The location was near a lot of food places and the Yu Garden and Market. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was pretty standard in size but enough. Hotel is nicely decorated.

Checked in and walked right out.
I booked this hotel because the previous portion of my vacation was at an Ibis hotel in Tokyo, which exceeded expectations. This hotel was affordable and close to many of the places I wanted to visit. Upon checking in, i noticed that the hotel looked unkept. Although the property is "nonsmoking", the smell of cigarette smoke permeated the entire building. On the way to our room, we noticed a cockroach in the hallway. (This should've been the last straw, honestly). Upon entering the room, we noticed that it smelled strongly of cleaning liquid, and the bed had a large yellow stain on the covers. We immediately logged onto hotels.com and found a nearby hotel to stay at. We headed to the front desk where the attendant advised me that we could check out but would still be charged the one night's stay plus tax. I asked if there was a way to waive this, since we were leaving for sanitary reasons. Although we were offered the option to change rooms, we declined as the smell of smoke and bugs was present outside our room as well. We left the hotel at 2:30 AM and found a nearby hotel for twice the price but had an excellent experience. Hotels.com has tried reaching out to the hotel for a full refund, and received no reply. I've also reached out to headquarters and received no response. I get that the hotel is cheap, but no matter how cheap a hotel is, it should always meet basic cleanliness requirements: affordability should never equate to unsanitary conditions.

Great location at a great price! They were super accommodating since we weren't spending the night, just a few hours of sleeping during our 16 hrs layover. We checked in at 8 AM and checked out at 5PM.

Room is on the small size. Bathroom needs a major uplift. I had plumbing issue which was unresolved. Staff is accommodating and helpful in spite of language barrier. Location is great

- Very helpful staff!! - Great location - The TV was hard to work with as the remote was in Chinese, but I guess one doesn’t go to Shanghai to watch tv in the hotel bedroom so..it was really not important. - The mattress could be more comfortable

Quick solution to problem
They were building outside the hotel all night long. First night I was very tired, but the second night I couldn't sleep. at 0300 I went to reception and ask for another room. Within 20 minutes I was in another room at the other side of the hotel, fast asleep. Quick solution for a problem that was not their fault.

Not happy good location
After a trip inland I decided to stay in Shanghai to be close to airport for return home. I thought Ibis would be a standard place. Cons 1-An absolutly horrible raw sewage smell came from the floor that I was staying in. (Solution according to front desk turn up the AC and open your window. 2- due to construction on 4th floor, another solvent smell was very irritating. 3- TV did not work properly on the day of my checkout. Pros: 1-standrd Western room. 2-one minute walk to Yun garden and the old town shopping center.

I like the room design but I would have appreciated a little more communication on the type of room on Expedia and during checking. My room had no window which was extremely depressing especially when it rained for 5 days straight. Last thing I want to do on vacation is be depressed. I would have a appreciated trying to be up sold to a better room /option because I would have just payed for a different room if I got a window. Also during my staff shower and sink in bathroom was never clean and shower and toilet would flood a lot. (rm628). Also I highly recommend some kind of fridge and a safe In the rooms or at least the option the request one. During my stay wifi only worked for 2 days and was basically useless. When wifi did work it was speedy though which was great. There where other issue but these where the only ones that bothered me. Oh wait I almost forgot to add as well that management needs t be more strict with smoking policy as I came across the cleaning staff smoking in the building on 2 different floors which is very concerning and annoying. The free waters and tea are a plus but the best part is the location. All the cab drivers know it so no need to show address most the time and it's a few feet away from all the shopping and food in yuan garden with a family mart and a great fruit tea shop and banks on the same strip as the hotel. Since there are so many other options around I would recommend skipping breakfast at hotel even if it's free, it's meh!

Decent location for the Yu Garden, still quite far from a metro station. Almost nothing in the immediate area for eating, and the majority of buildings are boarded up, seemingly to be demolished

Hotel has a great location, close to restaurants, tourist attractions and the MRT. The room was very up-to-date and pleasing. The only negative was there was only one of two elevators working during the 3 nights we stayed there. As we were on the top floor it meant there was a lot of waiting.

