Schönes Hotel in südlicher StadtlagePosted Sep 24, 2015

Posted Sep 3, 2015

Enttäuschend!Posted Aug 10, 2015 on Hotels

Beautiful hotel off the beaten pathPosted Aug 3, 2015 on Hotels
This is a beautiful hotel a little too far from the metro and the center of the city for my liking. That said, the staff were friendly enough although as is the case in the rest of the city and China in general the English is weak. That's not a complaint - this is their country after all and their english is a lot better than my Chinese (which is non-existent). The hotel itself is beautifully maintained. It's non-smoking and they have you sign an agreement that if you violate this policy, you will be required to pay a fine, which is fair enough. The hallways are beautifully lit and the room and the bed were reasonably comfortable. The breakfast was sensational! Everything from dumplings to waffles, fried rice to fried eggs prepared on the spot and pretty much anything else you could wish for. If only it weren't so far off the beaten path...

Rude staffPosted Jul 24, 2015 on Hotels
The staff is rude, disrespectful and insulting. There is no customer service whatsoever. We had a very unpleasant stay and I do NOT recommend this hotel. It is far from the main attractions of the city and just not worth your money. Find a place where people respect their customers and treat them properly.

Pleasant placePosted Jul 16, 2015
Pros: Generally quiet, free laundry, occasional peacock sightings.
Cons: Housekeeping could talk to each other a little less loudly. The breakfasts are not enjoyable for those who like Western breakfasts.
Location: About 12 minutes walk from South Railway Station. Not much entertainment nearby. Walmart and Carrefour close, many small markets, and good noodles.
I stayed for 2 weeks. I actually stayed in 3 different rooms, so have a sense of the overall quality. In general, all the rooms were fairly quiet, except that the housekeeping staff spoke really loudly to each other, which always annoyed me. Rooms are standard: bottled water, towels, and tea. Television had a few foreign channels like HBO and Japanese stations, but the picture quality not too good. Air conditioning varied. In one room it worked great, in another it could not get the temperature lower than 28 degrees Celsius. Staff was generally helpful, and housekeeping was friendly, but the cafeteria staff was a little crude and demanding, as if they always wanted you to leave. Speaking of the cafeteria, the breakfast is not worth it. I tend not to like Chinese breakfasts like congee and rice rolls, but it is probably better than the Western items. They do have eggs and a toaster, but the French toast was basically youtiao with a different bread, and the bacon was unidentifiable. I bought a French press at IKEA and made my own coffee. The food in the neighborhood is not bad, with many Sichuan, Hunan, and Pulled Noodle places. Both Carrefour and Walmart are not too far. Otherwise, there is not much to see or do in the area. The gym worked for me. All I want is carpeting, space, and air conditioning and it had all three. Otherwise, they had a couple treadmills and a bicycle and weights. Watch out for mosquitoes though. Overall, this was a decent value.

Pretty nice hotel for a decent price. Rooms are nice and clean with basic amenities found in most hotels. This hotel has a unique garden with some cool animals. The only thing that some people might find troublesome is their location. L'otel is a 10 minute walk away from Shanghai South Railway Station and not near most of the tourist areas, but the subway should make getting around pretty convenient.
