Hilltop views of a lovely city

Posted Jan 23, 2016
We went in January, which is (by most accounts) a bad weather time in Seattle. At home in Minneapolis the morning wind chill was -27F. We had 50 and drizzle. So... I guess it is a matter of perspective. We came on an anniversary trip and went to all the tourist sites, Space needle, Glass gardens (AMAZING!!), Museum of Flight (could spend 2 days there and still want more), took ferry rides, ate fabulous food. The Hotel staff were great, always quick to offer help and advice about our plans for the day. We had a corner suite at the hotel and the views out our huge windows were great. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was huge and had marble tile everywhere... very swank! We will be doing this again!

holiday getaway

Posted Jan 13, 2016
we chose the hotel sorrento for a holiday city getaway of museums and dining. it is in a great location, first hill near capitol hill and lots of hip restaurants, etc. the hotel is beautifully historic and intimate yet grand. the atmosphere was perfect for the season. we were upgraded to a corner suite and the space was old time luxurious. lovely nostalgic piano bar music drifted up from the fireside lounge below. the bedroom was especially cozy and gracious. if it was an apartment we would live there. we loved our all too short stay there.

Seattle taxes on tourism dampen experience

Posted Jan 5, 2016
Pros: The professional and courteous staff. The historical beauty of the building.
Cons: Free parking. $39 is overtly excessive. Wall mounted High Definition TVs. Additional counter space for luggage and personal effects.
Location: Overpriced food. All of the walking distance eateries are passing along the nationally publicized wage increases and tourism taxes.
The Hotel Sorrento is pricing itself out of the average traveller's budget. Instead, because of the higher costs of living being imposed upon Seattle through policy shifts, the city fee recouping nickel and dime up charges are going to further discourage Seattle tourism. Gone are the days of free parking at your hotel. The Sorrento is charging $39 for the LUXURY of parking your car on their premises during one's stay. The parking lot across the street offers overnight parking for a little less at $24. All of the walking distance eateries are also passing along the nationally publicized wage increases and tourism taxes via significantly increased meal costs. ($10 for egg sandwich??? $3 donuts??? Really!!!???) The Sorrento hotel room, while very clean and comfortable, lacks any counter space to place your personal effects. The little there is taken up by a table mounted NON-HD TV whose screen is partially blocked by their extremely overpriced basket of snack goodies. Room service bacon and eggs cost $20 PLUS a $5 delivery charge PLUS a 20% GRATUITY TAX. All in all the Sorrento itself is historically beautiful, clean and staffed with professional and courteous people. But one should seriously consider staying in beautiful and affordable Tacoma, WA instead when planning their trip to our beautiful Puget Sound. Especially if you want to use some of your travel budget on more than just the accommodations alone.

Pleasant stay, a nostalgic step back into the past

Posted Jan 2, 2016
Pros: Nostalgic, historic taste of Seattle, restored with comfortable upgrades.
Cons: Lighting in room was poor.
Location: We stayed inside, our visit was for a one night get-a-way.
A great place to celebrate the New Year. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Was interesting to taste the splendor of what the turn of the last century might have been like. Our room could have used more lighting, other than that I was satisfied with our stay.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback. We are really pleased you had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the historical charm and the friendliness of our team. We agree with you on the challenges that some guestrooms have with lighting. With an older building, it is one of our biggest hurdles and are continuing to find new ways to add more lighting to those pesky darker spaces! Thank you again for your gracious feedback. We hope you'll return to visit us soon!

Not the best stay we have had at the Sorrento

Posted Dec 22, 2015
Pros: Location, old charm.
Cons: The dining experience, room service and training for staff.
Location: First Hill location is close to Cap Hill or Downtown.
We were so excited to go to the Sorrento. We were married there a few years ago so try to often go back. The check in process was quick and our room was clean. We ran into an issue with the resturaunt. We went down and waited for ten minutes standing there (no place to sit) in the middle of the resturaunt while the hostess set us up next to the loudest table. We sat down and waited for 15 minutes for someone to come say hello or take our drink order. It never happened so we went upstaires to get room service. We called and asked for a club sandwich with fries instead of chips and a different bread. We were told it woulkd be 30-45 minutes. Once it had been an hour we called down twice but our call was not answered. We called from a cell phone and got through. They said the food would be up shortly. They gave us chips and the wrong bread. My soup was cold. The checkout experience was quick and with a friendly staff member. I honestly don't know when we will be back.

Could Not Be Happier

Posted Dec 4, 2015
Pros: Location, staff, classic hotel feel.
Location: SAFE walking to Pike Place, local shops (breakfast cafe right across the street) and Broadway shopping district.
Charming hotel of the classic grand hotel style ( think Grand Budapest Hotel ). Safe, secure, comfortable. Easy walking distance to all. Staff knowledgeable and aggressively willing to accommodate. I called ahead of check-in to get local fresh flowers and the coinage offered to make the purchase for me and have the flowers in the room before check-in. What service.

great central Seattle location.

Pros: charm and comfort
Location: read the review above
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel smacks of charm and character. We would highly recommend. If there was one flaw, it was whenever we called the front desk, the call was never answered. This happened on three separate occasions. We did take the 15 min walk into the downtown area, and a number of the guests were walking to the Seahawk game, so the location was great!

Wonderful staff at a beautiful, historic hotel

Posted Nov 28, 2015
Every single staff member that we encountered was incredibly friendly, and they were always helpful. The hotel is very close to Pike's place and many other things downtown. The parking is the typical $39 a night, but the valet was very convenient.
