Nice conveniently located hotel

Pros: Good location (close to Nanjing East Road and People's Square), rooms are very clean and modern, excellent shower.
Cons: Check-in experience (as written).
Location: Good location. Lots of shopping and food options nearby. Costa and McDonald's and a small minimart right downstairs if anything required.
Generally a very nice conveniently located hotel. Clean and modern rooms. However experience a bit marred by check-in, where I was told that I could only get a room with a king-sized bed. I had put in a request when booking via Expedia for two double beds (as there are 3 of us). The staff at check in first said that the hotel had never received any such request, and then afterwards said that even if had been requested it is not guaranteed. They did eventually assign a room with two double beds. They then asked for a 500 RMB per night guarantee or a credit card guarantee, which I didn't mind, but think should have been stated more clearly when booking the hotel.

Great hotel near People's Park

Pros: Room, bed, desk, bathroom, air-conditioning, gym, restaurants.
Cons: The wait for an elevator could be lengthy at busy times.
Location: Good location near People's Park/People's Square, and maybe a 20-30 minute walk to the Bund.
Very nice room, and the three restaurants were all excellent. Booking through Expedia, I paid roughly $175 USD/night (with taxes and fees) which was a good value for this level of hotel. A minor nitpick has to do with the coffee supplies. Sometimes I got two decafs, sometimes two regular coffees, once one of the coffee packets was open (but not used), and the coffee packets were for a coffee brewer but the room was equipped with a French press. It worked fine if I opened the packet and poured the loose grounds in the French press, but it seemed funny. Maybe it explains why the previous guest opened the outer wrapper of one of the coffees...

Good location and nice room

Stayed here for 2 nights for a weekend trip to Shanghai. Hotel is located in a very good area, 5mins to People's Square station on Line 2, which is accessible from either Pudong or Hongqiao airport. It is also close to a lot of restaurants and the famous shopping street. Room is clean and bed is comfortable. One point for improvement - the queue for check out was very long with only 1 counter servicing the guests. Suggest to have a separate queue for express check out. Overall it was an enjoyable stay and would recommend the hotel to friends.

Beautiful hotel, close to People Square and shops

Cons: Coffee maker is expresso type.Not good One coffee ls left per day. We were 3 people in a suite. Cant make any tea , Its not offered.
Location: Location is perfect. Mc Donald's is next door as well as Costa Coffee. Metro is 5 min away Shopping and restaurants are 5 min away. Perfect!
Very nice hotel, close to everything-metro, shopping etc

Modern hotel close to museums and shopping

Pros: Modern, comfortable and well located for sightseeing.
Family suite was ideal for us with great master suite plus a half bath and living room area. Staff brought in a single bed for our daughter. Deluxe Western and Asian breakfast offered every morning. Nice bar in the lobby with lots of comfortable seating. Metro station at People's Park a block away, as is Nanjing Rd. shopping and the Shanghai Museum. Would definitely stay here again.

Not so clean. Puddle in room, hairs under sheets

Expected the hotel to be cleaner but found a strange puddle in the carpet which house keeping just threw a towel over. Stray hairs under the sheets and the lobby was under construction so we had to go through the cafe entrance. Expected more from a so called five star hotel.

Mediocre hotel, good location. Wouldn't stay again

Cons: Get more elevators!
I was expecting to like this hotel based on the reviews and the pictures I saw, but was pretty disappointed with it and wouldn't stay there again. The lobby is nice enough, but that's about it. We booked an executive suite to get more room and access to the executive club lounge, which was really not worth it. The executive lounge is one of the worst I've seen at any Marriot. It's run down and in need of a serious make-over. The food and beverage offerings are also limited and poor. The worst thing about the hotel is that the elevators take FOREVER. Even more annoying is if you have a room on floors 4-22 you have to switch elevators in order to access the executive club lounge, which is on the 37th floor. So, you wait forever to get an elevator on floor 22 to go down to the lobby and then have to switch to a separate elevator bank and wait forever again to get onto another set of elevators to get to the lounge. So inconvenient and inefficient. Whoever planned out this hotel did a poor job. When you're paying extra for a room in order to get access to the club lounge it's inconsiderate to make those patrons go through the time and hassle of waiting for 2 different sets of very slow elevators. As for the breakfast buffet -- while the selection is rather extensive with many cuisines represented, the food quality itself is low and just doesn't taste good. Even though breakfast was included with our room we ended up skipping it 2 out of the 4 days we were there.
