Locatuon great. Lovely spot in Seoul. Lots of good restaurants. Great Korean breakfast. Could leave bags after checkout on final day. Downside was leaky pipe that was simple to fix but no one did
It has an atmosphere of a traditional Korean dwelling but with some modern touches (e.g. electrical appliances and nice restroom). The host is very friendly, helpful and was outside waiting for me along the main road as the place is not exactly easy to find. Also, the guesthouse is strategically located to attractions as well as the bus stop and metro.
The check in directions were very helpful and he communicated through messages leading up to the day of arrival. The guesthouse is very beautiful and clean. The washrooms have shampoo and conditioner for guests. The traditional breakfast was included and very tasty. There is also a water machine (both hot and cold), and coffee packets. After check out, they graciously allowed us to store our luggage there for the day, free of charge.
Great breakfast, charming neighborhood, and beautiful home!

Good location
Good location near exit 1 of Anguk station if you know the way . Nice warm room with heated up floor for a cold winter stay . Will recommended to those who want to experience the Korean traditional house stay .
The maze that often constitutes the streets where hanoks are found would make it a bit difficult to find on one`s own but most taxi drivers can get you close enough. It had just four units which was ideal. There was a mix of local and foreign travelers over the four nights. Soap, shampoo and conditioner were available. The rooms do not have en suites but it was never a problem. The local is very good for palaces and visiting the Bukchon area. It was a Korean breakfast and a tasty one at that. The chap who checked us in spoke English. With the heated flooring, the rooms were a bit warm for sleeping. A subway stop was just minutes away. The place provided a good introduction to hanok life.
We had a great stay at this traditional style home in Seoul. Our host was very helpful and friendly. The guesthouse is in a great location with shops, cafe', and public transportation, within walking distance to the palaces and museums. It is also very easy to get to from Incheon airport by bus.
We strongly suggest it to fellow travelers who are adventurous, and look for a different experience while on the road.
The room is a very clean and quiet Hanok room. The bedding was quite comfortable. The traditional Korean breakfast was AMAZING and the staff was very kind and professional. This is a home that has been lovingly kept in the family for over 100 years! It's worth a short stay to have the Hanok experience. It's also within walking distance of Insadong and of course you'll be in the Bukchon Hanok Village so you can walk around there easily as well.
I guess most people who book a Hanok are aware but this is not a luxury stay. The room is small, as expected, your bedding are a thin tatami, hard pillow (strangely comfortable, I think there's buckwheat inside or something similar) and a blanket. There are plugs, ac unit, a TV, hairdryer and very small towels (in large quantity).
The room is bare but lovely.
The shower system, as it seems quite common thing there, is made up of a sink, inclined floor and a shower head, all in the same space with toilet next to it. It is clean but will surprise some people.
Unlike what most people said about Korean toilets, they seemed to be working quite well and you could throw paper in it.
Breakfast is prepared fresh at 8am sharp so oversleeping is not an option. It's a delicious vegetarian (probably even vegan) Bibimbap. There's also tea and coffee available.
Hosts are very helpful and welcoming and happy to help. English is spoken but limited although I did not have any issues understanding or being understood.
So Hyosundang has actually three houses and I had lived in two of them.
It actually depends on your luck which you are assigned.
Overall, The PROS:
1. the staffs (the owner and the ajuma who's cleaning up and making breakfasts), are so nice. (But could be mad if you forgot to change the sleepers in the shared bathroom).
2. The guesthouses are VERY near to Anguk station, but inside alleys, which could be a bit hard to find.
3. Super nice neighbourhood. People near the guesthouse is willing to show me the road and are all so kind~ Restaurants near Anguk station are nice too! (Much better then restaurants you can find in Myeongdong) So local!
4. SUPER NICE BREAKFAST
So, the two houses have different situations.
First house (where the owner lived there too) :
1. Super small garden yard
2. not hygienic, full of flies during summer time.
Second house (we moved to a second house the other day)
1. Much bigger and nice garden yard
2. More hygienic (but still a few flies)
3. Much better than the first house.
Overall, the breakfast is really good, and it's a very nice experience living in a hanok.
Inside the room there's air-conditioning. Be ready for shared bathrooms (some rooms have it's own private bathroom).
Recommended for people who love to try~
I loved the convenience of the hotel being very close to Anguk station, insadong, and bukchon. I can walk to changyeongung palace too. I enjoyed immersing myself in the culture and staying in a hanguk helped with that. The staff were friendly and made the best bibimbap for breakfast! The floor was hard to sleep on the first night but I folded the comforter in half and slept on one half on the futon for more cushion and it was perfect. Also the floor is heated. I would recommend staying there and giving it a try.
We stayed 4 nights in double room (ondol). The room was very small. The bathroom is outside and we need to wear jacket to go to toilet and shower. The bathroom was very cold inside and is awful taking a shower in that temperature. In Hyosundang guesthouse, the toilet water was not hot enough and was not comfortable for shower.
We choose to stay here because of its close proximity to Anguk Station and the Airport Bus Service
We spent four days here and they were nice enough to upgrade the two of us to a bigger room by day 3. It is very homy and the heated floor is just wonderful to sleep on (through the futon)! The place was amazingly clean, including the shared washrooms.
I highly recommend the place, but there are a few things I'd remind others before booking. I went through a bunch of reviews before booking, which already gave me some ideas about the place: washrooms are shared and outside, the rooms are smaller than what you'd get in a hotel room, one may hear other guests in the room beside yours, and one may need to wait for their turns for the delicious and free breakfast. Knowing what to expect ahead of time, we truly enjoyed our stay in the traditional house, and it was a great experience.
Had a lovely time at the Hanok, was there alone so the room, although small, was adequate for my belongings and me. Despite being the middle of winter, the room was surprisingly warm, the underfloor heating is superb. Was not situated in the main house so had to walk to get to breakfast, but it was very lovely. Would definitely recommend others try out this experience, there are many traditional things to do in the area, is a great place to stay for one or two nights. Fairly simple to find for me
Perfect location to tour Seoul. Easy access to public transportation and markets.
Great host. Place was neat and full of charm. Traditional breakfast was delicious. Great place to get a feel for the culture of Korea.
It was a great stay, the owner was nice to prepare us traditional korean breakfast. It was an easy access to the MRT. There is also a bus station right after you exit to the main road. This bus station you can take a bus straight to Incheon International Airport.
There sld be two separate room, but the door between two room was broken, it make us very inconvenient. Between the toilet is terrible even no wash basin, the toilet door is sooooo difficult to open and close.