Good location; just round the corner from Yu Gardens and a 10 min walk to either the nearest metro station or the Bund riverside walkway. Unfortunately there is construction underway a hundred metres from the hotel - and while they work during the day only, there is not chance for a lie-in or early night. It also didn't help that the window in our room didn't have a proper seal so we could hear clearly hear the noises from the street and construction site.

Room is too small. Not really enough place to put and open luggage, no hangers to hang clothes, no safe to keep valuable things such as passport, wallet,etc, keep receiving cards that promote prostitution under the door.However the location of this hotel is excellent. It is within walking distance to subway station and very close to the magnificent Yuyuan Garden and walking street.

Good location no frills chain!
Currently under renovation. Stayed at the newly renovated part. Sadly, I got one of the inner corner rooms that was windowless. Room was big and I liked the touch of the daybed chair to relax. Good location by Yu yuan, but the metro station is too far!

Room is extremely small for the price and it was an internal room with no natural light. The window opened up to another corridor with very little privacy. The breakfast was also expensive with very little to offer. Not worth it. Only redeeming quality of this hotel is the location to Yu Garden, which is only 5min walk and a friendly concierge.

Location is good. Very far from Pudong airport. Nearby shops Banks are near. Wi fi speed is very poor. Comparing my stay at Ibis at Seoul I am disappointed with the room condition. Buffet breakfast is not standard.

Do download taxi booking app, as hailing cab from streets is almost impossible these days, or be prepared to walk about 15 mins to nearest MRT station. Otherwise walking distance to the Bund.

Good value for Money
The staff are very helpful and have excellent knowledge of the location and all available services. Their English is also very good. The place is good value for money, close to the subway line 10 and there are plenty of western and Chinese eateries just behind the hotel. There is a also a large jewelry and accessory market behind the hotel.

Convenient and clean hotel
Location is good as it is very near Yu Garden. 10 mins walk to the nearest metro. My room is located at 6th floor but without window panels. Toilet door is spoiled and cannot be locked. Hotel reception is quick for check in and check out.

Great location!
Mixed reviews. The location was superb and in walking distance of many great sights as well as a stop for the sightseeing bus so you need to keep this in the back of your mind when reviewing. The room was a little 'tired' though and had no window, which I knew about before, but didn't realise what it would be like ~ losing a sense of time each day, no real ventilation which made the room smell a little. All the gentleman on reception were friendly and helpful and most of the women, but there were a couple who were not very welcoming but it didn't spoil my stay. Breakfast was very good and weather permitting, you can eat it outside on the rooftop and admire the view. I was very surprised to receive cards under my door from the local 'ladies of the night' and wondered how they managed to get in as the lift needed a room key to go up, so I assume that they were fit and used the stairs!! All in all, the good outweighs the bad though and as long as your actual holiday isn't affected, it's a good place to stay and I would book there again but choose a room with a window. It goes without saying that the beds are really hard but isn't that the norm for China? Breakfast is on 5th floor, so if you want to avoid early morning noise from 'dawn diners', choose a different floor.

The hotel is an ash tray
Third hand smoke. Asmtha and allergy sufferers beware! In the halls there are ash trays for people to smoke freely. Inside the rooms they just ask you not to smoke on the beds. I couldn't breathe well and they offered me a air purifier that only helped some when on full blast, which is so loud it's impossible to sleep through. In the morning I walked into the bathroom only to be hit by a cloud of smoke that came through the ventilation. I complained again to front desk so they offered to move me to two different rooms. One which was the same and the other had a haze of smoke in it. Needless to say we found a new hotel and checked out, ate the cost because we prepaid.

Very close to yu garden but the room was very smal
Small room with no windows or sunlight coming in.hotel staff do not understand or speak English Very uncooperative.
