Recommended - lovely hotel!
Great hotel - palatial in its appearance, friendly staff - great food. Only complaint was bar closed early and room service was limited to Pringle’s. Easily accessible for Taxis and lovely garden and pool area.

Great stay in the Nevernight City (Shanghai)
The hotel was one of several recommended by a company that I am doing business with in China. I chose this hotel because of it's proximity to the New Shanghai Convention Center. I loved the East meets West breakfast buffet with numerous and overall healthy and delicious options. I might go back just for the buffet! There is a Metro stop that is approximately a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The Metro in Shanghai must be the cleanest subway in any city I have traveled. The neighborhood is a more affluent area of the city and quiet. The hotel has plenty of amenities such as tennis, pool, a spa and two restaurants. Lobby and rooms were beautiful. Just a side note: If you don't speak Chinese, you will need to use google translate at most hotels in China and the same is true for Chateau Star River in Pudong. There are two locations of the Chateau Star River. Be careful to book the correct one.

The Free WIFI is not working, the air condition is weak, the room never gets cool since outside is very HOT during the time when i stayed. I stayed in room 1209, the cold water is running slow and hot water pressure is bigger. Hard to adjust the water temperature when taking shower. The room itself is pretty big, and it comes with free breakfast daily.

Was there for a trade show at the Expo Center. Great hotel. Rooms large and Modern and Clean. However staff speaks very little English. Only issue is getting a Taxi out of the hotel. Staff needs to call for one. Expect a 10 - 15 minute wait.

Pudong Luxury at a modest price
This hotel is part of a complex that also provides luxury apartments, and includes a small shopping complex across the street. This is definitely a 5-star facility, with luxurious wedding services on weekends. Although not really focused ti a business traveler, the internet is sufficient and the location is quiet (except for weddings on the pool side of the hotel). The staff is polite and competent, with several fluent in English. The buffet breakfast is relatively amazing in its depth of available styles and dishes, so Asians, Europeans and Americans can find something they are familiar with. They also have a very extensive workout center available to hotel guests, however, the outdoor swimming pool is for wedding services only. I would definitely return for either business or pleasure.

Basically, I used the hotel as a place to crash before travelling to Wuxi after a grueling 14 hour flight. It was comfy and luxurious, with a separate "living" area with a good city view.

Excellent hotel position
Hotel is well positioned for access to tube station, close to exhibition centre which was the purpose of our visit to China and in a quiet location. The hotel facilities are out standing and luxury throughout. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

A little far from 'happening' places, but as far as hotel decor & facilities, was palatial, only thing missing was the red carpet. From an interior design perspective – quite stunning. Cleanliness10 out of 10. Food was good but did not live up to the interior design status. Overall, felt like I was living in the lap of luxury and I suppose a hotel that really could take a stake as a Shanghai 'showcase'. Happy for the experience gave me insights into the new China. I was surprised, felt like the former Chinese grandeur and empires were striking back.

Isolated
Locals will consider this grand luxury but it feels old to a visitor. As a visitor, you are isolated. You are not in Shanghai city surroundings. No surrounding activity. Twenty minutes wait for taxis to the Expo centres. The indoor 35x18mtr (x1.8mtr deep throughout) pool was excellent, along with the snooker rooms.

Do not stay at this hotel!!!!
The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. My room was right in front of a construction site which woke me up very early in the morning. I asked the hotel staff to change my room to the other side of the hotel but the general manager of the hotel refused. The duty manager was nice but her boss refused to move me unless I pay extra!!! The hotel was empty!!! It will have cost them nothing to move me to a room where I would not be woken up by the construction!!! No customer service or appreciation!!!

A great and warm hotel
This is a wonderful place close to the center of the city. The hotel is really well maintained and has very friendly staff. Every evening, the hotel staff delivers to each room a small box containing a piece of heart-shaped white chocolate along with a personalized greeting card Compared to several similar-level hotels that I stayed during a recent trip in China, this hotel is the best. I would expect that it would be even nicer at a warmer date when I could try the outdoor swimming pool surrounded with various trees. I highly recommend it others.

Very meticulous staff. Although many cannot speak english, they were very quick to get someone who could. Very impressed with the cleanliness and detail. Breakfast is a bit expensive and could be included in the room rate. Close to the Expo centre however you need to take a taxi to get to key sites downtown. Otherwise, great place.

Great pools, restaurants, attentive staff, speak English very well, etc.. Extras cost extra though, I chose the package without breakfast. When eating breakfast it cost $30 per person. I needed to print some boarding passes, which could only be done by their staff, cost $10 for 6 pages.

Hotel is magnificent, with very well appointed rooms and impressive features. However if you don't speak Chinese you will have a very frustrating time. Room Service was impossible as no one spoke any English, Front Desk discussions very frustrating and without the 2 poor Guest Relations staff who DO speak English it would be a nightmare.

Chateau Star River Hotel in Shanghai
the hotel is gorgeous and new which i loved. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, especially helpful was Adrian Benavides the Guest Relation Officer. He was great in helping with directions and information, etc. He really made the stay special. I really loved the hotel, but was not crazy about the location as it seems far from everything. There seems to be nothing to do immediately in the vincinity of the hotel and cabs are difficult. Even with the Chinese address of the hotel, they are not familiar with it's location and cab rides from the airport and from Yuyuan Gardens became tiresome. Every cab i was in had to call someone to try to find their way, which was completely annoying. Anyway, i am returning to this hotel in a few days for another stay and know that i will enjoy the hotel, not so much the location.

The hotel room carpet was badly stained and had a piece of broken glass on the floor. Meals were outrageously expensive for what you got and pretty much hostage since the hotel was so isolated from anything else and a taxi cost $10 to get anywhere. Lastly, we were "accused" of taking a laundry bag (which we didn't take) then the front desk said "forget about it" so I'm not sure what that ruse was all about. I was grossly insulted of being accused (wrongly so) of theft, particularly since I am a devoted Christian and being accused of theft is against one of the fundamentals of christianilty, "Thou shalt not steal". I am really offended and will not recommend this hotel to anyone else ever.
