It was a short trip to Shanghai and I only need 2 nights for accommodation. This hostel just fits what I need. Good place for taking a rest at night and go on for your journey in the next morning!

Pros: Central location, close to transport and shops. Good and inexpensive food places nearby. Value for money.
Cons: Could do with a new lick of paint and a bit updating.
Location: The location is very central with great access to train lines, shopping malls and some interesting little boutiques and restaurants.
We spent 2 nights last week at this hostel which is very centrally located and only a short walk from Jing'an Temple metro station. Make sure you use the map provided on their website - google maps is inaccurate and if you don't have an internet connection can be difficult to find. However with the help of a very friendly local teacher we met in the street this was quickly resolved.

OK experience IF you stay AWAY from the stairs

Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Some English spoken.
Cons: Hard beds, noisy, cement stairwell and hallways.
Location: Hard to find, about 5 blocks from the subway. But, ask someone to help. . .they always will if they can.
This hostel is very clean and in decent repair. The halls and stairway are polished cement. The rooms are hardwood, not carpeted. The staff is prompt, courteous, and helpful. We stayed in: 3rd floor Corner, Queen room – 1 night, quiet Family room – 1 night, by stairwell. We were kept awake by noisy traffic all night, and people talking. We asked to be moved, and were accommodated. 2nd floor Queen room – 3 more nights, away from stairwell. Much quieter. The beds are hard, so we folded an extra comforter from the bottom of the bed to the top, and we laid on top of it. They also gave us 2 extra pillows, which helped a lot. Wear your slippers or sandals ALWAYS! My husband came home from China with athlete's foot in his toes. He could have picked it up in the Hanzhou hostel, but beware. I would stay in this hostel again, if I wanted to save money. It was not as comfortable as a hotel, but with the warnings and modifications we mentioned, it is fine.

Pros: Good location
Cons: Staff mistakes and attitude
We booked and paid for a family room well in advance but when we arrived it was not available. For the first 2 nights we were given 2 rooms at no extra cost; after that we had to pay extra, but it was not clear what we needed to pay as we had paid originally in AUD$. They underquoted the extra yuan; we paid; then they wanted more. Their mistakes all round, but we were left holding the bill. Not happy. In addition, some staff disinterested (at best!) and room slightly grimy. But OK

I would heartily recommend this hostel. The location is extremely convenient, being easy walking distance from the City Airport Bus Terminal and also the underground. The staff speak good English. They were extremely helpful and flexible when we had to make some booking changes. The rooms were simple but clean. The showers were excellent, with good pressure and constant hot water. The breakfast is not inspired, but it's nice to have it on the roof terrace.
