushroom burger is fantastic and pairs nicely with a thick root beer shake. Surprisingly good sushi spot. As usual, I recommend sitting at the sushi bar and ordering directly from the chefs. If you want a sashimi plate at Musashi's, you can order their chirashi with no rice. :)
Reminder: They don't take cards! Check & cash only. Nice little park. I enjoyed walking around in the rain... and later heard that this photo (also posted on Instagram) was featured on King 5 news that day! I love the Internet. :) Sunset #LifeAtExpedia Happy Hour grilled cheese sammich! Nasu Dengaku at Flo. Other winners: Toro sashimi and unagi sushi (best in town). Duck fat home fries brought me in, and I wasn't disappointed. Great place for an easy, low key weekend brunch. Fun French-inspired menu features crepes, hashes, quiches, French toast and more. Nutella shake. Yum. Pretty mocha! Popular spot for work meetings. Wifi speed seems good! Nice park for a walk and a view :) Good happy hour food (4-6?) and live jazz at 6pm on Fridays (and maybe other days... I should check!). Gorgeous Sunset views from here #citypark #park This is a once-upon-a-time gas station that has been turned into a tiny seafood market and (awesome) fish & chips spot. Love that they also offer beer. I decided to try the one-piece option because I didn't want too much food and they told me this was the kid-sized portion. I loved the fish and enjoyed the fries but definitely got way too much food... -_- Check out the random art! Grab a beer and slide some pucks at this new Eastside bar. Reviews have been mixed so far, but here are a couple of tips. First, try to sit in the back. It's not as loud, the seating is more spacious, and that's where you'll find the shuffleboards. Second, if you need some grub, the brisket nachos are the way to go. We also tried the pizza, but thought it was small for the money. Flaming brochette of tenderloin - times three for our table! Heavenly home made Chinese dumplings. It's in a mall, I know, but this place is great. Our friends from Bejing steered us here as the sister restaurant is there. Favorites were won ton soup, shrimp shu mai, sautéed spinach, and pork buns. Also, spicy cucumber salad. The staff from Olsen Farms will help you pick the proper spud. More than a dozen varieties to choose from - if you can't find it here you don't need it! Huge drink menu. For a different kind of pizza experience check out MOD, where they serve up personal-sized, made-on-demand pizzas for $7. Doesn't matter what toppings you choose, or how many, the price is fixed. The thin-crust pizza is then baked for a few minutes in a brick oven, and viola, your custom pizza is ready. Tasty shakes too. Marbled. Yum. Super new spot! As in Boat Noodles - Dark soy sauce’ pork blood served with bean sprout, Chinese broccoli, green onions, cilantro, toasted garlic, meatballs, pork rind, and pork meat. #delicous #foodporn Love their caprese sandwich (half) & baby greens side salad! Way better side salad than I was expecting... too many places serve bad side salads... I usually just stop by when I'm in the neighborhood and want a tasty beer (always happy w/ their options... yay, #wabeer), but this evening I decided to also try their simplest burger and their side salad. So good! #foodiefinds Incredible views of Seattle and the Olympics from the Expedia Building in Bellevue
#lifeatexpedia The new Jujubeet Cafe in Old Bellevue 💚 #foodiefinds !! Beautiful !! A stunning view of Seattle from the Expedia Inc. Bellevue headquarters.
#lifeatexpedia Tasty falafels and gyro salads at Bel Square. Hidden in the corner by Nordstrom. Get it 'spicy' for an extra treat. Go for the soup dumplings and spicy pork wontons. There is a bit of a ritual to the dumplings though - mix 3/4 vinegar to 1/4 soy sauce with the fresh ginger and dip the dumplings before placing them in your spoon. Then poke a hole in the dumplings to release the soup into your spoon, add a twig of the ginger, and devour.
This place can get busy, but later in the evening (~9pm) you can usually get a table straight away. we love this place, kinda fancy but not pretentious. Show up in a suit or jeans, doesn't matter. Friendly service team with food and wine smarts. Great for a special occasion or if your just want a really good steak. They give you a little gift box of chocolate at the end of your meal. Eddie Murphy would totally scream Re-discovering this park. Love walking around it! Saw sooooo many small dogs here today.
